CHAPTER ELEVEN

When he got back up, his face was different, he was smiling now. Then he beckoned me over.
“What are you waiting for? Come on! It's warm” he beckoned and against my better judgment, I took off my shorts, left in my underwear and I walked slowly into the water.

He's right, the water is warm and so nice. I didn't care what happened to my hair, I just knew I had to dive in.

When I came up for hair, I was stunned to find him staring right at me like I was his addiction.

“Is there something on my face?”

“How can one not fall for you at first sight, Tessa? You are breathtaking. And that's my cue to leave or I'll fucking lose control. You don't want to see that part of me,” he rasped, his voice turning me to mush.

I know I'm not supposed to have anything to do with an alien, in fact I have a pact with Roe never to fall for them but right now, my senses were probably still upstairs on that bed with the Prince.
So I touched his arm to stop him from leaving. I was drinking in his presence like a fish out of water and the idea of letting him go hurt a part of me.

“Wait, don't go. Um, I never got your name. Also, you kept mentioning travels in conversation and I know I might never be able to go anywhere else apart from New York so can you tell me about the places you've seen?” I rattled out like a crazy, needy woman.

“Fuck. Sure, I'll tell you. Come, I still have somewhere to show you. It's my favorite part of this place. And the name's Corbin, I'm delighted you don't know my reputation,”
I quickly pulled myself out of the pool and wore my clothes. They got wet immediately but I didn't care. Surprisingly enough, I didn't feel shy around him. Since I met him, he's been like the bane of my existence in this new world, always coming through for me in one way or another so the thought of people having bad opinions about him made me feel confused.

“What do they say about you?” I asked, intrigued as well. What if he was a player? It wouldn't matter, he wasn't mine to obsess over.

“Don’t worry about that. You'll find out soon enough. The pool reminded me of my time in a place called Santorini. It's in Greece and it's got very clear waters and an amazing ambience. Same thing in Bora Bora and the Maldives. But those places are only accessible to Superiors now so you'll have to convince my cousin to take you. You'll love it.”

“Wow. Your life is so perfect. I wish I could travel around the world like that. It's my biggest fantasy, you know? To make so much money, retire my Momma and then take trips around the world with my best friend. But I guess all that is wishful thinking.” I said sadly as I kicked pebbles on our way to where he was taking me.

“You know, it doesn't all have to be so gloomy you know. There's an ancient saying I read about that says when life gives you lemons, you make lemonade with it, so do that. Turn this whole situation into a happy ending. You have yourself a prince now, I don't think it can get any better than that.”

“Oh please! You're sounding like these over inflated egomaniacs from another planet who took over earth and destroyed our way of life. Oh wait, that's actually who you are so why would you think anything other than that?” I snapped in annoyance.

“I'm really sorry, Tessy. I'm just trying to help. I don't want you being miserable for the rest of your life.”

“So you don't think there's any way out of this?” I asked, looking up at his perfect face.

“Right now? Not really. He's the Prince. At this point, he has more power than the King, they don't just know it yet so what's anyone going to do? If you successfully run away, what part of the earth could you run to in order to hide from him?” He replied, making me sniffle a stray tear. I won't break down in front of him, I must remain strong, I thought as we got to a bend that led to the most beautiful sight I've ever laid my eyes on. It is not just a garden but something more.

“We're here, it's beautiful right?” he asked, bringing me to a literal heaven on earth.

“It's breathtaking,” I whispered, running into the garden and taking in all the beautiful sights.

I may have mentioned it earlier but I will reiterate that these aliens had an eye for perfection.

I've seen gardens before but this was probably where the first man fell in love with Eve. The night light gave it such a beautiful look and I walked around in awe.

I walked closer to the pond and there were fishes in it. Fishes!
I've never seen a live one before. These had light flickering off their bodies as they swam excitedly. Must be nice living in such freedom even though they were a little bit restricted.

“I miss that excitement you are experiencing right now, you know. Being a royal gets tiring quite fast,”

“Yeah, well I'm honestly not interested in it. I wish he'll just take the one year everyone gets and let me go back but he's talking about forever. I don't want that. I miss my Momma and my little sister. I don't even know if Roe is fine. My life is literally crumbling before my eyes and he doesn't even care yet he wants to marry me. How does that make sense?” I cried out, breaking down in front of Corbin who quickly brought out a napkin and cleaned up my tears.

Then he hugged me. Tightly. Instantly, I felt so many things at the same time, prominent amongst them, peace.
I couldn't lie even if I wanted to but I felt electrical shocks from his touch. My fears and sadness disappeared while I was in his embrace.

“You'll figure a way out, I promise.”

“Let go of my wife, Cousin.” I heard the unmistakable voice of the Prince and I began to pray to whichever god or gods that still existed to please open the grounds and swallow me.
