CHAPTER HUNDRED AND FORTY-EIGHT
“Do you want to have your bath before or after?” Xavier asked me as the guards helped Doctor Memphis fix up the machine.
“Um, no. I'm too anxious anyways.”
He nodded and we watched as they finally fixed up everything.
“So although this is quite primitive, it's the only thing we can trust, considering your condition. We don't want to introduce anything radioactive in your body,” the doctor explained as he brought out a tube. “This might be a bit cold,” he explained as he poured a sizable amount of it on my stomach.
“Ouch, that's cold!” I exclaimed as he spread the glob all over my tummy.
“Sorry,” he said with a tense smile. “Look, see him right… there!” he declared excitedly just as Roe and Lisbeth walked back in with the baby.
“Damn, he's really blue,” I chuckled, not paying attention to the doctor.
“A true Zorvath boy,” Xavier replied to me, beaming with pride.
Did they bond already?
My attention was immediately captivated by the heartbeat of my child.
“Ohh,” I gushed, looking at this being that was growing rapidly in my stomach.
“How old is he now?”
“Three months. He's growing rather rapidly so although he should be two months old in age, he's actually three by the developments I'm seeing right now,” he explained.
“That's oddly confusing. Is he two or three months old?” I demanded, irritated.
“Well, at each month, there are indications based on what part of them has developed,” he began to explain, pointing out the baby's features. “His nose, legs and stomach form between a month and two months but his head, lungs and ears are supposed to form properly at three months and you can see that his head has formed.”
“Does this have anything to do with what happened?” Xavier asked, and I could see that the thought of what Fanny had done brought him much pain.
“I think so, I checked her properly before we started flying and the growth rate was normal.”
“So this is extremely abnormal?” Roe asked in concern.
“Yes but I can't figure out if it's in a good or bad way yet but at this rate, she'd be giving birth in about a month’s time. Normally, that would be great but Ky’rhan pregnancies require for the human mothers to be emotionally adapted to the event. Without that, I fear she might have problems with her maternal instincts,” he explained and stepped back from the monitor.
I already loved this child even before they were born so I doubt anything would make me not be able to bond with them when they're born.
I guess his knowledge of this was out of the situation of humans being used as surrogates and not something like our situation where there's actually love and the desire to love our child.
Xavier went closer to the monitor, looking at everything with a pensive look.
“What's that?” He asked, pointing at a spot on my baby's head while stepping aside for the doctor to see what he was talking about.
“Wait, that's odd,” Doctor Memphis observed, making my heart rate spike. “Calm down please your highness, we need you as calm as possible to be able to observe this.”
Xavier rushed over to me and sat down next me, holding my hand and giving it soothing rubs.
Gradually, my mind eased up a little bit. Nothing is wrong with my child, he's the child of the most powerful Zorvathian. Nothing will happen to him.
I kept chanting those words to myself as the doctor brought more equipment to magnify the image and study it.
Before I could say jack, three more doctors and a female specialist ky'rhan poured into the room and I couldn't keep my heart rate down, no matter how much I tried.
“Can somebody tell me what's going on ?!” I yelled into the crowded room with frustration and pent up anger, making the lights flicker constantly.
Xavier gathered me in his arms and rubbed off the mucus on my stomach and held me to himself.
“Mia Cara, please calm down. They're trying to figure it out, okay? Our son will be fine, trust me,” he whispered to my ear, trying to settle my turbulent thoughts.
I nodded and stayed in his arms as he carried me like a baby.
I was close to tears but as he started rocking me back and forth, my emotions stabilized a little bit.
The lights came back on and they continued their conversations; none of which I understood a single word even though they spoke the general tongue.
“Can you guys come this way? Give her room to breathe, the suite is big enough,” Memphis said, calling his colleagues who had crowded us near the bed.
They moved away and I was able to breathe again.
Then Roe's baby began to cry and she tried shushing him but it wasn't working.
“Sorry, I'll take him inside,” she said, excusing herself.
“Wait, bring him here,” I called, shifting from Xavier’s lap so I could carry him
When the cute boy was placed in my arms, his little flickering back and forth, I felt a wave of peace settle in my heart.
I've always loved children so the thought that I won't love mine till the end of the universe was unacceptable.
Whatever was wrong, will be rectified. I had to believe that or I'd go crazy.
I began rocking him and he stopped crying.
“What's his name?” I asked her and she smiled before responding.
“Brennan.”
I teared up.
“You didn't have to,” I croaked.
“I totally did. He was my big brother too and he was the most amazing one,” Rose replied, making my heart shake with memories.
My attention was drawn away from the boy when the lady stepped away from the rest of the whispering men on the other side of the room and walked towards us.
The lights flickered again from how tense I was.
“Damn it!” I spluttered, breathing in and out of my mouth to regulate my emotions.
“I think I have figured it out but we're still going to consult a couple of tests to get a conclusive result.”
“Well, what are you waiting for? Spit it out!” Xavier barked at her and I saw her flinch in fear.
“Honey, please calm down. Don't kill the messenger, okay?” I said to him, holding the baby in one hand and touching him with the other.
“I'm sorry Your Majesty. It's just that, our future prince is going to be very powerful but all that might be too much for him. Mentally.”
