CHAPTER TWO HUNDRED AND FOURTEEN

I spent the rest of the evening with my son, my friends, and my people.

Xavier had come to see us but I told him to leave so people wouldn't notice the frigid air between us.

But after he left, it was a happy air. From joyous conversations about the change in status quo to a welcoming party that I hadn't expected.

It all happened so fast. Music, dancing, and food flowed out immediately.

I hadn't had alcohol in a while, but I wanted to see it flow from bottle to cup among the people. But I was breastfeeding and I definitely couldn't do that.

Meanwhile, Xander had grown very much since I'd last seen him.

From that little blue boy with a frail tail, he looked bigger now, with bubbly cheeks and a strong smile.

He hadn't cried a bit since I held him, well, with all the breastfeeding I was doing, there was no dissatisfaction.

My friends were happy too and I played with my godson as well.

I hadn't been that happy in a long while and I was grateful for the opportunity to be with them again.

I don't even know how I'd survived without him all these weeks.

I was with them till midnight when Xavier came through the throng of people to where we sat, laughing about memories from Earth.

I knew he was coming, not just because our connection sparked inside me but the hush enveloping the crowd.

He walked straight to where I sat, and I could tell he felt awkward around them.

“Hey, don't you want to come to bed?” He asked in a tone so different from the one he'd used earlier today to call me a cheating, two-faced spy.

Not exactly in those same words but it's literally the same thing.

“Hold him,” I said, handing over Xander to him as I greeted everyone else goodbye and carried his bags.

I followed him out of the large crowd before he held my hand and teleported us to our room.

“I'll be in my room with the baby,” I said coldly, going to collect Xander from him.

“Come on baby, we don't have to keep this frigid air between us. It was a misunderstanding and you shouldn't kick me to the curb at the slightest inconvenience,” he replied, holding on to the baby.

“Oh well, you can feed him when he wakes up in the night, I've pumped some milk for him already,” I replied, ignoring everything he was saying.

I didn't want us to argue in front of our son.

Before he could say anything, I teleported to my room and went to shower. I got out and prepared for bed.

I thought about how Lyra-en handled this position she was given.

She could have been an asset to Xavier when we got to Zorvath, and she'd probably get a bigger amount of land to rule over when we got there, but instead, she threw all of it away.

All for what?

Did she believe Xavier was weak because of love? I found it hard to believe she hated me that much.

But she was the least of my worries.

After rolling on the bed over and over, I finally got into a fitful sleep.

***

The next day, I woke up to breakfast in bed by a guilty Xavier.

At least, that was what he looked like bearing a tray and having that weird expression on his face.

“Hi,” he greeted as he dropped the tray near me, and I rubbed my eyes open.

“Good morning,” I answered groggily.

“I remembered you'd not eaten anything properly since that horrid experience so I brought you something,” he said to me.

I sighed and got up from the bed, ignoring him because I couldn't process anything yet.

I washed my face and mouth before joining him on the bed

“Thank you,” I said and took the cup of coffee in the tray.

“I already took care of Xander, your friends came to get him,” he said as I continued eating. It was like everything was normal and there was no chasm between us.

“Okay.”

I started eating, ignoring him completely.

“There's going to be a public sentencing later in the day,” he told me, making me lift my head up. Xavier didn't do that show of strength thing so it was strange.

“Of who?”

“Lyra-en. I got terrible reports of which I'm sure the humans have briefed you on. But also, she tried overturning my rule and convinced the former council to form again to stand against me upon my return. Only a handful followed her foolishness and they will all be sentenced with her. I would like you to be there. With me.”

“She hurt my people so I will come,” I answered as I ate the last slice of toast and carried the tray, and began to head out.

“Baby?” He called, I wanted to ignore him but I turned to see him. He has trimmed his face back to its former beardless state and he looked all blue and handsome again. But his words still rang in my head and I frowned at my previous thoughts. “I'm really sorry for everything. I should have trusted you.”

“Yes, after everything you've put me through and all we've been through together, you should have.”

I walked away before he could reply and I took the plate to the kitchen for our wing.

A human collected it from me immediately and I gave them a big smile before walking into the pantry.

I met the head cook, a ky'rhan woman who was slender and tall, you'd think she was an Amazon.

“Tiara, how are you today?”

“Good morning your Majesty, I'm doing great,” she replied with a graceful smile.

“So I found out there was a change in feeding plans,” I asked as I looked around the place.

“Yes, Lyra-en convinced us it was what his Majesty would have wanted but now it makes way less sense than ever. He wouldn't want this segregation right after ending it.”

“You're a smart woman. I'll need a full list of things that changed and how you're undoing it. If you need my help, don't hesitate to ask,” I told her.

“Of course Your Majesty. And thank you for coming out of your shell,” she joked, we shared a laugh before I went out again.

She was right, I needed to come out more and take this position seriously.

I didn't have any excuses anymore; I needed to make sure everything was conducive both for ky'rhans and humans alike.

I took a tour of the entire ship, acting like my mom did whenever she wanted the house in order.

It was during my inspection of the ship that I noticed a strange odor coming from the air vents.

I called Zyx immediately to investigate.
