CHAPTER HUNDRED AND EIGHTY-FIVE

“Is there a problem?” The first commander asked, catching my shocked expression.

He'd literally just stated that their plans were to annihilate us on our way back. But I couldn't let him know I heard him or I'd be shot down immediately.

“I think my oxygen mask is nearly depleted,” I croaked, feigning a struggle to breathe.

But I needed to get out of here, not just because I needed us to have the upper hand again, but because I could feel Xavier losing weight. He won't be holding on much longer.

“Then get going! Anubis, go with her immediately!” He commanded and I sighed deeply and set off, the Drak guard in tow.

Immediately, the doors shut behind us, and we ran towards the engine room.

The entire ship had a weird vibe to it like something was in the air.

“Wait!” The Drak commanded as he paused to listen to the communication device on his shoulder.

Then I looked outside and noticed the men holding the machine guns were standing very erect, ready to fire.

It seems Xavier let go too early.

I felt it before it hit us, and I teleported to the engine room, not caring that there was a loose Drak in the ship.

The moment I appeared, the shots went off, blasting windows and breaking through the guards on the ship.

I couldn't put a guard across the entire ship; it was too big, and I had another thing to do, so I guess we'd have to lose a couple of people if they didn't lay low.

“Your Majesty! Over here!” I saw Zyx from the other side of the engine room, close to the gaping space for the heart and I rushed towards him, amidst screams of Drak soldiers pouring out of their ships. You'd think that ship wouldn't be able to contain many people, but I was seeing hundreds crawl out of one alone.

Immediately, I handed over the engine to Zyx; I began to fight.

I loaded the guns mentally while sending thunderbolts to kill anyone coming in our direction.

I felt the ship buzz back alive and I took a deep breath.

“Zyx, go get the soldiers to fight! What are you waiting for?” I yelled as I noticed him fighting beside me.

I'd expected him to be gone immediately he was done but he was here, probably on Xavier's order to protect me. This was the wrong time for his overprotectiveness.

“Um, ugh!” He grunted as he slit a Draks throat before unsheathing his gun. “They're not… available, Your Majesty,” he grunted, spreading my ward and stressing me out.

“What do you mean they're not available? Did you guys send them out? Is that why they didn't find anyone when they came here?” I asked, still wondering how those Draks didn't notice anything amiss.

“I'll explain later but for now, we must defend the command room!” He yelled as more and more soldiers kept pouring into the room.

Everywhere was littered with dead bodies and why wasn't Xavier back yet?

I was frustrated, unable to celebrate the win we'd just had or worry about my son.

I just had to keep fighting, a Drak replacing a dead one after each strike

The room was a cacophony of zits of electricity and gunshots, as well as physical destruction. Since their bullets weren't penetrating my wards, they were laying waste to the command room instead before we took them out.

Suddenly, my husband appeared, looking worse for wear.

“Oh Thank God! I was wondering what happened!” I yelled above the noise, but it seemed he didn't hear me because he stood there as they shot at him repeatedly, the bullets pouring out on the ground.

“Xavier!” I screamed, trying to get him back to reality

“My… ship..,” he drawled, his eyes zoning out for a bit while those b*stards shot bullet after bullet into his body.

“Zyx, you need to draw him close; I can't extend a ward that far,” I called to Zyx, who was firing a few feet away from me.

“What do I do?”

“Call him, scream or something, I don't know just get him closer, I'll watch your back!”

I kept shooting thunderbolts repeatedly and reloading the guns.

Seven ships had already been decimated but there were fifteen more still sending tons of these cockroaches into the ship.

Zyx began moving slowly towards a still debilitated Xavier while I anticipated and took out anyone aiming at him.

Which was almost everyone, actually, so that was a difficult task while I increased the ward towards him.

Thankfully, they weren't firing in my direction anymore, so I focused the strength on him rather than myself.

“Your Majesty, your ship is this way,” Zyx called to him and he looked up like a lost child.

Zyx stretched forth his hand, and Xavier grabbed it, probably thinking something was in it, but Zyx pulled him towards himself, and he finally entered the protective ward.

I gave up on fighting for the moment, hoping to get him back to his senses.

“Baby,” I called to him as I drew him closer.

He still looked disoriented but the longer he spent in my embrace, away from all the shooting and firing, the better he got.

Then, the part of him that I'd given away suddenly appeared in the room, and they all started shooting at it.

“You're wasting your time,” I growled to them as it floated over to Xavier.

Immediately, his eyes regained color and he hugged me back, a tear dropping on my back.

“Thank you, my queen,” he whispered in my ears amidst the chaos.

“Let's make sure they regret messing with us!” I whispered to him and he nodded as we parted.

But as I looked around, I realized something was wrong.

“Zyx!” I screamed, rushing to his figure bleeding out on the ground.

I must have let the ward slip for a moment while I was with Xavier.

“Take him to the infirmary, I've got this, okay?” He told me, putting a ward of his own to protect the heart of the ship.

With my new strength, I carried him from the ground and teleported him to the hospital where Memphis was mixing something.

“Memphis! Take care of him!” I exclaimed in panic.

Immediately, he grabbed Zyx from my hand and began strapping him up.

“You can go, you're only going to make me nervous with all that fear and panic,” he said, waving me away.

Tired, scared, and frustrated, I forgot I could teleport and instead began walking towards the command room again.

Everywhere else was calm and quiet and you wouldn't even believe it was the same shop that so much chaos was happening in.

I guess that gave me a false sense of safety because I didn't hear it until I felt the needle piercing through my skin.

“We see again, kitty,” I heard the unmistakable voice of that burly commander before the light faded from my eyes.
