CHAPTER FORTY-TWO
“Something is wrong,” I whispered as the men that had helped us get on the boat earlier were trying as much as possible to hold back a lot of Moderates who were trying to get to us. They locked the main entrance door and were trying to get them to back off but it seemed they were intent on breaking the door down.
I felt a shiver of fear and confusion and I wondered what was so bad that they had to take such extreme measures to pass their message.
“How did they know we were here? I made sure our location was discreet. Wait here, I'll go see what it's about. If I'm not back soon or you notice things get out of hand, paddle all the way to that end, there's another door there. Get in the car and call Corbin,” he instructed and I could see he was genuinely worried which was an unusual situation with Xavier. He always had that ‘i got the situation under control’ air around him but this time, I don't think he did.
He handed me the key and kissed my forehead before walking out of the water and straight to the angry mob while I watched in apprehension.
I could hear him ask what the problem was but as he got closer to the door, I could only deduce what was happening by their gesticulations and I doubt if I got a bit of the full picture but as they spoke to him and they were all screaming at him from the door, I noticed he got angrier each minute.
I guess he was trying to explain something to them but it wasn't working and then they began pushing at the door again, trying to break it down even though Xavier was there, trying to calm them down.
All of a sudden, the men separated and three of them brought with them a heavy metal box and began ramming it into the door.
My heart leaped into my throat and I was spellbound, watching the horrific scene.
What were they so angry about? Xavier didn't see the need of trying to talk to the angry mob again and took a few steps back while I watched in horror.
A tiny voice in my head noted that this was the perfect time to row my boat down the damn lake but I couldn't move an inch from where I stood in the water, the waves lapping at my skin.
I watched Xavier transform from his human form to the beast that sent warriors scampering.
The vision made the men pause for a second but then, the door finally fell and they rushed to jump him.
But he was ready for them.
I've never seen a real fight of this magnitude before and I watched with rapt attention as Xavier made grown men cry as they attacked him all at once.
He flung one guy so hard with his left arm that he cracked his skull on impact.
The match had seemed uneven at the beginning what with it being only him against a mob since the few men that were working there had taken a lot of quick steps out that place immediately the door cracked open but now it seemed they were the ones in danger as he kept stacking bodies upon bodies on the ground in anger.
For some crazy reason, watching him vanquish his enemies opened a faucet of horniness inside of me as I watched him intently.
In that moment, he paused from the men who were running back now and he was going after them and he looked in my direction.
Two things were happening; a man was running towards my direction and he looked into my eyes, and even though the distance between was quite far, I could still feel his stares from here.
“Run!” He commanded and my body quickly obeyed, and even though this was for my safety, I realized why I hated this power of his so much.
It was painful resisting the command in a mind-crippling way and I was paddling furiously away from the shore as the Moderate man ran after me with a mission in his eyes
“Hey! Stop there!” he screamed at me but even if I wanted to, I couldn't do it.
The sounds of battle lessened with each paddle from my now tired hands and as I got closer to the other side of the building that he'd instructed, I was faced with a dilemma
My hands were in pain and they kept rowing no matter how much I tried to stop it.
I knew the man didn't follow me all the way into the water but I saw something swimming to my direction
And lastly, the door that I was supposed to escape from was padlocked, leaving me in a state of confusion, frustration and extreme fear.
But I paddled faster, hoping that the land will provide respite against the danger in the water.
Suddenly, I felt a hand claw at the canoe, and I screamed.
The shore was near but not near enough and I tried paddling faster to where I could get down without having to swim but the person that was trying to topple me in the water was persistent.
The arm dragged the canoe hard again and I lifted the paddle as high as possible and I hit their head, making them recede into the water.
But the paddle had broken on impact so I did the only logical thing.
I picked up the car key, hoping the water wouldn't spoil it and I dove into the water and began swimming.
This was a difficult task, not because of the swimming but Xavier’s demand from my mind was to paddle ashore and I wasn't doing that. The pain was immeasurable but stopping would mean drowning to death and I wasn't in the mood for that
I was getting tired by the time I got to where I could stand in the water and I began walking ashore.
Then a hand clamped on my ankle.
“Aghh! Fuck off!” I screamed in anger, kicking the person. Theresa's training sessions with me were finally paying off and I was able to ward them off long enough for me to get to the shore.
The moment I stepped on land, the insistent tugging on my mind finally stopped and I walked to the door.
I began pounding on it, hoping someone had finally escaped far enough to come and help me open the door but it seemed a futile effort and to make matters worse, the alien that I'd kicked back into the water wasn't dead, instead, he was crawling out of water to me and I kept banging the key, hoping someone would hear me.
“You stupid human skank! You got my brother killed and you ran off with the Prince? I'll kill you off and no one would know about it!” He screamed as he ran towards me with a limp
I watched in horror, hoping someone would rescue me.
