CHAPTER HUNDRED AND NINETY

My eyes were as wide as saucers as they flew in a triangular pattern with the one I was in taking the lead.

I looked out the small window on my left at the men on the other ships.

As they flew down to the huge landing space on the ground, every one of them stood up in attention and lined up in an orderly manner.

The guy that was assigned to me came and unlocked the key on the padlock and started struggling to lock it with my hands behind my back.

He unlocked my left hand first and tried to drag it closer to the right hand so he could chain it together. I didn't let him.

I was putting my hands as far apart as possible, I wasn't going to make it easy for him.

I could feel the perspiration off him as he was scared I was going to hurt him if he let go of the other hand while trying to unlock the other.

They were all dressed up in their armor now except him, so he didn't appear as tough as they usually did. I could hear his grunts as he tried to make sure the chains were tight but I was obviously stronger than him.

“Is she resisting?” I heard the voice of the general, and I knew I had to stop toying with him or get out down like a rabid dog.

And considering we were landing already, I needed to be alert so I could survey the area.

I mentally locked the padlock myself, shocking him.

As the warship rough landed, I had to hold onto the chair to avoid falling. Some soldiers held each other or else, they'd have fallen over each other.

I registered the tarmac and how huge it was, as well as the many different types of planes, jets, and warships they had.

They were technologically advanced but more on the side of war than anything else. It seemed they were in the business of fighting and other planets hired them to do their dirty jobs, not just the current leader of Zorvath.

Some of the planes looked more sophisticated than others, but as they led the way for us to walk out of the vehicle, well they matched, and I walked; I sighted one jet that was perfect for me.

It was small and black, and it looked like it'd be easy to navigate. At that moment, I missed my sister so much; she'd know how to fly a plane on demand. She had so much unnecessary information in her head that when we did get into dicey situations, she always knew what to do.

But I would trust my powers to adapt; I didn't want to wait for Xavier to endanger himself and the ship to come to rescue me if I could do it myself.

I wished I could teleport right now and fly off but one, they'd shoot me down from the sky, this escape mission was only possible at night. And two, I needed to figure out a way to take this thing from my head.

I wonder if water would have any effect on it since it was electrical. I guess I'll see tonight when I have a bath.

Lost in my thoughts, I didn't notice when the crowd gathered at the front until they'd started chanting.

I had to turn my neck sideways to figure out where the noise was coming from since these soldiers blocked my view.

Women in uniform sarees, red and different jewelries dangling from their waist and legs stood in both sides and were singing as we walked in between them.

They threw flowers on the ground and blew kisses to the soldiers who puffed out their chests, taking in all the praise.

They were singing in their language but I could figure out what they were saying even if I didn't have an internal translator.

Praises and promises were flowing out of their mouths and feet as they danced and some of the soldiers even touched the dancers.

When it got to my turn, I got scalding looks from them, making me roll my eyes in irritation.

If only they knew what I could do to them if this crap wasn't on my head right now.

It was dug so deep into my skull and my skin had healed around it that trying to pull it out might release the toxins into my head.

I sighed as we neared the end of the welcoming party; I was already tired. Hungry, too, considering I'd thrown away the uncooked lizard they'd given to me as food.

Maybe they had fire in their throat or something but I didn't and would rather die than eat that.

So yeah, I was more than irritated.

I'd thought we'd come close to the end of this stupid walk but it was only the beginning.

The dancers joined the line from the back as we continued walking.

“You guys don't have land transportation?” I asked the guy holding the key to my chains.

“We do various types. In fact, our lead manufacturer is coming out with this new ride this –”

“So why the fuck are we walking this far when a vehicle could have come to pick us up?”

“Oh. It's called the Trek,” he said as though I was supposed to understand what he was talking about. I gave him a look before he continued to explain further. “It's a tradition by our ancestors. Whenever we come back from a conquest, we let the soil feel our match of victory or loss. It prepares us for more victories ahead,” he finished with pride.

“I don't even know how that makes sense to you but how long does this last?”

“About an hour or so,” he finished with a smile.

“What?!” I exclaimed, loud enough that I got stares from the other Draks walking ahead of us.

They were no longer slow-matching; it was more fast-paced now.

“Keep it quiet, this is a sacred act and must be done with calmness and quietness so everyone can connect to the ancestors,” he chided me like a child.

So the journey began and all through it, I was sure I was going to faint.
