My Wife Met Someone New?

Xavier’s chilling laughter erupted in the enclosed space of the car. His head was thrown backward as he let out a sound that caused his driver to shiver in his seat. The slightly older man looked through the rearview mirror, crowing at the sight of his usually stoic boss in laughter.

Xavier sighed as his laughter died down. It was the first time in weeks that he was smiling so hard. The first time since he….

The fact that he’d been trying so hard to keep at the back of his mind suddenly resurfaced. He found himself thinking about her for the thousandth time in a day, just like every other day. There wasn’t a single day since the incident that she didn’t fill his head. There wasn’t a single day that he spent without her in his head, playing the role of a wide even in his head and occupying his every being.

He pinched the path between his brows. He missed her to death. He missed every single thing about her. The laughter, the tears, the arguments, and the baby had been a strong connection that they shared.

How did he feel after he found out that he wouldn’t get a chance to hold his first-ever baby? It had been the most devastating news of his life and for the first week, he hadn’t known how to handle his emotions. He hadn’t wanted to believe that the baby they made together was gone.

He didn’t think that it was her fault, it could never be. If it were to be seen in a different light, it was their both fault. If only he hadn’t decided to lock her father in the basement of their home and if only she’d been a little bit more trusting, their baby would still be fine. But as they say, experience is the best teacher.

Just a little bit of space he’d decided to give her, to give them. A grieving space, to mourn the baby that they’d lost so soon. Just the thought of the divorce papers that lay on his desk was enough to have him balling his fingers into a fist. It was just a little space that he gave them and she dared to send him divorce papers, signed and with a note which read ‘sign the papers and let’s go out speedster ways.’

He’d resisted the urge to look for her that instant and shove the divorce paper into her face. Divorce? He’d warned her never to say the word in his face before. Divorce wasn’t in their dictionary. Theirs was forever and goodness, he meant it.

“Start the car.”

As the car drove out of the company, he recalled the activities of the previous weeks. How he’d buried himself into workouts so he could forget everything that was bothering him, how he’d been unable to sleep without her by his side, and how his mansion became super empty because of her absence. It has been almost overbearing to him.

Soon, the car drove into the busy road of the city. To get his mind away from things, Xavier fished his phone out of his pocket and began scrolling through the company internet group where he saw that the result of the meeting had been published everywhere and Margaret’s frustration that had rewatched the ears of the employees.

He’d warned her to stay away from the business but she hadn’t listened and to him, when it came to work, family was excluded. If anyone decides to become his opponent, then that was what they were. Opponents and not family members.

Xavier raised his head for a second only for his eyes to widen at the sight his eyes met with before the car breezed past. Immediately, he sat up straight and cocked his head backward to confirm his doubt.

“Stop the car!” He yelled, the car coming to a half immediately. “Move backward.”

The driver nodded in understanding and reversed the car slowly, coming to a stop when Xavier ordered to. Finally, they stopped before the target.

Xavier stared with wide eyes at the woman who sat in an open restaurant, open to the view of everyone. But it wasn’t what caught his attention the most, it was the man who sat astride her and the laughter that they shared.

He watched as his wife, his very own wife laughed with the brown-haired man and he felt his blood boil profusely. Who was he? Where on earth did he come from? Was that why she sent him divorce papers?

“Why wasn’t I informed that my wife met someone new?” His voice raised. “I asked a question.”

The man behind the wheel stared at him through the mirror and answered. “This development is new sir. We weren’t even aware.”

“New?” He raised a brow, his eyes fixated on the woman. She was laughing so freely with someone whom she met recently. They were speaking like they’d known each other for a long while.

It was the first time he met his wife after a long month and some more days and he saw her with another man. Damnit. The jealousy and desire that rose within him at the sight of her was the reason why he’d kept to himself these past few weeks and had not fulfilled his heart's desire to find her. There was no way he would leave without knowing she was away from the new man.

“Yes sir.”

Right! Although he wasn’t with her and they weren’t as they used to be, he still had his shadow guards trail her in secret and report to him every move of hers. For the first two weeks after the incident, he’d learned that she didn’t step out of her apartment except to buy groceries and a few other necessities.

“The fuck?” Xavier’s eyes darkened as he watched the new man hold Elaine’s palm and blow air on her thumb, his eyes fixed on her. “Who the fuck is he?”

His question was answered when the man cocked his head to the side and his face came into view. Xavier felt his blood run cold at the recognition of the man.
