Happiness
And so, the much-awaited show wrapped up in success. It was successful and everyone could attest to that. Everyone who attended the show couldn’t stop talking about it even after its wrap-up. Elaine after the show, has fulfilled her promise to the employees.
They were out in a restaurant, sitting at a round table and having drinks together while discussing the show. Her mood was on the highest and she knew it was going to remain so for the rest of the week or perhaps the month. She wasn’t going to let anything ruin her mood.
Taking a sip of her soft drink, she began. “Thank you all for your diligence. I swear, I appreciate it a lot and won’t forget it for a lifetime. Keep working hard and making our company go places. I have your best interest in mind and won’t forget your help.”
“We should be thanking you instead, Mrs Romano,” one of the employees commented. “You’ve done a lot better for us.”
“That is true. If it wasn’t for you Mrs Romano, I don’t know how we would be able to survive in this current economy.”
“You’re the best boss in this city. We would definitely vote for you for the Boss of the Year award.”
Elaine let out a low laugh, raising her hands playfully to stop the praises from her employees. They were flattering her too much. Who knew that they loved her so much that they were singing praises of her time and time again? On her part, she loved them too. If she had people like Ria on her side, her company would have flopped before it got to this stage.
It was a good thing that Ria did what she did and got away from her company. Someone once said that everything happened for a reason and it was only just now that Elaine realized that. Everything happens for a reason.
If Ria hadn’t betrayed her and if Jimmy had cheated, she wouldn’t have had the chance to get married to the man she was married to now. He was surely the best thing that has happened to her and she blessed the day that Jimmy and Ria decided to show their true colors. If they hadn’t, she would’ve been with her husband. Just the thought of going home to be with him made her blush stupidly.
“It’s fine, you guys are flattering me too much. I’m going to get diabetes from all this sweetness.”
“I swear, Mrs Romano. When you give birth, your baby will be loved by us. We’ll treat the baby like a little Prince or queen.”
Elaine’s lips rode into a smile, her hands caressing her tummy slowly.
“It’s a girl,” she whispered and at that moment, everyone let out a cheer.
Beth hugged her arms from the side and raised a glass. “A toast to baby girl.”
They followed her lead and raised their glass, their smile wide as they repeated.
“A toast to baby girl.”
At that instant, they took a long gulp of their drinks, downing their glasses in one go and afterward, they clapped their hands and cheered loudly.
“Okay, thank you all for your kindness. I’m sorry to inform you that I have to take my leave now.” Elaine stood up from her chair followed by Beth who stood after her, offering her a warm hug and a kiss on both cheeks.
“Take care, hon. Take care of our little princess.”
“Of course.”
“Thank you for the drink once again, Mrs Romano.”
Even as she stepped out of the restaurant, the jeers of the employees remained, garnering the attention of the other people seated in the restaurant. Elaine smiled as she walked out of the building, heading to the parking lot where her driver was waiting for her.
It was one of the many moments where she was genuinely happy and she prayed that the happiness she was receiving would last a lifetime. She prayed that nothing would happen to her happiness and that her life would go smoothly from then on. The fashion show, her baby, and the employees living for her would keep her happy for the rest of the month. She would remember this day for as long as she lived.
Once she got to the parking lot, she got into the backseat of the car and immediately the driver started the car.
In less than twenty minutes, the car rolled into their mansion, stopping right in front of the building for her to climb out. She got out of the car and made her way inside the mansion.
As she stepped into the mansion, her gaze fled across her living area. Aside from Grace, there was no one else in the living area.
“Where did everyone go?” She asked, her brows furrowing in confusion.”
“The servants are on their two days’ leave for the week, ma’am.” She lowered her head.
“Oh, it’s just that the house is a little bit quiet. What about you?”
“Everyone can’t leave at the same time so I’ll have my leave when the other servants return. That has been the system for a long while.”
“It has been?” She hasn’t noticed. “How about Xavier? Is he back?” She still wondered what the emergency was that had him running out of her show. Was it something serious? Would it take him a long while? She was yet to find out and the wait alone was enough to make her feel anxious.
“Sir is not back yet.”
“Oh. I’ll go upstairs then.”
“Won’t you have dinner?”
“I ate outside already.”
She walked past Grace and when she walked past Grace and headed to her room, climbing the stairs that almost made her pass out. She was contemplating moving downstairs for real. That way, she would be able to move around the house perfectly and not get tired easily. Climbing the stairs made her sore feet hurt even more.
Finally getting to the room that she shared with Xavier, she pushed the door open and stepped into the room.
