First, He Stole My Girlfriend
Deep into the night, Elaine’s eyes fluttered open, eyes drifting to look at the space beside her where Xavier had laid before she fell asleep. After the chaotic dinner with the rest of the family members, they'd all been assigned a room, each married couple to a room.
Although she preferred laying in her bed back at Xavier’s mansion, she had no choice. After all, he couldn't go back on his words. Or maybe he just wanted to see for himself how chaotic her family was and hadn't believed her when she told him that the Rock mansion was somewhere he wouldn't want to be. Well, she was glad he wouldn't be disappointed as her cousins couldn't let out a chance to annoy him.
Slowly getting out of bed, Elaine stared at the time on her phone. It was way past midnight. She turned, searching for a jug of water and when she found none, she wore her flip-flops and slowly opened the door.
She stepped silently down the stairs, making her footsteps barely audible even to her ears. She took the right turn that led to the kitchen. Luckily, the lights in the house were turned on. It seems no one was asleep, perhaps the elders were. From the corner of her eyes, as she passed the living room, she caught sight of someone sitting at the other end, probably seeing a movie but she didn't care as her feet guided her toward the kitchen.
Her heart flew to her throat the moment she walked into the kitchen, a gasp escaping her lips.
“What in the Lord’s name is going on here?”
Right before her were Xavier and Sam, staring murderously at each other. They stood tall at the same height, Sam’s fist raised ready to strike at the man who looked equally interested in exchanging blows. Elaine immediately ran to stand in between them.
“What is going on? Drop your goddamn fist, Sam.”
“Get out of the way, Elaine,” Sam warned, his eyes on Xavier.
“Are you crazy? Do you know what you're doing?”
“I know exactly what I'm doing and the only thing I want to do is crack the skull of the bastard you call your husband. Leave the way.”
“Stop.”
“Fucking leave the way.” Sam’s voice raised, eliciting a groan from Xavier.
“Raise your voice at her again and I'll make sure you don't use that voice for the rest of your miserable life.”
Sam threw his head back, a roar of laughter erupting from him. “Trust me, you have a more miserable life than I do.”
Sam lightly pushed Elaine to the side, lunging at Xavier and delivering a punch at him. “The fuck?” Xavier quickly delivered one of his, stronger and effective as it sent Sam backward.
Before he could recover and attack again, Elaine came in between them again, stretching her hand to keep both of them at arm's length.
“Do you both realize that you are not at your homes? People are asleep. Tell me, did you two know each other before today?” It seemed pretty obvious but still, she asked. From the moment Sam stepped into the dining room at dinner, she saw how Xavier’s eyes had darkened.
Thank goodness her cousins didn't attend her wedding. It would have been chaotic.
“Ask your manwhore of a husband,” Sam cursed.
Her eyes grew wide.
“Man whore? You're crossing the line, Sam.”
“He's crossed every line. How dare he get married to you after what he did to me. Bastard.”
Xavier chuckled. “Like you're any better.”
“Enough,” Elaine yelled. “Who's going to tell me the situation here? What happened? You both fucked?”
They both let out displeased sounds. Sam spat. “Over my dead body.”
“Then what is the issue?”
“He fucking slept with my girlfriend.” Finally, Sam let out the truth, silence enveloping the room afterward.
“What!” After a while of processing his words, she exclaimed.
“Your bastard husband stole my girl three years ago. He fucked her on the couch that I fucking bought in her house. And now, he's married to you. First, he stole my girlfriend, and now, my sister.”
Elaine’s mouth grew wide. “He…he's the one you talked about years ago? The one who slept with Zoey?”
“Correct.”
“Oh goodness.”
Xavier passed Sam a death glare. “Not my fault that you couldn't please her enough. She offered her cunt to me on a platter and I simply took it. Who cares if she was your girlfriend or not?” At his words, Sam attempted to push Elaine out of his way and lunged at Xavier but she was strong this time around. With every strength in her, she placed her hands on his chest and held him backward.
Sam fumed. “How dare you say something like that. If you hadn't flexed your muscles in front of her at the gym, she wouldn't have looked your way.”
“If you had been man enough to have proper muscles, she wouldn't have craved for mine.”
“It was all your fault that I lost her. You seduced her.”
“You speak like a fucking child. I blame your governess.” Xavier retaliated.
Sam weaved his fingers through his thick black hair before grabbing Elaine’s shoulder. “Where the fuck you got such a man from? Tell me, did he force you into marriage? Lock you up in his mansion and demand that you marry him? Did he seduce you?”
“Sam.”
“You can tell me anything.” He raised his gaze to Xavier, passing him a murderous stare. “I'm ready to teach him a lesson. Just tell me how he forced you into this marriage.”
