To The Cinema
Immediately, she hid the book behind her, eyes snapping to Xavier, her lips forming a smile.
“What are you doing?” He frowned at her, observing her suspicious act.
“Nothing, I was about going to bed.”
“Hmm.”
Shaking his head, he walked to her side of the bed to stand beside her, taking off his Rolex and placing it on the bedside table. Elaine shrank backward, her face heating in embarrassment.
“What are you hiding?” He asked.
“Hiding? I’m not hiding anything.”
Xavier leaned in on her, placing his hands on either side of the the bed as his presence invaded her personal space. “Then pray tell me, why are your fingers shaking?” He raised a brow.
“They’re not. That is how my fingers are.”
He nodded.
She relaxed when he pulled away, moving his head backward and straightening his back. But that was to fool her because, in the next second, his hands darted out to her back, snatching the book, eliciting a cry of surprise from her.
She quickly stood up on the bed.
“Give me back. It’s mine.”
Xavier passed her an amused look as he read every word of the book’s title, a chuckle escaping his lips. “So this is what my dear little wife reads in her free time, huh?”
She rolled her eyes, stretching forward to snatch the book from him but even after climbing the bed, his hands were too far for hers to reach. “I didn’t realize I picked it.”
“But it’s yours, right? You own dirty erotica.”
Her breath almost stopped at his words, the way he said it sounded so dirty that she almost agreed with him.
“It’s a romance book, not erotica.”
“You sure about that? That this isn’t porn?”
The fuck? He didn’t have to put it that way.
“Give it back, Xavier Romano. It’s no porn.”
“Want me to read it out loud?”
He began opening the pages. Her cheeks grew red at his expression each time he opened a page. She was busted, that was for sure. Goodness’! Why hadn’t she checked the book before picking it up?
“He spank….”
“Don’t read it.”
She covered her ears with both palms, her heart skipping a beat at his roar of laughter. It managed to shift something in her chest and for the record, she wanted to hear him laugh again. She wanted to hear the deep laughter erupt from his chest all over again. It was both sexy and soothing.
Deciding to get her book from him at all costs, she grabbed his shirt collar and clung to him, climbing into his body.
“The fuck, doll?”
Elaine remained relentless, grabbing his arms down to take her book from him while Xavier pushed his arms back. In a jerk from her, her body bumped into his, her lips smashing into his. They both froze at the contact.
Xavier dipped his head further, taking her lips in his and sucking to his heart's content. Using his distraction to her gain, she grabbed the book from him before pulling away, pushing him to the side.
“That was smart of you, doll, really smart.”
“Whatever. Stay out of my business.”
He nodded, dipping his hands into his pocket and stepping backward. “I guess I should leave you to continue your erotica then.”
“Go wherever that is not where I am.”
Smirking at her, he made his way to the bathroom door, stopping just before he could push the door open. He turned to her.
“Wanna join me in the shower?”
Elaine grunted in disbelief. “Fuck yourself.”
Once he disappeared into the bathroom, she wasted no time in racing to her belongings and dumping the book there. Someone should remind her to always check books before picking them.
Now, he was going to have every opportunity to tease her throughout their so-called honeymoon.
Well, the only thing consoling her at the moment was the loads of shopping bags a few meters away from the bed. Each time she stared at them, a different joy filled her heart.
Maybe it was the joy of using your husband’s money.
Returning to the bed, she lay down, her eyes fixated on the ceiling, reflecting on the new life she had. How many times had she tried to register the situation in her head? Countless times. None actually worked, it still felt like a dream.
Soon enough, as if to rid her problem off her, her eyes grew heavy and sleep enveloped her. By the time she opened her eyes again in the dead of the night, a strong body enveloped hers, soft breath fanning her hair.

“Where the hell are we going, doll?” Xavier asked the woman before him who was applying a finishing touch to her makeup.
Smacking her lips together, she turned to him. “How do I look?”
He wanted to say that she was ravishing in her red dress of hers and white heels but he had to know where the hell the woman dragged him from his business meeting to be at. She dragged him from his chair, threw a casual dress polo and pants at him, and forced him to wear them.
“You look normal,” he replied, eyes on his watch.
“Normal? I look normal?” Elaine stared at herself in the mirror. She for one didn’t look normal, and two, she’d done everything in her not to look normal. Her makeup was top notch and her dress? It was one of the best she bought from the Chanel shop the previous day. Thin strap, wide open back that stopped at her waist and its hem, right on the top of her knees.
“Where are we going?”
“To the cinema. You don’t have to be so boring, you know. I’ve been sitting idle all day.”
“The cinema? And who says I have to luxury time to be at a cinema?”
“It’s just for a few hours. We’ll return before you know it. There’s a show I want to desperately watch.”
“Doll..”
“Didn’t we come here for our honeymoon? What fun is it if we sit at home all day?” Besides, since she was here, she couldn’t afford to not spend Xavier’s money and have some fun. No harm in it.
“Fine. Two hours only.”
“Three.”
“Two hours, doll.”
“Two hours thirty minutes.”
“Deal.”
It’s going to be so much fun.
