Watch The Sunrise
Elaine groaned in her sleep as a small ray of light came in her direction. She turned to the side, growing at the slightly hard surface beneath her. It didn’t seem like the bed she slept in. Forcing her eyes open, she stared at the sight before her in surprise, her eyes immediately darting across.
She was out on the balcony, a thick blanket, she laid on, and beside her was Xavier.
“Wh…what? How?”
“How you got here?”
She nodded quickly. She was a light sleeper. He carried her all the way from the bedroom and she didn’t even notice.
“Tried waking you to no avail so I carried you here. You wanted to watch the sunrise today.”
“Right.”
She returned her gaze to the beautiful sight before her, a smile riding up her lips at the sight. It was the most beautiful sight she’d seen recently. It was pretty, watching the sunrise in your presence.
“I watched the sunrise a lot while growing up.”
“You did?”
“En.” She smiled at the memory. “I’ll sneak to the rooftop almost every morning and have a good time on my own, with snacks of course.”
“Must be fun”
“It was. And you?” Her head cocked to the side to stare at him.
“Not a fan. It isn’t relevant.”
“But it’s nature. One should watch and appreciate nature sometimes.”
He nodded. Who would have thought that his darling little wife was a lover of nature? “Looking at it now, it’s quite pretty.”
“See?”
“I now agree with you.” He let out a chuckle when she nodded and smiled, excited that she’d managed to convince someone to love nature. If she wanted, they would watch the sunrise and sunset every day. Together. She only just has to ask. “How are you feeling?”
“Much better than yesterday.” They locked their gaze. “Thank you.”
Just when he was about to reply, the blaring sound of his phone interrupted. Cursing, he got a hold of it from the side and stood up, talking a bit distance from her
She watched him speak on the other line, how his expression changed to anger, and how he looked back at her in concern. Finally getting off the call, he stepped toward her.
“What’s wrong?”
“We have to leave now. Go get your things.”
She stood up. “But why? I thought we were not leaving until the afternoon.”
“Just do as I say and get your things.” She followed him back into the bedroom, walking behind him as he stepped into the walk-in closet and started grabbing their things.
“Do we have to be in a hurry?”
“Elaine,” he snapped, his piercing gaze on her. “Do not anger me.”
And so, she had no choice but to listen to him, grabbing her clothes from the walk-in closet and arranging them in her suitcase. One moment he was gentle with her and now? They didn’t even have breakfast.
Without letting her freshen up or even change from her pajamas, he held her wrist and led her out of the penthouse while his men rolled their suitcases behind them.
She didn’t even wash her face or brush her teeth. What kind of emergency would make him act this way to her?
“I didn’t change or have a bath, Xavier.”
“You can do that on the plane.” His words were definite as he led her out of the hotel to the car right outside the building, the door opened for them by the driver. Once they got into the backseat, the car accelerated like a bullet.
Getting to the airport, with Xavier’s hand still wrapped around her wrist, they made their way to the jet opened and was ready for them.
“Fill me the details of the situation,” Xavier ordered his right-handed man, Rigel who forced a smile at Elaine as she stepped into the plane.
“It’s bad. We have to return to the States immediately.”
“Fuck.”
The first thing Elaine did once she climbed the stairs into the place was to head to the inner bedroom, have her bath, and change her clothes, her stomach rumbling in hunger throughout.
******
By the time they got to the States, it was way past noon already. Their flight took a total of 7 hours and 15 minutes. Once the private jet stopped at its pace at the back of Xavier’s mansion and the stairs door was pushed open for them, Xavier quickly climbed out with Rigel behind followed by Elaine. They must have forgotten about her.
He headed toward the waiting Range Rover but just before he could step in, he stopped and turned as if just remembering that she was behind him.
He walked back to her.
“I’ll be leaving for now. I’ll be back soon, you stay home and wait, okay?”
“Is it that serious?” She could recognize the worry in his voice as he spoke to her. She hoped everything was alright.
“Everything will be fine.”
She nodded. He gasped as he held her waist and brought her close to him before kissing her shortly on her lips. “I’ll see you go now.”
“What?” He just stole her thinking ability.
“Go in.”
Nodding, she got into the mansion through the back door, finger caressing her lips as she heard the sound of Xavier’s car driving out. Did he just kiss her goodbye? It was a first, really.
Her cheek grew red at the thought. Once she was sure he left, she stepped outside to the parking lot where her car was parked. “Are you going somewhere, ma’am?” The chauffeur asked.
“I’ll go alone.”
Entering into the car, she started the car and drove out of the mansion.
She needed to satisfy her curiosity, to make sure she was only overthinking things and she wasn’t really pregnant as her head was singing to her. She needed to have her peace of mind back.
