Xavier’s New Secretary
“You bitch, how dare you say that I look like shit.”
“I didn’t lie.”
Elaine scoffed. “Unbelievable.” It was totally unbelievable. She angled her head to stare at herself and when she found nothing wrong with the straight pants and woolen seated that she wore, she dipped her hand into her bag and grabbed a small hand mirror which she brought to her face, gasping at the woman who stared back at her.
Beth wasn’t wrong. She did look like shit. Fuck, she’d forgotten to look in the mirror properly before arriving at her workplace this morning. She simply tied her hair, wore lip gloss, and stormed out of the mansion. Her hands flew to her pale skin.
“Ugh!!!.”
She grabbed a pancake from the table and dabbed a decent amount into her face before applying blush and nude lipstick. Once she was sure that she at least looked presentable, she rounded the table, grabbed her bag, and began making her way to the door of the room. She stopped midway and stared at the boxes of chocolate on the table. Beth had advised that she take a box of chocolate with her.
But it wasn’t a good idea. The man who was her husband cared too much about his teeth and great physique to eat chocolates. Letting out a sigh, she walked out of the office and company, got into her car, and began driving off to Xavier’s company.
In exactly twenty minutes, Elaine’s car rolled into the parking lot of his company and she threw herself out as the car came to a stop. She breathed out loudly and walked into the building. As expected, the eyes of the employees fixated on her with each step that she took and she heard them whispering between themselves.
Somehow, she felt her legs shake from the stares that she was receiving. She didn’t even have the confidence to look around without attracting more stares. It was her second or third time in Xavier’s company and each time that she came to the company, it looked different like it was her first.
Elaine took the elevator to the top floor. Finally, the door of the elevator pinged open and she stepped out, taking heavy footsteps to Xavier’s office.
A frown settled on her forehead when she found no one in the space required for the secretary and without bothering to knock, she held the door’s handle and pushed it open, her feet coming to a stop at the sight that she met with.
Her legs trembled, her eyes taking in the scene before her. Beside Xavier who sat on his chair was a woman, standing impossibly close to him. She took in her appearance.
Red hair, brown eyes, a black skirt, and a tight shirt that pushed her boobs up too much. The worst part of it all was that she had those full boobs of hers so close to the man, her back bent as she showed him something on the files.
At that moment, Beth’s words flew into her mind again. What if leaves her for one of the hot women on his side? She couldn’t imagine her life without him again. She’d managed a month and some few weeks without him but that was at the expense of her mental health. She’s lived like a living dead all those while and never wished to return to such a state.
“Mrs Romano.” She was pulled from her thoughts by the honey-dripping voice of the woman who pulled away from Xavier’s side and rounded the table to her side. “It’s so nice to meet you in person. I’ve heard a lot about you. I’m Sonia, Mr Romano’s new secretary.” Sonia stretched her hand forward for a handshake.
Elaine raised a brow with her eyes on the stretched palm. “New secretary?”
“You’re right.”
Nodding, she took the woman’s palm, almost gasping at the insanely soft palm of hers. The woman looked too soft. “I’m Elaine, Xavier’s wife.”
“I know. I’ll leave you. See you later, Mr Romano.”
Sonia lowered her head and hit before making her way out of the office. Once she got out of sight and Elaine was sure that the door was locked, she folded her hands on her chest and passed a look at Xavier whose eyes were on hers, checking her in. “What are you doing here?”
“Who is she?” She waved his question with one of hers. Hers was more important if she needed to secure her place in Xavier’s heart and life.
“She told you who she is.”
“What if I want to hear it from you?”
Xavier shook his head and returned his attention to his file, acting like she wasn’t there.
“Xavier.” Were they going to fight again? She came to him with the hope of settling their differences but with the way things were going and with the jealousy that was settled in her heart, she wasn’t sure there would be any settling.
“She told you, Elaine. She’s my new secretary.”
“What happened to the previous one? You had a very good secretary.”
“He won’t be gone for long. He needs to attend to his family duties. I gave him a break.”
That only seemed to spite her further. Perhaps he gave a break to his real secretary just to bring in a new woman?
“You gave him a break just to bring in a new woman? I’m not dumb.”
His head snapped in her direction, his eyes glaring daggers at her. “You won’t continue your words. The fuck you’re here for, hmm? I’m busy and can’t fight right now.”
Her eyes burned with unshed tears at his cruel words. “I thought as much. I was going to apologize for last night but you know what, forget it. I didn’t feel sorry anymore. I was worried all throughout the night about you but you were busy enjoying the company of another. I’m out of here.”
With that, she swiveled around and headed toward the door.
