Ugly Ass

Beth flipped her hair backward and glared at the man in disbelief. “You want us to go with men? So they can watch us while we play with our bare butt in the air?”

“What?”

“Or you say that you want to watch my butt.”

“I’m uninterested in your ass, Miss. I doubt anyone would.”

Beth’s face burned with even more anger at the man’s words and at the moment, she felt like shoving her almond nails into his dark heart. He deserved it for insulting her butt.

“You…” she groaned. “My ass looks way better than your life,” she spat.

Elaine pinched Beth’s arms and gritting her teeth, she whispered in a way that only Beth could hear. “Did you smoke? How can you say such a thing?”

“You heard what he said. He called my ass ugly.”

“He didn’t.” Elaine couldn’t help the small laughter that broke out from her lips. She immediately pushed the laughter back in her throat when she felt Beth’s glare on her. “I mean, he only said that no one is interested…” She barely finished her words before she burst into laughter again, this time, unable to control it. “Forgive me for laughing, Beth. It’s just that it’s so funny. Forgive me.”

“You’re at his side now.”

“Of course not.” She leaned into Beth’s arms. “I’m always by your side. My one and only friend. I’ll talk to him.”
Stepping between Beth and Rigel, she faced the man and began. “Hmm, we’re uncomfortable with letting people come with us to the beach. Can that be fixed?”

“I must protect you and make sure these guards are available. If Mrs. Romano insists, I and the driver will accompany you both.”

“Anyone but you,” Beth snickered. She didn’t even know what her beef with the man was. Although they at least started on the right side the first time that they met, after that time, they became sworn enemies from nowhere. The reason was unknown to her and all she knew was that she felt an aversion for the man.

Elaine chimed in before she could say any more words. “That’s okay, Rigel. Can we leave now?”

“After you.”

After the agreement they made, Elaine grabbed the grumbling Beth through her arms and began leading her to the elevator. They got into the elevator together with Rigel and she watched as her friend glared at the man all throughout their time in the elevator. She glared dagger at him like he was the bin that swallowed all her childhood toys.

Finally? They got out of the elevator and he led them to the waiting car outside the building, the car’s door open and ready for them. Beth and Elaine got into the backseat while Rigel and the driver took their front. Stiff silence enveloped the car as it began moving through the road, the air thick and heavy. All throughout the ride, she watched as her friend glared at the man’s head and damn, Elaine was trying to wrap her hands around the hatred between them.

“Wow, this place looks so good,” Beth’s vigor only returned when they stepped onto the beach, her eyes unable to stop skimming through the place. The girls had their hands locked together as they walked into the empty space.

“The view is heavenly.” Their hair swirled around them as a result of the cool afternoon breeze. “We’re going to have so much fun.”

“I’m a hundred percent sure of that. I’m glad that we took enough sunscreen.” They squealed in excitement.

But soon enough, Elaine placed her hand around something strange. The beach was empty. There wasn’t a single soul on the beach unlike how it should be. Normally, at this kind of beach, it was expected to be crowded and noisy.

She cocked her head to the side to see if her friend was thinking the same thing and she sighed at Beth's oblivious and excited mood. “Don’t you think something is wrong?” She asked.

“What? This place is perfect, El. What could be wrong?”

“It’s empty.”

Beth stopped abruptly in her tracks causing Elaine to do the same. Both girl’s heads whipped to each other. “I just noticed. Where the hell is everyone?”

“I’m wondering too. This place should be crowded.”

“Of course. The research that I did confirmed so.”

“Do you think it’s….”

“Are we thinking the same thing?”

As if planned, both girls turned to face the man who’d been trailing behind them, his hands buried into his pocket. Like usual, he was dressed in a black three-piece suit and his hair was styled in a ridiculously handsome way that kept his forehead and face bare. Perhaps the sharp and overly attractive features of his was what made Beth angry the most?

She wished she could wipe the handsomeness out of his face.

Masking her admiration of his features, she wrapped her hands around her chest and passed him an annoyed look. “What did you do?”

He simply raised a brow. “Make me understand.”

“Why is everywhere empty? Did you do something?”

“Right, what did you do? Tell us.” She asked.

“Forgive me for not informing you earlier. The whole place has been booked for you both.”

Beth scoffed. “You booked the whole place?”

“For safety.”

She held onto her bag tightly as if resisting the urge to hit him with it and let all the strong content in it make him lose his goddamn senses. What’s the fun when there is no one?

“You’re no fun at all.”

“You both have the whole place to yourselves.”

Just before Beth could do as her toxic intuition promoted, Elaine pulled her to her side. “Don’t be vexed. You should be used to this by now. He’s just like Xavier, they’re cut from the same cloth. Anyway, it would be better if we played by ourselves. Let’s just go.”

“I’ll be waiting in the car. Take as much time.”

And so, he turned around and left the women to themselves on the beach. Once the man was out of sight, they set their eyes on the water and began the race.
