Emily’s Boyfriend

“You are. You're angry at me. You haven't even looked at me.” She sighed. “Fine, scold me already.”

“Oh, you do know that you keep fucking me up, right?”

“It wasn't intentional.”

“The fuck it wasn’t intentional that you move around without a goddamn inhaler?” His voice raised. “Shut the hell up and don’t try to create excuses. I remember telling you a thousand and one times never to move without an inhaler. But as always, you never listen to anyone but yourself.”

“I didn’t mean to forget it. You know that I always carry with me. I lost them.”

“Or you’re just so careless that you don’t care about your health. I’m done trying to lecture you like you’re a kid. Do whatever you want.”

Before he could walk out on her, she stood on top of the bed and pulled him toward her. “Okay, I’ve heard you. I’m so sorry, okay? Forgive me please.” She pulled him further to her, wrapped her hands around his neck, and hugged him tightly. “Forgive me, please. I promise I’ll go with a lot of inhalers from now on. One in my purse, three in the car, one in my clothes. If possible, I’ll hide one in my hair. I’ll always go with them.”

“You better fucking don’t make me talk about to issue again, do you hear me?”

She nodded immediately and hugged him tighter, breathing in his tantalizing scent that she knew she would be able to spend the rest of her life breathing. “Yes, honey. I’ll listen to you and never make you stressed again. For now, why don’t you put me to sleep? Your bank is sleepy.”

“Uuu think you deserve sleep. Thank your stars I got to the scene earlier. You would’ve been dead.”

“Not to worry, I’m not dying so soon. Put me to sleep already.”

He swept her off her feet and helped her lay on the bed before moving over to the other side and getting in, turning her around so that he was behind her and he wrapped his arms around her body. “This is more comfortable.”

“So comfortable. I want to sleep in your arms every day.”

“You get to. Sleep already.”

Just as he wanted, her eyes soon grew heavy and they fluttered shut before she finally gave in to the sleep that overtook her. “Goodnight.”

“Goodnight.”

*****

In the early hours of the next day, Elaine drove into the Rock mansion. She was welcomed grandly by the servants as she stepped l out of the car and headed into the house. Her eyes lit up when they fell on Emily, the first person that she saw when the front door opened.

“Ems,” she called, rushed to her, and engaged in a tight hug with her, their hands round each other’s body. “How are you?”

“Look at you, you’re glowing. I can tell from the first glance that your husband is doing a good job taking care of you. I’m slightly jealous.”

Elaine threw her head backward and laughed. “Don’t be. I’m sure your Prince Charming is on his way. Just be patient, okay?”

“Sighing in pain. When I eventually get married, I want to be married to a man like your husband. Everyone knows how hardworking he is and how much he loves and cares for you.”
Finally, they pulled away from the hug and both sat on a couch.

“Where is Mother?” Elaine asked when she didn’t see her mother around. She was usually around in the mornings and wouldn’t leave until there was somewhere important to be at.

“She went to prepare for a yoga class.”

“What?” She laughed. “Yoga at this time? Mother is really something else.”

“I asked her not to leave but she insisted. How was your meeting with Ria anyway?”

“Ria is something else. I talked with her.”

“And her response?”

“She said nothing much, except that she didn’t need our help and a whole lot of bulshit. But after much persuasion, I think I left her on a good note. I’m positive that she will come around this time. We should just be positive and wait for her to think.”

“I hope that you’re right now. The mother is so worried about Ria that she wakes up every night and cries about her daughter going astray and stuff. I’m tired from consoling her every time.”

“We hope so. By the way, what’s the gist? You promised to tell me something.” She’d rushed here because Emily had texted that she had something to say to her and that she couldn’t say it on the phone. From the look of things, she figured that it might be serious. “I’m always here if you need to talk.”

“I need to talk. Not to worry, tough. It’s nothing serious.”

She angled herself so that she sat face-to-face with Emily. “I’m all ears.”

“The thing is that I think I’ll be getting married soon.”

Elaine’s hands flew to her mouth immediately and her eyes grew wide in utter shock. She gasped as she processed Emily’s words in her head and just as it became clear as day, she jumped into Emily’s embrace. “Oh, my goodness. This is real? Are you telling the truth?”

Emily burst into laughter and peeled Elaine’s hands off her body. “It’s the truth. I don’t know yet, but I think he’s going to propose.” She quickly covered Elaine’s mouth with her palm, stopping the squeal that tore out from her mouth. “Don’t let the guards hear you. They’ll spill to Mother.”

“Speak Emily, who is this guy? Why am I only just hearing about him?”

“I’m so sorry I called you over for this but I saw a ring in his closet yesterday and I can’t hold my excitement. I think it’s for me and that he’s going to propose. I can’t control my excitement.”

“Who is heeee?”

“His name is Jarius, and he’s from North America. He’s super hot too. I can’t wait for him to propose.”
