Storm
“Welcome, Mr Romano.” Ignoring the servants who bowed at him in welcome, Xavier stormed into his mansion, losing his tie and throwing it where he didn’t care. Boiling in rage, he walked to the kitchen, grabbed a bottle of water from the fridge, and climbed the stairs that led to the rooms. Just before he could open the door of his room and get in, his eyes fell on Elaine’s door, legs taking slow steps to her door.
With a light push, the door opened, indicating it wasn’t locked in the first place. He stepped into the empty room, eyes staring around for any trace of the woman whose face might calm his raging mind. After leaving Margaret’s house and threatening her children, he’d headed toward his mansion.
“Doll?” He called. Perhaps she was in the bathroom. “Elaine?” He called again but just like the first time, he was answered by silence. At the thought of something happening to her in the bathroom, he wasted no time barging in, eyes scanning the empty wash place. Where the fuck she went to.
He was desperate to see her face right now. He walked out of her room to his, searching every nook and cranny in search of the girl and when he didn’t see her, a groan escaped from his lips. For the next ten minutes, Xavier used it in searching for his wife in the rooms, and only when he didn’t find her did he climb down the stairs to the servants in anger.
“Where the fuck is my wife?” He asked the head servant.
“Mrs Romano is taking a stroll, sir,” Grace replied.
“What?”
“She left an hour ago.”
Xavier ran his fingers through his thick hair. The fuck you let my wife go outside alone?” His eyes widened at the sound of the storm outside. It was raining.
“She insisted on going alone, sir.”
“Didn’t you see the weather? What the fuck I hired you for if you can’t look after my wife and make sure she doesn’t go out when it storming.”
The woman lowered her head, not daring to meet the eyes of the raging man before her.
“Next time something like this happens? I’ll make sure to have y’all sleep outside when it’s storming, get it?”
Their legs cowered in fear as they muttered in unison. “Yes, Mr Romano.”
“Go get me a coat, Grace.”
Without a second thought, Grace ran upstairs, halfway up the stairs, she heard his voice behind her. “And an umbrella. I'll give you three seconds.”
She sprinted to his room, running into his walk-in closet and coming out with a large coat, on her way out, she grabbed an umbrella. She rushed downstairs, handing him the coat and umbrella, her breath rough and hard.
Xavier didn’t spare the servants a second look as he filed out of his home, entering his car and driving off, hands clenching the umbrella.

Goosebumps rose in Elaine’s skin as she squatted in a tiny space that sheltered her from the rain. She knew it was going to storm but she didn’t know it would storm quicker than she expected. After she got home from seeing Beth, she’d decided to take a stroll, to get her mind off the things bothering her.
Tucking the few strands of hair on her face back on her ear, she darted her palm toward the rain, gathering the water on her hand and letting it stream down. She likes the sound of rain. It was both peaceful and relaxing, normally helping her get her mind off things. But this time, nothing she tried ever got her mind off the thought of her pregnancy.
She was still trying to come in contact with the fact that a life now lived inside her, she was carrying a baby and she didn't know what to do with it. Take it out or let it be?
Taking her hand away from the ran, she folded both hands on her knees and buried her head in between them, letting her tears flow freely down her cheek for the first time since the doctor announced the news.
“Doll?”
Her tears automatically stopped at the call, her eyes widening. Was it real? Definitely not real, right?
“Elaine.” She raised her head a bit, eyes widening at the dark shadow before her. “Stand up, doll. I’ll take you home.”
Her head rode up to stare at the man, mouth agape. He helped her up before wrapping the thick coat around her, warming her up.
“Ho…how did you find me?”
“I have my ways.” He had a tracker set on her phone.
“Huh?”
“Too many questions, Elaine. Walk. He covered her with the blue umbrella in his hand and helped her to the car. She hadn’t heard the sound when it stopped.
Once they settled in the car, he turned on the car’s temperature, making sure she was warm before he started driving, heading back to the mansion.
“What did you come all the way here for?”
She avoided his piercing gaze. “I only came for a stroll.”
“A stroll, in the middle of the night?”
“It wasn’t this late when I left. I didn’t know it was going to rain so soon.” She wrapped her hand around herself. For the rest of the journey, they rode in silence. Once they got to the mansion, they stepped out together, heading inside the house.
She immediately climbed the stairs to her room, peeled her clothes off, and slipped into a thick pj just in time for him to get into the room with a mug in his hand.
“Here.” He handed it over to her.
“What is it?”
“Warm water. Drink it.”
Offering him a thank you gaze, she brought the mug to her lips and consumed the water in a go.
“Now, tell me why you went to the hospital?”
