Let Go Of Him

Elaine stepped backward as her father gritted her teeth and slapped his hands on the floor, groaning in pain afterward. “What are you doing? Help me up and let’s get out of this place before he returns.”

“And if I get you out of here, what’s going to happen? For all I care, you did something wrong that made Xavier put you here.” She didn’t trust him. A father who abandoned his kids at an early age is not to be trusted.

“I told you he’s dangerous. I did nothing. Let’s get out of here before he comes.” His voice dripped with desperation and he slowly helped himself up, holding the wall for support. “I’m still your father no matter what. You can’t leave me here. He’s going to kill me. Do you see this?” He gestured to the scars and blood stains on his body. “He did this. He asked his boys to torture me until I can’t feel my limbs anymore.”

She clamped her eyes shut and the next time she opened it, she nodded, stepping toward him and heading his arms in support. No matter what anyone says, he was still her father and she knew that if she left him in the basement, the only thing she would see next time was his dead body.

He was her sister’s father and her mother’s husband. For them, she was going to bring him out safe and sound even if it meant getting into a bad situation with Xavier. How could he treat humans like animals?

“Let’s go, father.”

She held onto his arms and led him to climb up the stairs carefully. Once they got to the top, she helped him climb up to the study room.

“I’ll tear the bastard apart once I become strong enough,” the man gritted his teeth, staring at the study room. Stepping to the table, he flipped away the papers on the table, sending them flying up in the air.

“What are you doing? You have to stop.”

“He put me in this situation.”

Her hands closed around her mouth and her sobs increased when he flipped away more paper up in the air. She knew that whatever was going on was not good for her health. Her baby might not be in the best health right now.

The door burst open and Grace rushed in, his legs immediately taking her to the older man. She pulled him away from the table and pushed him down to the floor.

“Ma’am, are you okay?” She asked.

“I’m good.” Elaine stepped to her father and again helped him rise to his feet. Grace stepped before her.

“You cannot take him away.” She lowered her head. “He’s Mr Romano’s prisoner.”

“So you knew about this too? You knew Xavier was keeping a human captured?”

“I believe we shouldn’t involve ourselves in his business.”

“Not this one.” She tried to walk past Grace again but the woman was adamant. She kept her hands stretched, determined not to let her pass. She was a devoted servant to Xavier.

“What are you doing? Get out of my way.”

“Ma’am don’t do this. Mr Romano is going to get furious.”

“You’re going to defy me? What will he say when I tell him that you dared to defy my orders.” I passed her a piercing gaze. “Don’t forget I am the madam of this house and I have as much powers as Xavier does. Now, move.”

Reluctantly, Grace stepped aside, letting Elaine make her way out of the study room, and heading to the living room.

Elaine wrapped her father’s arms around her neck and supported him with her other hand around his back. Slowly, they eventually got to the living room.

Just a few inches away from the main door of the mansion, the door flung open and Xavier and Rigel marched in, their feet coming to a stop at the sight before them, their eyes wide.

“Let go of him, Doll.” Xavier’s words came in a deep rough command that Anna found her legs trembling, her body urging her to listen to them and who was her husband.

“Mrs Romano, you don’t know what you’re doing.” Rigel stepped forward. “You have to let him go for your safety.”

Elaine shook her head. “I won’t.”

“Let him go and come to me,” Xavier ordered, this time his voice was low.

“You’re going to kill him,” she cried.

“Elaine!”

Xavier took a step forward but she took two steps back with the man, her body bending a bit to the table. She picked up the fruit knife from the fruit plate and glared at the men before her.

“If any of you try anything funny…” She brought the knife to her stomach. “I’ll do it. Don’t dare me.” She knew he was angry from the look in his eyes and from the way he’d yelled her name.

“Drop that fucking knife. The fuck you found him?” He roared.

She yelled. “You should be feeling guilty for keeping a human hostage in our house, treating him like an animal, and leaving him to writhe in pain. Not just any human, my father!”

Silence enveloped the room after Elaine’s words. Xavier stared at Rigel, their eyes meeting each other in shock. He returned his gaze to Elaine.

“What did you say?”

His jaw hardened as he didn't see any ounce lying in her eyes. She simply took her stance, standing on her words.

“I asked, what you just said, Elaine?”

“You know about it,” she deadpanned. “You knew he’s my father yet you still treated him like an animal. I can’t believe this,” her tears rolled down her eyes.

“Calm down. We can talk this out.”

“I don’t want to talk about anything. I don’t want to hear any of your bullshits. You’re even worse than I imagined.” Yeah, she knew that Xavier was part of the mafia and that he was dangerous but not his. Torturing another human in such an inhuman way? She never imagined it.
