You’re Not Going To Let Our Baby Suffer
Once Elaine was out of Xavier’s office, her smile disappeared. As she walked past the secretary who was applying lip gloss to her lips, she passed her a glare.
“Goodbye, Mrs Romano.”
She paused. “Thank you. By the way, I didn’t know it’s part of a secretary’s job to apply lip gloss at work.”
The woman quickly covered the lid of her lip gloss, dropped her mirror, and turned to face her. “I’m sorry but I don’t like my lips chapped. Yours is a bit dry, do you want some?”
Elaine clutched her fist. “Sorry, but I don’t use such glosses. Guys hate sticky lip gloss. Goodbye.”
With that, she swiveled around and entered into the elevator that led to the last floor. With her hands fisting her bag, she walked out of the building, heading to the parking lot. How dare Sonia offer her a goddamn lip gloss. Just from the first meeting, she hated the woman’s gut.
Don’t get her wrong, she knew she was acting a bit insecure but whatever. The woman was doing too much for a mere secretary and somehow, Elaine’s instinct told her all she needed to know about her. Sonia was attracted to her husband and she saw it when she opened the door. She’d seen how she stared at Xavier so lovingly with those eyes that spoke volumes. It wasn’t normal at all.
Xavier better be right about the woman just being around for the meantime as his secretary was away. Otherwise, she wasn’t sure the topic would die any time soon. Plus she wasn’t ready for ‘other woman’ drama.
Her footsteps echoed loudly in the quiet parking lot as she got in, her heels clicking with each step that she took. Just a few steps away from her car, she felt someone walking behind her and her footstep immediately fluttered to a stop. She turned and sighed when she found no one behind her.
“Oh my.” A shriek left her lips when she turned again only to see someone right in front of her. Her heart immediately flew to her mouth and her hands flew upward to clutch her chest in surprise. “The fuck?” Finally registering the person, no people before her, her eyes widened. How the hell did they get in?
“Wh…what are you doing here? How did you even get in?”
Jimmy folded a hand under his chest and looked at Elaine from her head down to her toes. “You really lost your baby? My condolences.” His voice seemed too calm for the usual angry Jimmy that she knew.
Beside him was Ria who had her head down, her hands on her back, and just like her husband, she looked too calm for the usual troublesome girl that Elaine knew. She couldn’t recognize the people before her.
“Is there something I can do for you both? By the way, condolences accepted even though I know you don’t mean it.”
“I mean if, I swear,” Jimmy replied almost immediately. “I was truly heartbroken when I heard of your miscarriage. I was rooting for you.”
She rolled her eyes. “She would have believed that if she was the old Elaine who would do anything for the man before her. She’d been ready to go to any length for him but in the end, he ended up leaving her for Ria who had barely anything to offer.
“Thanks for your kind words. May I ask how you both were able to get in?”
“You know this place belongs to my uncle and my mother. I can get in whenever I want.”
“You are about that.”
“Of course. How are you, Elaine?”
Elaine let out a puffed breath. Shaking her head at them mockingly, she mocked. “Don’t be stupid, I’m doing fine as you can see. If there’s nothing, I’ll leave.”
“There is something.” Ria chimed in. “We wanted to apologize for the evil doings. We’re sorry for troubling you all this while.”
“Jokers.” She didn’t need a stranger to tell her that they were goddamn jokers and she for sure didn’t need another stranger to tell her that Jimmy and Ria were playing at something. They were cooking!
And she wasn’t going to stand and listen to them like she was jobless. She simply passed them the most piercing glare in the world and stormed past them, moving over to her car which was parked a few meters away.
Just as she held the door’s handle, Jimmy ran toward her and held her wrist softly. “Please give me an audience, baby.”
She found Ria slowly making her way to them but she was unable to hear them speak.
“Baby? I think you have two babies on the way to us.”
“You know that you mean a lot more than them to me.”
“More than your child ?”
“More, honey. You know also that you’re the one that I truly love, right? I loved you then and now. If Ria hadn’t complicated things, we would’ve been married.”
“Drop it. This isn’t going to work for me.”
“Trust me, we can still be together. Fuck Ria, fuck my uncle, fuck everyone around, we can elope and get married still,” he spoke in a hushed tone. “My heart still belongs to you even after all this while.”
“You’re sick.”
“I love you, Elaine. Come back to me.” It was at that instant that Ria finally got to them and he quickly changed his tone and words. “What I’m trying to say is that we’ll do anything as long as you forgive us and ask Xavier Romano to help our company back into position “
Ria nodded and she desperately walked to Elaine and held her palms. “My husband is right. Please help us talk to Xavier. I promise we’ll do anything that you ask. Our business is crumbling and we have a baby on the way. I know you’re not going to let our baby suffer. You were going to be a Mom.”
Elaine sighed at their pathetic attempt. She slowly pulled away from her ‘former’ sister and opened the door of her car. “I’ll think about it for the sake of your child. I'll give you a call.”
