Xavier’s Secret
He’d treated her with so much love and attention, with all the attention that there is in this world yet the shocking reality was that he meant none of it. His attitude toward her was simply because of the baby that she carried in her womb. Other than that, she was almost sure he would treat her the same way as he did to her father.
“Acting this way is bad for the health of both you and the baby. Listen to me and let him go first. He’s fucking dangerous.” Xavier's eyes darted to the man beside his wife who had his head down, his hair hanging around his head like an abandoned bed nest and his eyes were closed. He couldn’t tell if he was pretending or not but all he knew was that he needed to get her away from him.
“It’s always the baby. You don’t care about anyone else’s life.”
“You know that’s not true. If the fucker didn’t cross me, I wouldn’t have passed through all the trouble to bring him here.”
“Enough!” She roared, heaving loudly.
“I didn’t know he was your father, Elaine, I swear.” When he’d hired a private investigator to run through a background search on her family, he’d excluded her father. He’d thought that he was irrelevant and was one of those regular fathers who left their family to chase down other women when things became hard.
He never thought that it was even worse. Her father is the biggest asshole that exists.
“And if you knew, what would you have done? Would that have stopped you from torturing him? Would that have stopped you from locking him you that dark basement?”
“Elaine.”
“Just answer the question.”
“It wouldn’t have but…”
“That is all I need to know.” It wouldn’t have stopped him and so there was nothing else to hear. She wasn’t interested in any excuse of his. “Just let me take him away, Xavier. I need to clear my head also.”
“You’re not leaving with him.” He attempted to walk toward her again but she pointed the knife to her tummy again, giving him those looks that dared him to try and see.
“You know you shouldn’t be going through this.”
“I’ll do it over and over again. Gladly. If you dare to stop me, Xavier, I’ll put this knife in my stomach and put an end to all of these.” She knew that there was no way on earth that she would be able to harm her baby but she knew that the child was Xavier’s biggest weakness. ‘Sorry, baby. Mommy has to threaten you,” she said inwardly.
“Will you let me leave or do you want me to harm your baby.”
Xavier clamped his eyes shut, his fingers clenching into a fist beside him. When he opened them again, they gazed at Rigel and they both moved away from the door, setting space for her to pass.
Elaine swallowed. She helped her father with one hand and with the other, she held the knife to her stomach as a threat to Xavier. Once she was face to face with Xavier, she warned. “One more thing, make sure not to send any of your men behind me. Else you know what’ll happen. Do you understand?”
“I do.”
Nodding in approval, she helped the man outside the house and into her car. After locking the door, she let out a devastating sigh and burst into tears.
She paused when she heard a light chuckle beside her and she cocked her head to the side only to see her father smiling at her. “That was impressive. You for sure have it in you.”
Elaine frowned, wondering how the man went from so weak to a little bit stable in five minutes. Had he been pretending?
“What are you doing? Start the car, let's get out of this hellhole. Neither of us should return here.”
She wiped her tears. “Wh…where do plan to go?”
“Take me to your mother and sisters. I need a place to crash.”
He groaned as she started the car abruptly, his injured arm colliding with the car’s door. “Drive slowly,” he bellowed, gritting his teeth.
“Mother might not like this.”
“Just do as you’re told. Take me home.”

“The fuck did that happen,” Xavier yelled, flipping the middle table aside, the sound of crashing glass reverberating in the room. Rigel placed his hand on his shoulder but Xavier hit it away, his eyes glaring daggers at Grace who knelt beneath him.
“You had just one job. Just one, yet you couldn’t do it. All you had to do was to watch over my wife but you couldn’t do that. What the hell do I do with you now?”
Race lowered her head, her knees shaking tremendously. “Forgive me, sir. I thought that madam was asleep already. I didn’t know she would come back down.”
“You’ll be held accountable for this. If you can’t keep my house, tell me why you’re the housekeeper?”
Rigel rushed in between them. “Now is not the time to punish anyone. We have to act fast. Your pregnant wife is in his hands, don’t forget.”
“Fuck! How did she even find out about the basement?” He’d done well to keep it hidden away from her for months. But who was he kidding? She was smart as fuck and detecting an ordinary basement was no big deal for her. He should’ve known better.
“I wonder too. We did well to keep it hidden.”
“I’m sure it’s that bastard. He played some tricks.” Xavier slumped on one of the couches, his hands pulling his hair in frustration. He still remembered the eyes of betrayal that she gave him a few minutes ago. His wife, damn, she’d cried her eyes out. It was his fault. He should have been more careful.
The shock of his captor being Elaine’s father was even more shocking to him. The man had managed to fool everyone for years and right now, he felt like killing him for real.
“Damn.” For all he knew, she might hate him for this. He couldn’t bear the thought of his wife hating him.
He rose from the couch, pacing around the living room while thinking of the entire step to take.
Just then, the door of the house flung open and a man ran in, heaving loudly while trying to catch his breath.
“Boss, there is a problem,” he announced. “The Mrs has been taken.”
