The Wedding
“Xavier Romano, do you take Elaine Rock to be your lawfully wedded wife to have and to hold from this day forward, for better and for worse, for richer and for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish in the presence of God?” The ministering officer asked.
Without hesitation, Xavier replied.
“I do.” He slipped a ring into her waiting finger.
Turning to Elaine, the officer repeated.
“Elaine Rock, do you take Xavier Romano to be your lawfully wedded husband, the have and to hold from this day forward, for better and for worse, for richer and for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish in the presence of God?”
Elaine frowned underneath her veil, her head processing each word of the ministering officer. Did she really have to say the vows? It was a fake wedding and she couldn't possibly be happy making the vows when she knew that she wouldn't be able to keep them. They were with each other for their benefit. It makes no sense to lie.
For better or worse? Richer and poorer? Sickness and health? No, it should be for better and for better because she wouldn’t be with him if it were anything lower than that. For richer and for richer, well, that’s self-explanatory. She was with him mainly because of his wealth and power. For health and health, she was no doctor.
“Miss Rock?” The officer called, waiting for her response. Immediately snapping out of her thoughts, she finally answered.
“I do.” With shaky hands, she slipped the ring into his finger.
“By the power bestowed upon me, I now pronounce you husband and you, wife.” To Xavier, he instructed. “You may now kiss your bride.”
Her eyes fell on Xavier, the properly coordinated and well-dressed man. If she’d thought that he was handsome before, she didn’t know what to describe him as in a wedding suit. Perfect, the man before her was perfect.
She watched as he took a step toward her before raising his hand to take off the veil, revealing her in all glory. Leaning in, he whispered into her ear.
“You look fucking pretty today, Doll.”
A blush crept up her cheek, adding to the makeup that she wore. Their eyes locked before he took her lips in his, their lips dancing in a short passionate kiss.
He licked his lips just as he broke away from her, smirking at the sight of her smeared lipstick.
The guests jeered in excitement, claps reverberating in the large hall. Elaine smiled at Mrs. Romano and then faked a smile at her mother and Emily who didn’t bother to fake their happiness.
“I’ll go to the restroom first,” She whispered to Xavier and without waiting for a reply, Elaine gathered her white bob gown in her hands and made her way to the bathroom, dragging Beth with her.
“I can't believe you're married now, Elaine. You look so pretty,” Beth complimented as they stood in front of the mirror, adding a touch of their makeup. Elaine stared at herself in the mirror, not oblivious to the fact that she looked her best, In a gorgeous wedding dress and strawberry makeup. To think that she was no longer Elaine rock but Elaine Romano was scary.
Everything was happening all of a sudden and she was barely having any chance to process the situation in her head.
“Do you think I made the right decision?”
“By getting married to Xavier Romano?”
“En,” she replied, putting a touch of Rhode lip gloss on her lips, admiring the sight after. It never ceases to make her confident.
“You made the best decision of your life, Elaine. I can’t be more proud of you. Trust me, your enemies are chok, girl. He’s a fucking billionaire.”
“I’m aware of that.”
“Better than Jimmy, that cheater.”
“I guess so.” Then she’d stop thinking and go with the flow.
They both washed their hands off on the sink, wiping the water with a tissue before making their way to the door.
“Did I tell you I met Ria on my way here?”
Elaine stopped.
“You did?”
“Well, she was trying to make the security officers let her in but she was thrown out, pathetic. It was a good thing that she wasn’t sent an invite, she would have caused chaos on our path.”
Elaine let out a laugh at Beth’s words. This must be the best news she’d heard since they started the wedding. Seeing her enemies suffer was all she wanted.
“She has been blacklisted by me. Not even her mother-in-law or pathetic husband was invited. I forgot the fact that she’s my sister.”
“Anyway, I think it’s time you and your husband leave for the honeymoon location.”
They strode out of the restroom, heading back to the hall where Xavier and the guests waited to lead them to the car waiting outside for them.
Dragging Elaine closer, Beth whispered. “Enjoy your honeymoon, bestie. Remember, you have to fill me with the details when you’re back. Your husband is fucking hot.”
They giggled, Elaine’s eyes fixated on Xavier who hadn't stopped smiling since the party started. Fake, to be precise. He was best at acting, which was well-known to her.
He walked up to her, offering her a hand.
“Ready, wife?” He asked, signaling her with his eyes to take his hand which she did.
She wrapped her hand around his forearm as they made their way to the car outside. Giving a last wave to the guests, he led her into the backseat before getting in after her.
In silence, the car started. She’d thought that they would head to the airport directly but a frown settled on her forehead when the car took a turn and headed to Xavier’s mansion.
“Why are we going back there?” She asked, confusion laced in her voice.
She received no reply from the block of ice beside her.
Finally, the car came to a stop in front of the mansion but it wasn’t the mansion that caught her eye, it was the large object at the rooftop.
“A private jet?”
