Don’t Panic, Baby
Elaine finally came in contact with the fact that her father never cared for her. She finally realized that there wasn’t a ounce of remorse from him for leaving her and the rest of his family behind years ago. He felt nothing other than relief after he left them to fend for themselves that fateful day in the amusement park. The knife on her throat was enough proof to show her just how much the man didn’t care for her or his boood in her womb.
“My daughter? We only just met again a few days ago. There is no bond between us.”
“Still…”
“You think I left you and your sisters by mistake? People who added nothing in my life can’t be around me. All you and those whiny sisters did was cry, cry and demand for things everyday. I got fed up and left. Even no, all you know how to do is cry.”
Anger overtook her every being and she found herself trying to control herself from the outburst. She clenched her fist and spat. “You know what? You’re the worst father ever.”
“Shut the hell up.”
“Our mother was right about you. You’re just a manipulative, sick and selfish bastard who can’t take no for an answer. It’s a good thing that you left us for years, at least we were able to grow up without your ill manipulative self.” Each word of hers came out with enough bite to signal a third world war. She spat out each word with the pent up pain and anger that she’d gathered from being fatherless all these years.
If she’d known that her father was truly such a sick bastard, she wouldn’t have cried when her friends in kindergarten and middle school laughed at her for being fatherless unlike every other kid. She would have smiled and told them that she was better off without one.
“If you don’t let go of her this instant, you won’t like what with come with your defiance,” Xavier growled.
“Whether I let go of her or not, I know you’re not going to let me be, so this is the right choice.”
Before Xavier could step forward and stop the man from doing what he had in mind, Albeit let out a loud laughter that reverberated around them and he let go of Elaine, but not in the normal way. He let go of her, freeing her from his hold harshly that she lost her balance and toppled over.
Elaine’s eyes widened and she let out a loud high pitched scream as her footing lost its balance and she collided harshly with the floor. It didn’t end there as her body began rolling down the stairs, her sight blurring as her head hit the floor repeatedly. Her hands came around to wrap around her stomach in an attempt to protect the life that was growing in it and once she finally got to the end of the stairs, she felt her life flashing in front of her.
Her whole life played out before her eyes as tears streamed down her cheek. It was painful, so painful that she felt the wetness steam down her thighs. Pain shot through her entire body. Good lord, she didn’t want to believe that it was happening, that she just fell down the stairs while pregnant. She wanted to open her eyes and find out that it was all a dream, perhaps a fragment of her own imagination.
A gunshot rang through the air, barely audible to her as the pain already filled her every sense and she saw the shocked and panicked Xavier ran down the stairs to her. From the corners of her eyes, she caught sight of her father running out of the scene while holding on his bloody legs.
“You okay, everything is going to be fine,” Elaine heard his soothing voice in her ears even though his expression showed clearly how panicked he was. His eyes trailed down from her face to her thighs, his eyes widening at the sight of blood that streamed down her legs.
“Don’t panic, baby. I’ll get you to the hospital real quick.”
He kissed her on her forehead before wrapping her in his embrace and carrying her from the floor.
“Xa…Xavier, the baby.”
“It’s going to be fine. Don’t panic. Be settled, okay?”
“I’m se…settled.”
“That’s my girl.”
Hurriedly, he headed out of the building, with his men as backup to him. Once he got out of the building, he headed to their car parked by the side, Rigel immediately rushing toward him at sight.
“Is she alright? We managed to capture a few of the men… oh fuck.” He saw the blood streaming down their body and raced to the car to open the door for them. Xavier got into the car and placed her on her thighs.
“Start the car quickly.”
Elaine wrapped her hands around his neck, her hands coming in contact with something sticky in his back. “Xavier?” She called with the last of her strength.
“Yes, love.”
“This blood belongs to you. Di…did you get shot?
Just as she said the word, he felt the pain in his back hit him ten fold and he hit back the groan that threatened in his throat. “Don’t bother, baby. We’ll get to the hospital soon.”
“You’re hurt.” She began to cry. “Why..why did yo…you get shot. It…it’s all my…my fault.”
Those were the last words that she let out before she succumbed into darkness.
