I'm sorry
Perhaps returning to Xavier’s house was a bad decision. Perhaps arriving at his office in the name of apology was also a bad idea? Elaine didn’t know. She’d arrived at his office in good faith to get him to return home but he didn’t even bother to acknowledge her effort or try to listen to her explanation.
It was something that she hated about Xavier. He thought that whatever he said was right and that he should be listened to all the goddamn time. He wouldn’t listen to anyone except himself and it was so frustrating that she felt her eyes burn badly from trying to hold her tears.
Just as her hand fell on the door’s handle, Xavier’s voice reverberated in the space. “Where are you going?” He shot up from his chair and walked toward her, his footsteps fast and deliberate. She quickly pushed the door open and stormed out just in time for his fingers to close around her wrist. “I asked where you’re going?”
She abruptly pulled her wrist from his hold. “What is it to you? I’m leaving and that’s all that matters.”
He sighed. “You’re here already. There is no need to leave.”
“There is every need to leave from somewhere I’m not welcomed, Xavier. You can continue what you were doing before I came. Do you want me to call your new so-called secretary?” She cocked her head to the side and smiled when she saw the woman on her desk. “Oh, there she is. You can just tell her to come continue the meeting with you.” She rolled her eyes at him before turning around and began heading to the elevator.
But for the second time, Xavier grabbed her wrist again and pulled her backward. “Fuck, don’t do this.”
“Don’t do what?”
“What you’re doing right now. Fighting with me. I told you I’m in no mood to fight.”
“You’re in no mood to fight with me, yet you’re in a mood to feel her boobs in your arms.” She knew that she was overreacting, that she was acting like a crazy manipulative insecure wife, but who cares? It was Xavier’s fault for provoking her when all she wanted was to apologize to him for ruining their night before. She didn’t even care that her voice was loud enough for the woman to hear and she just said what came to her mind.
“Elaine.”
“What? Is she not the reason why you scolded me? I get it.”
Xavier let out a frustrated sigh and before she could say another word, he dragged her back into the office, threw her gently in, and locked the door. “What was that? You knew that she could hear you.”
“And so? I was only just telling the truth.”
“You know that you’re acting crazily, right? She’s just a secretary and you’re my wife. That disrespect shouldn’t happen again.”
“A secretary and you scolded me because of her.”
“Fuck, I’m sorry I yelled at you. I’m fucking sorry if I gave you the wrong idea so calm down and stop speaking about her.”
He held her arms and stared into her eyes. “She’s a mere secretary. The only person I see is you, alright.”
Elaine shook her head. She wasn’t convinced at all. Not with the big boobs woman that was her husband’s secretary. Sonia’s boobs had looked so succulent and full that she’d almost looked at hers and sighed. She was pretty too, red pretty with sharp features that no one could easily ignore. Not even Elaine who was a woman herself.
“You left last night. You left me alone,” she cried. “You were angry and didn't even reply to my text.”
“I’m sorry that I was angry, okay? I was too blinded by anger and for that, I’m sorry. I’ll make it up to you. As for Sonia, be rest assured, she’s only here for the meantime.”
“She shouldn’t be around you for long.”
“Noted. We’re good?”
Without replying, she wrapped her hands around his neck and drew him in, pulling him into her embrace. She buried her head in his chest and sniffed the soft scent that filled her senses. She’d missed his embrace even though it was less than twenty-four hours since she was in his arms.
“I’m sorry about last night. I swear, I don’t know why he called. Perhaps it was a mistake.” After last night, George didn’t text or call again and she concluded that he might have called her thinking it was someone else. “I’m not texting or calling him.”
“I trust you. I don’t trust him. He’s fucking dangerous.”
“Do you know him? You sound like you do.”
Xavier hesitated for a while before replying. “I don’t. I just know he’s dangerous. I know them when I see them. You’re going to listen to me, right?”
She nodded, slowly pulling away from him. “I missed you.”
“I missed you too.”
She stretched her legs upward, angled her head to the side, and took his lips in his, sucking on his lips for a while before pulling away and walking to his table.
“You’re busy?”
“I’m not.” Xavier followed after her and hugged her from behind.
“But you said you were when I came in.”
“I didn’t mean it. Besides, I’m not too busy for you.”
He began trailing kisses down her nape until the barrier from her sweater stopped him. “You fucking covered up. You know that I miss you.”
Elaine pushed him away. “I’m not doing anything here with you.” Wrapping her arms around his neck again, she grinned. “If you want it, you know where to find me.”
“Don’t do this,” he groaned.
“At home. Come once you’re done working. I’ll prepare dinner and wait for you. If you dare sleep outside the mansion ever again, you’ll be touch-deprived for a month.”
“You’re not going to do that.”
“Try me. Don’t forget you’re my own personal bed warmer. Come home directly, alright?”
She pecked him on his cheek and broke away from him. Blowing him kisses, she made her way toward the door.
