The Hospital

Xavier tore away from her and raced out of the kitchen with Elaine on his tail. He ran into the living room and she chased after him. Her hands got a hold of a pillow from the couch and chased him with it in her hands, screaming to the top of her voice.

“Did you just call my smile ugly? I’ll show you what an ugly smile is.”

“But I didn’t lie, doll. Don’t let that thing touch me. My body is already in so much pain.”

When he stood at the other side of the couch, not giving her a chance to chase him, she did the unthinkable. She placed her leg on the couch and jumped to the other side, her hands immediately descending the pillow on his body, hitting him with as much strength as she had in her body.m, yelling at the top of her voice as Xavier tried to get away from her.

With each hit, she cursed. “Fucking call any part of me ugly again and I’ll kill you.”

“Fuck, you’re a woman, act like one.”

“Another insult.”

He raised his hands in the air in surrender. “I swear, I meant no harm.”

“You did.”

“I didn’t.”

He stepped backward and the back of his neck hit the couch causing him to hurl backward, his hands darting forward to pull her with him. They both collided on the couch with Elaine on top of Xavier as his body hit the couch, bouncing forward. He wrapped a hand around her waist and pressed her body on his.

“Gosh, you’re one hell of a handful, doll. Where you get this strength of yours from, hmm?”

“You don’t want to know just how much strength I have nestled in me. While I was younger, an aunt from my father’s side used to be into making clothes too. I once carried her machine by myself. I was about twelve years old and…”

Her eyes widened when Xavier shut her up with a kiss. She gasped. “Wh…what are you doing?”

“Kissing you. You talk too much.”

He clasped a hand around her nape and angled her head to the side before taking her lips in his, his lips a gentle caress on hers. Her hair fell over around them as the pace of their kiss intensified. His hands ran through her body as his lips worked on hers.

Just as the once passionate kiss turned into something stronger, he changed their position, pulling her under him. But before his lips could return to hers, the sound of the doorbell ringing broke them away from each other, their eyes turning to the bell.

Elaine immediately pulled away from him and rose from the couch.

He did same. “Are you expecting someone?”

“I ordered dinner. You see, I’m hungry as fuck. I’ll go get it.”

He pulled her to him and stopped her in her tracks. “I’ll get someone to bring it to you.”

In no time, one of Xavier’s men brought the order to them. Elaine grabbed the box excitedly and carried it into the kitchen with Xavier beside her.

“What did you order?”

“Want to guess?”

“Your regular unhealthy food.”

He sat on a chair by the island table watching as she tore the wrapper around the food box and brought the box out, slowly opening it to their gaze.

“Wow, this is exactly as I ordered,” she squealed in excitement at the sight of the chuckled wings, spicy sauce, and chips that lay on different food boxes. It was exactly as she liked it. Spicy and soft, ordered from one of the best restaurants in the city.

She washed her palms on the sink and picked up a chicken wing, bringing it up to her lips for a bite. As moaned as she had a taste of the chicken, letting the taste wash over her senses. “Xavier, you don’t know what you’re missing. You’re not having any?”

“You keep endangering your life with unhealthy meals, huh? You want to die?”

“Shut up and just eat.” She picked up another wing and shoved it into Xavier's mouth, bursting into laughter as he was forced to chew the whole thing, his eyes glaring at her. He grabbed her wrist and pulled her to him, forcing her to sit on his thighs. “You desperately are making me worked up, aren’t you? Since you ordered all of these,” he said as he traced the chicken on the plates. They were a lot. But his wife had a monster stomach, right?
“You’ll eat all of it.”

Elaine shrugged, taking a bite of the chicken. “I don’t mind. That means you’re not having any?”

“You don’t like it now that we’re here, sitting all alone in our house?” He whispered into her ears, the sound traveling from her ears downward, sending butterflies in her stomach. “Just the both of us, alone without anyone. No enemies, no friends, no family? Just eating and preparing to fuck?”

She slapped his arm. “I’m tired. I’ll go to bed immediately after this.”

The blaring of Xavier’s phone caused them to pause their conversation. Xavier dipped his hands into his pocket with smiles and retrieved his phone. He frowned when his eyes fell on the called ID.

“Answer it.”

He swiped on the green button and placed the phone close to his ears.

“Sonia?”

Elaine stiffened at the name, immediately swiveling around to face him. She narrowed her eyes as she heard the cry of Sonia from the other line.

“Mr Romano, I’m in trouble right now.”

“What is it? Is it work?”

Sonia’s cries intensified and she muttered a low “no.”

“The thing is that. I’m in the hospital right now.”

“Hospital? What happened?”

“I…I was on my way from work when a car ran into mine. I woke up and found myself here. I’m so scared right now, Mr Romano. I really need to see you else I’ll go crazy. It’s so scary here in this hospital. I’ve never been to one before and the needles here are so sharp. Mr Romano, I think I’ll die if you don’t come.”
