My Wife

Elaine softly scoffed from where she stood, her eyes glaring dagger at the man she just married. Why didn’t he say all of these before they got married? At least, she would have gotten a good amount of time to back away from the hellhole of a marriage she presumed she just got into, or that she thought.

Was Xavier like those men who only thought women were like furniture of no good importance? Men who marry just for the sake of having beautiful babies and getting a wife to do the house chores? She prayed that was not the truth because she didn’t crave anything as such.

She wasn’t a dutiful wife who would do anything her husband said or one who would wake up at four in the morning to prepare breakfast for her husband. Not when she got married for the sole purpose of business and benefit. Having so-called beautiful babies wasn’t part of the plan at all.

Fighting down the nauseous feeling that arose in her at the thought of becoming a dutiful house chore wife, she proved her ears furthest and continued listening to their conversation.

“Does that mean that you got married to the pretty doll for those reasons? Because she’s pretty and would give you intelligent and beautiful kids? That’s quite clever, man.”

Xavier only continued his sips from his drink. “Take it however you want to.”

“Great then, I do love to learn from you day by day.” Just then, Rigel’s eyes fell on her. He immediately dropped his drink on the table and turned fully to her.

“You’re here, Mrs Romano. Come on in.”

Xavier’s eyes darted to her, his eyes looking her over nodding in satisfaction at her looks. “When did you come in?” His deep voice rang.

“Just now. I came in just now,” she quickly replied, taking steps to them. “I was only staring at the beautiful interior of the jet. I’ve never seen a more gorgeous one. You are great in design, I must compliment.”

“It was Rigel’s idea.”

She nodded in understanding. Why’d she expected it? After all, her darling husband wasn’t one to waste his time designing a private jet, right? If he wasn’t Jimmy’s uncle, she would have believed it wasn’t the case. But he was and perhaps they were cut from the same cloth. You know, the birds of the same feather thingy. He might not treat her the same way Jimmy did but that didn’t mean she was going to accept it. Remember, she was a whole different person and wouldn’t let men like them break her twice.

“Now I see. Good taste, Rigel.”

“I’m flattered, Mrs Romano.” He offered a bow of respect.

“There’s no need for the formalities. I will be pleased if you call me just Elaine.”

Xavier’s eyes shot out at them, his eyes darkening at her words. He shot a glare at Rigel.

“El…”

“You would do no such thing, Rigel. You would call her by the right title,” he warned. “She is Mrs Romano to you.” He placed his hand possessively at her back, dragging her closer to him until they were sitting side by side with each other.

Elaine frowned at him, hands going around her waist to break herself free from him but he held her tighter, his gaze firm and insisting.

“Stay still.”

“It’s my name, he can call me whatever he wants.”

“He’ll call you what I want, topic over. You’re my wife.”

She twitched her lips at their agreement. Says the man who marries a woman just to breed with her and have someone to fuck whenever he wants. Not her if that was what he had in mind.

Rigel’s smile widened at their argument, his eyes fixed on the screen of his phone but his attention on the newlywed couple.

“You’re overbearing,” she cussed.

“And you’re infuriating.”

“Hard to tolerate. I don’t want to go to Paris anymore, Xavier. Let’s change direction.”

His gaze returned to her. “What?”

“I said I want a change of direction. Can’t you do that for me at least? Besides, you asked me to say whatever I wanted.” She wrapped her hand around her chest. “I don’t feel in the mood to be in Paris anymore. I got bored by the thought.”

A low disbelieving chuckle rumbled from Xavier’s chest, tossing his hands through his hair in frustration. He passed a look secretly at Rigel who only grinned and returned his gaze to his phone, leaving him to handle his problem.

“What the fuck is wrong with you, doll? We’re halfway to Paris.”

“Nothing is wrong with me. It’s my honeymoon, don’t I have to feel comfortable.”

He let out a sigh, closing his eyes to control his anger, and just like that when he opened his eyes again, all traces of anger in them disappeared and he forced a smile at her.

“And where will you not be bored to think about?”

She thought for a while before replying. “How about London? I heard there is a huge channel shop there, better than the one we have back at home, you know. And for sure, all I want is to spend my husband’s money there.”

“And what about the reservation I made in Paris? Who would stay there?”

“You are Xavier Romano, you can get a refund or to be generous, let it be. I’d prefer being in London.” She forced back a smile watching him stressed.

“Fine, you win.”

Her eyes widened when he picked up the telephone on the table beside him and placed a call to the pilot informing him of a change of direction.

She panicked immediately.

“What? Isn’t that what you want?” Xavier asked when he turned to her and found her frowning. “All you have to do is ask.”

“O…Of course.” She broke their gaze. He really did that? Just because she asked? She’d thought he would refuse her as she would finally have something real against him but he proved her wrong by doing as she asked.

Elaine had made the request just to spite him, to show him he was no better as he claimed. Xavier Romano was truly unpredictable. She should learn from him soon.

“Want anything else, dear wife?”

“Nothing.” She stood up from the seating. “I’ll just head back to the inner room.”

Without waiting for his reply, she stormed into the Inner room, fuming in anger at a flopped plan. Gulping down the glass of water at the bedside, she placed her hands on her waist.

“Don’t tell me you’re believing in him, Elaine. You heard his words.” She scolded herself. She heard his words, she heard about what exactly he was looking for in a marriage. She shouldn’t fall for his tricks, never.

He was good at deceiving, that was for sure. She shouldn’t fall for his charms, or was it already too late?
