Missing The Bullet

“Nah, you did,” Xavier replied. “You fucking knew I’d show up.”

“I didn’t. Who would await the arrival of the almighty Xavier Romano? Fine, let’s say that I did. I’ve been waiting for your arrival. Can’t you see that there is no one in my mansion? I’ve been fucking waiting.” George looked behind Xavier as if waiting for someone to pop out of his side. “Where is she? It hurts me that you came alone without that little beauty of yours.”

“One more word about her and I’ll blow your heads out.”

“Chill, man. It’s just a chick. A pussy. Though I must say that your wife is one hell of a beauty. She makes me fucking hard at a sight.”

Xavier threw his gun aside and stormed toward the man, landing a punch on his chin that peeled her away from his woman fully and sent him staggering. If it weren’t for his hold on the nearest couch, he would have fallen to the floor in shame.

“You.” A punch.”Think.” A punch. ”I was joking about killing you?” With each word of his, he delivered a punch on George’s face. “How dare you speak of my wife in such manner.” It was only after the man began bleeding profusely did he let him go with a push. But George seemed unaffected. He wiped the blood on his lips and burst into laughter, his voice reverberating in the entire house.

“You’re quite strong, Xavier.” He continued his laughter.

“You dare to stalk my wife? From the moment you began stalking her, you signed a death contract with me.”

“She’s your wife, not your property. She’s free to be stalked. I want the pussy and I’m for sure going to get it.”

“Not if you’re dead.”

“Eiya, man. Be a gentleman for once.” He straightened and turned to look at the woman who was beside him, cowering in fear at the sight of the men. She’d wanted to run away from the mansion but a glare from Xavier had made her stand in place.

“Can you go upstairs and wait for me, baby?” he whispered into the woman’s ears but it was audible enough for everyone in the living room to hear. “I’ll be done with this and return to you in no time. You know that I promised you a good fuck.”

But the girl began crying and she pulled away from him in an attempt to race out of the house. She didn’t know what came over her in the first place that made her fall for the man at first sight. He’d promised her a really good night and a few bucks. Heaven knows that if she gets out of the place alive, there is no way she will ever see him again.

“I want to go home. Please let me go,” she demanded.

“The fuck you’re defiling me. I asked you to go upstairs.”

“Please…”

“Fucking go upstairs,” he hissed, his voice traveling through her spine enough to make her shake tremendously and she immediately ran upstairs immediately, her sobs breaking out in the room. “Sorry for the yell,” he said and returned his attention to Xavier. “You scared my girl. Did you see her? The little cunt looks fuckable. I can lend you her for a while if you lend me you… fuck.”

If it weren’t for George’s good reflex to be able to dodge Xavier’s bullet, he would’ve been dead as the bullet had almost penetrated his head. It was a narrow escape. His eyes grew wide and he stared at the man in disbelief before raising his hand forward to touch the small scratch where blood pooled from. Now he knew that Xavier meant business. He didn’t come for a mere threat.

“You almost killed me.”

“You’re lucky that missed you. Watch your mouth when speaking with me.”

“And if I don’t? Oh…oh… don’t fucking dare shoot again. I wonder how you’ll get your wife alive if you dare shoot.”

“What?”

“You heard me. She’s in my hand.” He burst into laughter. After his laughter died down, combed his hands through his hair, walked to the middle table where there was a glass jug of water, and poured himself a glass full before bringing it to his lips and gulping down its content with satisfaction.

“What the hell do you mean?” He pretended not to flinch when Xavier yelled, stormed to him, and pressed the gun to his forehead. Although his legs were almost trembling, he masked it with a chuckle.

“Learn to be patient, bro. I can be dangerous when angered. Care for some?” Xavier knocked the glass of water off his hand, the sound of shattering glass resounding everywhere. “You have a really hot temper. All I did was speak to your wife a couple of times, stalk and print pictures of her. Shouldn’t amount to getting killed by you. I wonder what you’ll do to me then when you find out that her life is in my hands right now.”

Xavier’s eyes grew wide, his heartbeat beginning to pound in his chest. His eyes fell on the phone on George’s hand which he raised to his face, a live video of Elaine coming on display. “With a phone call, I can ask my men to blow her up or let her go. Though I already told them to blow her up if they don’t hear from me in the next thirty minutes.” He patted Xavier’s shoulders and passed him a mocking look. “If you kill me, she’ll die too and we will reunite in heaven. I know you wouldn’t want that. But if you let me go and walk out of my mansion this instant, I’ll let her be. Choose wisely.”

“You son of a bitch.” He pressed the gun further to his head. The only thing that was stopping him from shooting bullets through the man’s head was his words. He had his wife and he wouldn’t let anything happen to her.

George shrugged at the insult. “You choose, Mr Romano. Either leave your pride behind and go away from here to save your wife or let my wife pull the trigger. It’s up to you now.”

“Boss,” Rigel called from the side. Xavier refused to cast anyone a look and his fingers itched badly to press the trigger. He wanted the man dead with everything in him. His memories brought him to the time at George’s room where he saw his wife’s photo everywhere in his room. God, he needed to end the man for even looking at his wife in the first place. He deserved to be killed

“Boss,” Rigel hissed again, warning him not to pull the trigger, trying to get his boss to think with his head and not his heart. And all the whole, George didn’t end the smile that he carried.

“You can shoot me if you want,” he spat, his voice filled with defiance and mockery. “I’ll take it that you don’t even cherish anyone, not even your wife.”

“Shut the fuck up.”

Xavier tore the gun off his head with so much difficulty and he pushed him to the ground before kicking his chest severally. After he was sure that George had become weak, he gestured for his men and they raced out of the house, their footsteps loud and fast as they swooped out of the mansion back into their car. The driver immediately started the car and reversed, driving out into the road at speed.

Xavier dipped his hand into his suit pocket and got his phone out. His hands trembled as he placed a call to Elaine. His call was answered at the second ring. “Xavier, why are you calling at this time?” Her sweet soothing voice echoed from the other line. Her voice, he knew, was something that could brighten up his day the fastest.

“Where are you?” He deadpanned.

“What? Why asking?”

“Just answer the damn question, Elaine. Where the fuck are you.” His voice was rough and demanding.

“God, you’re yelling. Can you just calm down and let me speak.”

“I am calm.”

“Well, I just got home just now. Please come home sooner today.”

He breathed in a sigh of relief as she communicated her location. It was a good thing that she was home already. Goddamn, he felt like returning to George’s house and ramming the bullets through his body.

“Just stay put, okay? Don’t step out of the house. I’ll be there in no time. Do you understand me?”

“What the hell is going on? You’re making me scared.”

“Don't step out, Elaine. You’re listening to me. Infact go upstairs and wait.”

“You’re unbelievable. Infact, whatever. If you can’t say, I’ll do whatever I want.”

He groaned in frustration when he heard the beeping sound of his phone, indicating that the line had gone off.

“Just drive faster.” He ordered the driver before turning to Rigel.

“Sniff me quickly. Do I smell bad? Do I look like we went for trouble?” He didn’t need Elaine to know the details of the operation. Plus she’d made him promise not to hurt the man she believed was her friend. She was way too naive.

“Aside from your hair, everything else is normal.”
