Last Night
Elaine’s eyes grew wide as she watched Xavier tie an apron around his neck and waist and begin beating some eggs on a ceramic plate. “Why can’t I cook?” He raised a brow at her question.
“I mean, you’re really going to cook? I barely even see you in the kitchen.”
He chuckled. “Well, you’re going to be seeing me more often here. Get used to it.”
“I will.” It was strange seeing him in the kitchen. The Xavier that she knew never stepped into the kitchen. He had the servants to make his meals. Speaking about the servants, her head began looking everywhere in search of them. She hadn't seen them since she returned to the mansion. Plus the house seemed too quiet unlike how it used to be.
“Where are the helps?”
Xavier turned to her. “I sent them away.”
“What?”
“Relax, it’s just for a while. I got a little annoyed by their presence and had to send them away. They became overbearing.”
“But they’re good house helps. I think you’re the one who became overbearing.”
“Either way, we have to survive without them for a while. I can’t stand their faces in this house anymore. If you’re worried about meals, I’ll turn to your personal chef.”
Elaine rolled her eyes, doubting the fact that he even knew how to cook, and talk more of making meals for her every day. That was one thing that she liked about having the servant around. They were helpful as hell, especially in the food aspect. She was one hell of a glutton and appreciated that there were servants to do the work.
“I doubt that you won’t burn the kitchen on your second day.”
“Try me then.”
Elaine continued her watch as Xavier made his way around the kitchen, expertly making sandwiches for her. She dipped her lower lip between her teeth as her eyes skimmed down his body. Her eyes fell on his thick bare arms that flexed with each cut of vegetables that he did. How could anyone look so attractive when cooking?
He was perfect, ducking gorgeous and she didn’t know how to mask the blush that crept up her cheek at the sight of his broad chest. The apron wasn’t doing a good job of hiding his shirt that flung to his packs, showcasing his sexiness underneath the clothes. What she didn’t understand was why anyone managed to look so sexy even without trying.
Xavier looked like he spent half his time in the gym. Maybe he does though
“If you don’t want me to cancel the sandwich breakfast and take you on the counter here, you better stop staring at me with those intense eyes of yours.”
At his words, she immediately tore her gaze away from his body and he let out a low chuckle before placing a plateful of sandwiches before her and a cup of hot green tea.
“Eat up. I exhausted you last night.”
She didn’t wait for another second before digging into the mean, shoving bites and bites of sandwiches into her mouth and moaning at the delicious taste that washed over her mouth at each bite. He was better than she expected. She at least expected something below considering Xavier’s inconsistency in the kitchen.
“Where did you know how to do this, Xavier?” She asked when he sat down astride her and began eating from his separate plate and drink. He shot her a look at her questions, his face clearly saying ‘What kind of question are you asking?’
“What? You’re not going to tell? It’s not my fault that you never volunteer to make meals?”
“Is there something that I can’t do?”
Her lips twitched. He was right. After all, he was Xavier Romano, the emperor of the business world. She couldn’t agree with him more.
“You’re not leaving for work?” Elaine decided to ask when she saw him following after her like a lost puppy after she finished eating.
“It’s raining. We can use this opportunity for ourselves, right?”
“Or you’re just making an excuse to stay with me.” The Xavier that she knew was a workaholic and wouldn’t mind leaving for work on a rainy morning. It has happened thousands of times already. He left his work for nothing and sometimes, she thought that the company was the most important thing to him. Perhaps it was considering that he’d been working there for almost all his life.
“Take it however you want.”
Before she could take her position on the couch, his hands shot forward and grabbed her to his chest. He sat down on the couch instead and lowered her to his thighs. He grabbed the gray blanket from the other side of the couch and wrapped it around them, lowering her slowly so that her back was to his chest and his breath fanned her ears.
“Comfortable, right?”
Elaine nodded, pushing further into him like she wanted to be one with his skin. If someone had told her that she would be in the arms of her husband again a week ago, she wouldn’t have believed it. Who would have thought that she would ever be in his arms again after the loss of their child that had seemed to be the most important thing between them? She never imagined.
Just a day ago, she’d been depressed in Beth’s house, thinking about her husband and how much she missed him, and now, she was in his arms, snuggled in his embrace, this time in love. They were in love.
She was still finding it hard to believe that they’d finally confessed their love to each other and it was finally official. They were lovers and their marriage is now real. Isn’t it a dream come true? The only thing missing was the baby, their baby.
But she wasn’t going to think that much about it again or wallow in the pain forever. She was starting a new life with Xavier, a new family that they would raise and this time, she promised herself to do whatever it took to keep her family safe.
