What Husbands Do For Their Wives

“We’re here, boss.” The car finally pulled over in front of a large channel mall, the driver immediately climbing out to open the backseat door for the couple who were engrossed on the screen of their phone.

“Boss, we’re here,” the middle-aged man repeated. Their eyes left the screen of their phones at the same time to stare at the driver. Xavier arranged his suit, buttoning it in the middle before getting out of the car followed by Elaine.

“This is it?” She craned her neck to stare at him and with her hands, she kept her phone in her bag.

“Didn’t you want to be here so bad?”

She returned her gaze to the huge building before them, excitement building up in her spine. “Of course.” When had it been since she last shopped? Weeks? Months? Goodness, it felt like ages ago. Plus it was her favorite thing to do from reading romance books, of course. Who doesn’t love shopping especially when the bills are being paid by someone other than you?

As they strode into the shop, eyes turned to them, checking out the tall brown-eyed man beside her, the girls probably eye fucking him as always. She could hear their whispers and the way their backs straightened as they walked past them. Intending to stake her claim, she wrapped her hands around his forearm and gave them a cheeky smile.

What if they take him away and then she has no one to pay her bills? Not fucking happening.

“Since this mall is your main reason to change our plans, you better shop all you want,” he advised as they walked into the bag section.

“Of course, I’m not going to disappoint you.”

Before he could say another word, she walked forward, heels clicking at each step she took. Elaine’s eyes widened at the sight of the handbag that caught her eyes on the shelf. Making her way toward it, she carefully took it out from the shelf and turned to face Xavier.

“Goodness, it’s so pretty. I’m sure it’s a new edition.” She turned it to the side, appreciating the beauty of the craft. “I’m so in love with this,” she stated.

Xavier looked down at her with a bored expression. He wasn’t a fan of watching women shop. “If you want it, then take it.”

Her face fell into a pitiful look. “I do. It’s a diamond forever and it’s fucking expensive. Worth three hundred thousand dollars.”

She intended to drop the bag as she was sure he wanted to spend such an amount of money on just a bag but before she could place the bag back on the shelf, his words caused her to stop on her track.

“You can have it, doll. This whole shop, you can get it if you want. Just say the word.”

“Really?”

Eyes sparking, she hugged the bag to her chest, kissing its diamond parts before passing it over to Xavier.

“What do I do with it?” He asked, staring at the girlish handbag in confusion.”

“Hold it of course.”

“I have to hold your items while you shop?”

“Isn’t that what husbands do for their wives?”

“And why….”

She got on her tiptoe, kissed him on his cheek, and turned away, her lips riding up into a smile at his unbelieving expression. She couldn’t resist kissing him on the cheek, he was extra handsome at the moment. He wore a blue three-piece suit and his soft hair was styled perfectly. She’d resisted running her hands through it.

Settling her liking on another bag, she handed it over to him, not letting him complain as she kissed him on his cheek again. Over time, his hands became filled with bags and designer items that she shopped for, taking him around the store, the ladies swooning at the sight, some secretly taking photos and videos of them.

Xavier grunted at the attention that he was getting from everyone, even the fucking salespersons were staring at him instead of focusing on doing their jobs. They were staring without a once of shame, the fuck.

“Xavier Xavier, look at these.” He rolled his eyes as Elaine squealed in excitement at the side, her body quickly rolling over to his side to drag him to whatever designer shit that caught her attention.

“Look at these two.” She pointed at a matching diamond green dress and bag that was obviously not her size.

“Not your size.”

“I know,” she lightly hit his arms. “I’m not talking about myself. I heard your mother is a fan of designer dresses and of course bags. I’m getting this for her.”

“How thoughtful of you but I'm not interested in any of these. You can do whatever you please.”

Her lips twitched, eyes glaring at him. “Boring,” she muttered before adding the new dress and bag to Xavier’s already-heaped arms. His displeasure was written all over his face but Elaine wasn’t giving in. Isn’t this what everyone’s husband does for them when they go shopping? It should be normal, right?

But it was funny though. The almighty Xavier Romano carried a heap of designer items in his arms while his wife shopped. The headlines would definitely carry that.

“Oh my, Brother Xav, is that you?”

Their head whipped to the side at the unfamiliar call. Seeing the unfamiliar girl make her way toward Xavier, Elaine frowned. “Who is she?” She asked in a whisper.

Xavier handed the items in his arms to the salesperson behind them, just in time for the girl to run into his arms, locking her hands around his waist.

“Helen,” Xavier acknowledged.

Helen broke away from the hug slowly, her eyes scanning Xavier as if in shock. “Brother Xavier, it’s really you.”

“How have you been, Helen?” With his hands behind his back, he asked.

“As you can see, just shopping every day. You’re in London, I miss you so much.”

“Guess your studies are going well then.”

“Mother is taking care of everything in the shadows so yeah, pretty going well. I even got a title as Oxford queen this year.”

He patted her shoulders in approval as the girl ranted about her accomplishments.

“So not that you’re in London, brother Xavier, are we going to hang out, you know….” Her eyes fell on Elaine who stood beside Xavier, glaring daggers at her. “Who is she?”

“Oh, this is Elaine, my wife. Elaine, this is Helen, a family friend.”

Elaine forced a smile. “Hi, Helen.” They shook hands.

“Nice to meet you, Elaine. I have really heard a lot about you. You’re quite famous, you know.”

Elaine giggled.

“That is not true.”

Just then a blaring sound reverberated in the small space, Xavier fishing his phone out of his pocket and frowning at the caller ID.

“Give me a minute.” He turned away from them, taking a few steps to the other side.

“So, Elaine,” Helen started. “Here for shopping?”

“Obviously.”

“Xavier’s money?”

“Who else’s?”

“Great, we can shop together, right? I’d love to know more about you.”
