Find A Bedroom
“Why did she act so nice?” Elaine looked at the spot where Margaret and her friend sat a few tables from them, her brows furrowed in confusion. From what she knew, Margaret had only been nice to her for like… two times, today included. The woman was known for her sneaky attitude and comments and it came as a shock that she spoke so nicely with her. “I’m confused.”
Xavier leaned away from the chair, pulling his chair to her and getting a hold of her hand that was on the table. “She proposed a truce.”
If there was water in Elaine’s mouth, there was a hundred and one percent chance that she would choke on it at Xavier’s word. “That is not true,” she denied.
“Surprising? I know. I was surprised too.”
Her mouth fell open. “Did she really propose a truce?”
“She did.”
“And what did you say?”
“I accepted.”
Elaine held back her laughter. It was weird even imagining Xavier and his sister acting like every normal sibling out there. It was weird even imagining them together. They were so unalike and she was sure that Margaret would never propose a truce without another intention.
“It’s so weird. You both are weird. By the way,” she looked around the restaurant. “Why haven’t the order been brought yet?”
“I revoked it.”
“But why?” It was then that she knew that their date was going to end up ruined.
He stood up from the chair and helped her up, grabbing her bag with his other hand. “Because we’re leaving. I can’t stand being in the same space as her. She’s snuffing the life out of me with just her presence and it’s suffocating as fuck.”
“But you accepted the truce.”
“That doesn’t mean that I have to be in the same space with her. Let’s go.”
He slowly led her out of the fancy restaurant and to their car that was parked outside, opening the door for her to get in. Once she was settled in and after he walked around to get into the driver’s seat, she wrapped her hands around her chest and turned to him. “How about our date? We were supposed to have a good date here.”
“And she fucking ruined it. More reason to leave her ill presence.”
As they drove through the city, heading back to their house, she looked outside the window at the busy nightlife and as her eyes caught sight of something, she cocked her head to Xavier and requested. “Please stop for a while.”
He didn’t ask for a reason and simply just stopped the car at the roadside. “Want something? I was going to make dinner when we got home.”
“There is no need. We could have our date, somehow.”
“How?”
“At the streets. It’s been so long.” She held his arms and battled her eyelid at him as if to convince him to give in to her request. “It’s been long since we took a stroll in the city. How about a little tour and ice cream? I know a good spot around here.”
He was unable to pull his gaze off her face and pushed a few strands of her hair backward. He then realized that he didn’t hear a single word that she said. “What you said, doll?”
“You weren’t paying attention.” She whined.
“I haven’t told you how pretty you look. I can barely concentrate.”
She rolled her eyes and hit his hands off her face. “I said that we could have our date in the streets. We could get some ice cream along the road.”
“We both know how dangerous that is, doll.”
“Well, it’s safe here. It’s not like we’re been trailed.”
He wanted to refuse her and insist that they go home and have their date to themselves but how could he bring himself to refuse her request when she peered at him like a damn two days old puppy. There was no way in hell. She wasn’t giving him a chance.
“Fine.”
She didn’t wait for him to finish his words before she threw herself out of the car and waited for him to get out. Once he was out, she wrapped her hands around his arm and began to lead him to the other side of the road where there was an ice cream booth.
“Stay here. I’ll get us a cone each.”
She swooped into the crowd and in no time returned with two ice cream cones in her hands, her lips stretched into a smile as she handed him one. “Your favorite, Mint.”
As Elaine walked through the busy street with her husband hand in hand, she savored the taste of her ice cream, her eyes sparking with delight with each swipe of the ice cream that she took.
She giggled every time Xavier protected her from either the desperate seller who wanted to sell things to them or the barrows since they were close to the local market.
“You know, I used to live walking around at night with my sisters when I was younger.” She began, feeding on the memory of years ago. “We would take two cones of different flavors of ice cream each. I’ve never seen anyone who loves ice cream as much as I do.”
Xavier chuckled. “Want an ice cream shop? You can deal in both fashion and ice cream. Sounds promising.”
“Of course not. I don’t trust myself with handling an ice cream shop.”
“You’ll do a good job at it.”
Before she could answer him or take the conversation to a different level, her eyes caught sight of something and she quickly tugged on Xavier’s arms and pointed at the store with glass doors. “Xav, look.”
He cocked his head to the side to stare at what she pointed at him. “A bookstore,” he pointed out the obvious.
“It says that we get a book free with every three purchases that we make. It’s a promo.”
“Now, you want books?”
She peered up at him again and nodded. It was like she realized how much her battling her eyes at him gets him to do her bidding. “Let’s shop for books.”
“And what do I get in return?”
It could be an opportunity to get something from her, right?”
“What do you want in return?”
He raised a brow, his eyes falling on her red pouty lips. She scoffed and twitched her lips before stretching forward to peck him on her lips. “Happy now?” She placed her hand on her waist.
“Nah.”
She stretched forward again and pressed her lips against his, for a longer time than the last. Before she could pull away, he tangled his fingers into her hair and deepened the kiss, his tongue slipping into her mouth in the dead of the night. They didn’t bother that their ice cream cones already melted and fell on the floor or that they attracted rolling eyes from the people who passed by them.
Having had enough of her, he pulled away and swiped his tongue through the corners of his lips. “I’ll take that as a bonus.”
“Our ice cream.” She looked like she was about to cry.”
“I can get you as much ice cream as you want. Don’t bother about it. Back to us, you didn’t bother to hear me say what I want?”
Her eyes grew wide. “What? Wasn’t that what you wanted?”
As he shook his head, she felt the urge, the desire to smack his arms and that was exactly what she did. How dare he deceive her. “You cunning man. You deceived me.”
“I didn’t. You wanted to kiss me.”
“That’s not true. You gave me the sign that you wanted it.”
“By staring at my wife’s lips.” His thumb fell on her lips and traced the soft flesh. He leaned in. “These berry lips looked fuckable.”
“Xav…” she felt the butterflies in her stomach erupt in full force. “We’re in the middle of the street.”
He said nothing and leaned in so that their faces were the same height. With his fingers tangling at the back of her neck, he pressed his lips against hers again and they resumed their kissing, the smack sound of their kiss reverberating around them. It was like the world stopped for a while, leaving them both alone in the world. Everything else faded.
“Find a bedroom!!! The fuck.” They broke away from each other when someone screamed from behind them, attracting more eyes from the people. Everyone's gazes turned to them in a way that made Elaine pray that the ground open and take her to wherever she didn’t care about.
“Xav,” she whined. “This is all your fucking fault. Everyone watched.” And perhaps even made videos of them. They might be thinking that they were a newly wedded couple who couldn’t keep their hands to themselves.
But even with the eyes on them, his hold on her waist was still firm and he whispered slowly into her ears. “If you don’t come with me back to the car this instant, I won’t hesitate to continue fully what we started.” He pressed her against himself, his hard rod evidence of his words. “You can see that I mean every single word.”
