Seduce Him
He stopped.
“Wh…where are you going?”
“Go to bed.”
Before she could say anything or try to convince him to return to her side, he stormed out of the room, banging the door close hard on his way out. She flinched at the intensity of the bang, her eyes closing. Clutching the cover to herself she blinked back the tears that threatened to stream down her cheek already, her head trying to figure out what had just occurred. One moment they were having an intense moment and the next he stormed out angry.
How did things change all of a sudden? Her eyes fell on the phone at her side and anger overtook her. She was right when she told Xavier that the man was a good person but what she didn’t understand was the reason he was giving her a call. Perhaps it was an emergency but she couldn’t help the anger that stood efficiently in her chest.
To stop herself from answering the call and giving him a piece of her mind for ruining her night, she threw the phone to the other side of the bed and lay on her back, staring at the ceiling. She didn’t bother to wear her clothes back with the hope that Xavier would return but she was wrong. Seconds turned into minutes and minutes finally turned into hours yet she could not close her eyes. The thought of her angry husband overtook her.
At the realization that Xavier might not be returning after a good three hours, she could no longer help the tears that streamed freely from the corners of her eyes. Elaine gripped a pilot to her chest, her tears streaming into it, wetting the soft material. And so, she stayed all throughout the night waiting for him until her eyes finally fell heavy and she became too tired to fight the sleep.

“So what you’re trying to tell me is that you’re back with Xavier?” Elaine rolled her eyes at the obvious question that she’d been receiving from Beth since she walked into her office more than five hours ago. She sighed, dropping her pen on the table and focusing her attention on Beth who sat on her table.
“I’ve told you that countless times already.”
“What? I’m still trying to register it in my head. I thought you two are done for real. I’m so happy for you.”
“You’re not being of any help, Beth. Why aren’t you talking about the main issue I told you about? In fact, forget it. I shouldn’t have told you in the first place,” massaging her forehead with her fingers, she complained.
“That is trivial. What I’m saying is more important.”
“I told you he’s angry. Because that guy called at night when we…” She couldn’t even bring herself to say the embarrassing words. Like she’d predicted the previous night, Xavier didn’t return. Not even this morning before she left for work. Only when she found him absent when she woke up did she realize that truly, it was no trivial issue.
Beth sighed. “So what you’re trying to say is that this new guy called while you both were…” She clicked both of her forefingers together to demonstrate what she meant. “And your darling husband left and hasn’t returned since then?”
“You’re right. Do you think he’s going to return?”
“Don’t be dumb, of course he will. It’s his house. But it’s up to you if you want him to return sooner.”
“Of course I do. What do you think I should do then?” She picked the pen from her table and bit the cap between her teeth in nervousness, her eyes staring at Beth for a little bit of hope she knew she had in her. Her friend seemed to always have a solution for every situation.
“You want advice?”
“I would come to you if I don’t.”
“It’s easy. You have to persuade him and if possible, seduce him home. I think he’s jealous. Men also need validation just like us women.”
“Jealous?”
Beth nodded. Elaine shook her head in disagreement. She didn’t think that Xavier was jealous of George. Perhaps there was something else? She knew him. Xavier was jealous of no one. He was a man with pride, one who knew how breathtaking he was and how he could command the world with just a word. That kind of man barely gets jealous. Or perhaps she was mistaken?
“He might be. For all I care, who wouldn’t be jealous of a random person calling their partner at such a time? I’ll definitely be jealous too. What he wants right now, is for you to convince him that you love him and that there is nothing that can come between you both. You have to convince him that he’s the only one for you and that you’re his. That way, there’ll be no fights and all.”
Elaine stared into space, carefully registering each and every word of Beth in her head. “So I have to persuade him? Like, plead?” That part was quite blurry to her. Does she have to plead with Xavier on her knees before he returns home? She needed him back and the silence was killing her already.
She’s even texted him a thousand times already with no single reply from him.
“It doesn’t require you to plead. You just have to assure him, okay?” Beth pulled away from the table. “You better go get your man, girl. He’s hot. You don’t want those girls flocking around him, do you?”
Elaine sprang up from her chair immediately. “Of course not.” The thought of Xavier with another girl caused her great unease. “Of course not!”
“Then go get him.”
Beth began making her way out of the office but not without grabbing the box of chocolate on the table. She paused. “Don’t go looking like that. You look like shit. And besides, get a box of chocolate for him. Sweets for love. Good luck.”
