Carry The Cross

When Elaine finally regained consciousness, the first sensation to assail her was the inability to move. Her eyes pried open, struggling to make sense of the dimly lit room. Panic coursed through her veins as she realized the binding coils of rope around her wrists and ankles.

Her heart pounded in her heart so loud that she feared it would burst open. Where was she? How did she get here? The last she remembered was the bulky men and how they'd forced them out of the car. Who were they and what they wanted was a question that hit her several times.

She knew she was in deep trouble as the ropes around her wrists and ankles told her so. If she was by herself, perhaps it would have been less of a trouble but goodness. There was a baby in her womb, a life that was her flesh and blood and she couldn’t help but be scared for it. She needed to protect it with everything in her.

A sudden groan caused Anna to look at the side where the noise came from and when she saw her father tied in the same position as her, her eyes almost popped out of their sockets. “Father,” she called. “Are you alright?” Her words were laced with concern.

“Fuck, you’re useless, Elaine. Look what you caused.”

She traced his gaze to the blood stain on his ankle. It seems that his rope was tied way too tight.

“You’ll be fine, okay? I’ll get us out of here,” she persuaded only to watch her father throw his head backward and burst into a fit of laughter, his laughter reverberating in the tiny room that they were in.

“And how do you intend on doing that? I’d love to know, dear daughter. You put us in this position, you know that right?”

“I accept responsibility.”

“Of course you will.” He looked away from her and muttered. “More reasons why y’all should be abandoned. Especially you.”

Elaine shook her head in denial, telling herself that her father didn’t just blurt out those words that her ears had picked, that her father didn’t say those mean words after seeing her again after years of separation.

Right then, she realized that he didn’t even hug her or was as ecstatic as her when she found him in Xavier’s basement.

Before she could ponder further on the words and actions of her father, the metal door of the tiny room flung open, and two bulky men walked in. The frontman was dressed in a black cardigan and black pants, his hair was combed backward with a silver earring sparking on his ears. Elaine couldn’t help but admit that he was a beautiful sight to behold.

He looked like he was in his mid or early thirties and from the look of things, Elaine was sure that the guy behind him was his bodyguard.

The first man stepped forward to Albeit and smirked at him. At that moment, his hands fell on his cheek, the sting of his slap echoing in the air over and over again. His slap was followed by a series of punches on Albeit's face that made Elaine cry out.

“Please stop. Please don’t do that,” she cried with every second that passed but the man was only determined to do whatever he wanted and only stopped when her father’s saliva got replaced with blood.

“Albeit Rock,” the man’s deep voice called. All this while, the smirk on his lips remained.

Albeit weakly raised his head to stare at him.

The man continued. “I finally caught you, you motherfucker. You think you can run so far?”

Albeit shook his head in denial. He opened his mouth to say something but the only thing that came out of his mouth was the cry of pain.

“You think I’ve forgotten about you and so you decided to show out of your hideout, right? Fucking pathetic bastard. Where is it?”

“I…I don’t know, I swear.”

“You don’t? That’s such a shame, considering that I was hoping you’d say what I wanted this firm. But since you won’t, who’s this girl beside you? Your new fuck toy?”

Elaine shivered at the bite of the man’s words. She found herself craving the warmth that Xavier usually gave and somehow, she regretted not listening to him. There were dangers outside.

The other bulky man in the room stepped forward and whispered something into the man’s ears that made him grin. The woman was unreadable and she couldn’t guess what he was thinking about and what his next move would be.

“Interesting.” He broke the silence between them. “This is going to be more fun than I thought. Father and daughter duo, is it?” He looked her over from her hair downward, his gaze piercing and uncomfortable. “Pregnant,” he stated the obvious.

“Too bad this baby might not see the light of day.”

Elaine’s eyes widened. “Don’t you dare say such things about my baby. You’re not allowed. It’s definitely going to see the brightness of the day,” she yelled. “Who are you and what do you want from us.”

“Instead of being a bitch about it, why don’t you ask your father. I guess he has a suitable reply for you.”

She cocked her head to the side to stare at her after but just like before, he threw his head away, avoiding her gaze.

Turning to Albiet, the man continued. “Make your decision in the next thirty minutes. If you’ll give me what we all want, I’ll let her go. But if you don’t?” A cocky smile played out on his lips. “Your daughter will have to carry the cross. With your pretty grand baby in her womb.”

At that, he swiveled around and marched out of the room with his guard behind him.

“Father, what is it that they want?” She demanded.

“Mind your fucking business, okay?” He yelled. “You’re the one who put us in this situation so the least you can do is keep fucking shut!”
