Truly Pregnant
Xavier marched toward her, patting her back and holding her hair up while she puked her guts out, the hand on her back soothing her. With blurry eyes, she spat on the flowers and stood up, her head hazy, legs shaky.
Xavier turned her so that they stood face-to-face with each other. “What’s wrong with you?” He placed his hand on her forehead. “Your temperature is normal. Are you okay?”
“I…I ruined the flower,” she managed to say.
“Forget about them. Rigel would ask someone to take care of it. How are you feeling?”
She leaned into his arms, unable to keep herself standing any further. “My head hurts and my sight is blurry.”
“Do I call the doctor?”
She shook her head. “I believe it’s just a food reaction. Maybe from the popcorn I took at the movie.”
“You sure?”
“I’ll be fine.”
Xavier looked unconvinced at her words but he still nodded before bending to scoop her off her feet, carrying her in his arms, and striding into the hotel. Elaine wrapped her arms around him tightly, her head on his shoulder, breath fanning his neck. She felt lightheaded like she wasn’t in her own body. She couldn’t feel herself anymore.
He carried her past the watchful eyes of the hotel staff members. They stopped whatever they were doing to stare at them, swooning at the sight. What was romantic about her almost-dead state?
Finally, they got to the penthouse. He managed to unlock the door even with her in his arms and carried her directly to the bathroom. Letting her down on the sink, he held her hair up while she washed her face and mouth. “You good?” He asked.
Elaine nodded, holding onto the sink for her dear life. “I’m hungry.”
“What would you like?”
“Noodles.”
“Done. I’ll leave you to freshen up.” Other times, he would have complained about how inedible noodles were and how she should stop eating junk food.
After he left the bathroom, Elaine peeled her clothes off slowly and when she was done, she made her way into the shower room, turning it on and letting the shower cascade over her, her head filled with uneven thoughts. It wasn’t the first time she was having the symptoms. The puking, the lightheadedness. Lord, she hoped that it wasn’t what she was thinking.
What if she was pregnant? She had sex with Xavier that day, without protection. Goodness gracious, why was she only thinking about it just now? She’d totally forgotten to take a plan b and he didn’t use a condom either. Was she doomed?
As the water fell over her, she brought her hands down to her belly, her heart beating wildly at the possibility.
‘No, that can’t be.’ She shook it off. They only did it once. She can’t possibly be pregnant, right? She couldn’t have a baby at the time of her life and she was sure Xavier wouldn’t want one too. Right! She was just overreacting and like she told Xavier, it must be from the snack they ate at the movies. Nothing more.
After scrubbing her body and the thought off her, she stepped into the adjoined walk-in closet and put on silk pajamas before tying her hair to a tight bun and getting out of the closet into the room.
She looked around for him and when she found him nowhere in the room, Elaine traced the scent to the kitchen, her stomach rumbling in excitement at the delicious smell.
“Come sit,” Xavier said without even looking behind him. Nice. He was good at everything.
He drew out a chair for her from beneath the island table, holding it until she sat down. “You okay?”
“Yes.”
“The noodles will be ready soon.”
She nodded. How was he so gentle with her now? If he keeps up with it, she won’t be able to help the thumping of her heart every single time. Sometimes, he was super gentle with her, and others, he acted like they were enemies.
With his broad back to her, he continued stirring the noodles, pouring in the ingredients and filling her nose with its delicious aroma. She couldn’t help but fixate her sight on him. Ha was a sight to behold. The almighty Xavier Romano making noodles for her was a sight to behold.
“It’s ready.”
He poured the noodles into a bowl and placed it in front of her before handing her a fork. Immediately, Elaine dug in, eating the meal like a starved animal, ignoring the eyes of the man before her. His brows were raised as he stared at her devour the noodles and in no time, the bowl stood staring at him, empty like the day it was bought.
“I’m filled.”
A chuckle escaped his lips. “Good for you. Come on, I’ll help you to bed. It’s late already.”
“So soon?”
“We’ll be leaving tomorrow so you have to sleep all you can. We can’t have you falling sick again.”
Her lips twitched. “I want to watch the sunrise tomorrow, is that possible? I think the view would be perfect from here.”
“Done.”
“Really?”
“Yes, if you be a good girl and go to bed now.”
Nodding, she stood up from the chair, and with his hand on her wrist, he led her to the room.
“It’s cold,” she commented, rubbing her arms.
“I’ll hold you to sleep and warm you up.”
This time, she didn’t act like she didn’t want it. She wanted it, she wanted to feel him around her, she wanted to bury her head in his chest.
They got into the bed together and as he said, he held her waist and brought her closer to him, his body enveloping her, a sense of safety washing over her.
If she was truly pregnant, she didn’t want to know how he would react. Will he still hold her this close, or he’ll ask her to take it out?
‘Stop thinking about it, Elaine. You’re not pregnant.’ She wished so.
“Sleep, doll.”
