Ria’s Thirst For Real Love
“Please eat something, Ria. You didn’t have anything all throughout yesterday and this morning,” Iris said, her voice laced with concern as she placed a plate of rice and meat sauce before Ria on the bed. She gazed at her disheveled friend in concern and noticed how tired and pitiful she looked. Her hair was let out to cascade over her back and shoulders, her eyes were dark and puffy and she looked straight out of a horror movie. “It’s past noon now,” she stated the obvious and sat before her friend.
It was one of the few times where she’d seen Ria so unlike herself, sad and on the verge of giving up on life. The Ria that she knew was a fighter, one who wouldn’t let anyone ruin her mood or cause her to give up. It was the other way around almost all the time.
“I don’t want to eat anything. I told you before, Iris.”
“Please don’t do that, you’re breaking my heart. I channeled a lot of energy into making this food.”
“I have no appetite.”
“Just eat till you can’t. Even if it’s a spoon or two, it’s fine. Do you know What will happen if you faint from not eating? You might die.”
“It’s just starvation. I’m not going to die.” Ria turned away from her, facing the other side of the room. But Iris was persistent this time. She carried the food tray, walked around the bed, and sat beside Ria again, watching her face-to-face.
“You can’t hide from me and you know that. I’m making you eat whether or not you like it. You’ve been like this ever since your sister. You’re even refusing to say what she said to you. Did she say anything mean? Do you want me to deal with her? I can send the girls if you want. Fuck that, I’ll do it now.”
At her words, Ria immediately sat up on the bed again and grabbed Iris’s arm, pulling her forward. “Don’t you dare even think of harming a hair on my sister’s body?”
“What has gotten over you?”
“Don’t touch her. It’s my battle. I’ll fight it myself.”
“I get it, you can now let go of me.” Realizing what she was doing to the only friend that she had, she pulled away and leaned back on the bed, combing her fingers through her hair in frustration. “What exactly is wrong with you, Ria? Tell me what she told you.”
“Fine, I’ll say it. Elaine said that she had no beef with me and that I could come back to the family and they would accept me with open arms. Do you believe that?” She still couldn’t believe that after everything she did to Elaine, she was still kind enough to invite her home. Was it a pretense? Was Elaine simply just setting her up? She needed to find out.
“Is that all?”
“She said that we’re still family and…and she never hated me or saw me as inferior to her. She said a whole lot of things that I can’t even remember. But if you ask me, I’d say that she sounded really convincing about me returning to the house.”
Iris also couldn’t believe the words that she was hearing from Ria. She’d thought that after everything that had happened in the life of Ria and Elaine, they would find it so damn hard to accept her back into the family but it looked like they were very nice people all along, completely different from what Ria had fed her.
“I’d suggest that you return home, Ria. Your sisters are so nice to accept you back after everything and you should grab the chance with everything in you. Grab it like your life depends on it.”
“Won’t they treat me differently?”
“That is why you’re family. One thing about family is that they don’t care if you’ve been away for years. When you’re back, they speak like normal with the insults and hits included.”
“You’re right. She paid my debt too. That means that she cared a lot for me.”
“I think Elaine is a nice person from everything heard in this case. You should go to her and accept her offer before it’s too late.”
“You think so?”
“I know so.”
“Then, I should leave already.”
She threw the blanket off her body, threw the hoodie on the table on her, and began making her way to the door, not bothering to look in the mirror or fix her hair. All she cared about was accepting Elaine’s offer at the moment and apologizing for everything she did right from the first day when she accused Elaine of bullying and went as far as to steal her boyfriend.
Her evil plans had backfired and Jimmy turned out to be the worst man to exist on earth to her. He was the worst mistake of her life and she cursed the day she ever set her eyes on him and began the jealousy that led to the breaking up of the sisters. If she could go back in time, she would definitely correct every mistake of hers and hold Elaine tighter to herself.
“Your food, Ria,” Iris’s voice rang out but by then, Ria was already far gone. She got into Iris’s truck so as not to bring in cameras to herself and she began to make her way to Elaine’s office. To break the news, to tell her the news that she finally decided to return to the family and apologize to everyone for everything, for her bad behavior, and for how she treated everyone without respect. She deserves to be punished.
She sped through the other cars, in a desperate attempt to get to the company sooner and finally settle things with her sisters. She imagined them going back to the way that they were before. The most talked about sisters in the city known for their closeness and orderliness even though they had more fights than peace. She imagined them going on games and rage rooms together just as they’d planned and the thought alone was enough to make her eyes water.
She wanted real love now!
