Rather Cry In A Private Jet
“Elaine, when are you returning to the company? We missed you a lot. Everyone at the company is going crazy talking about you, you know,” Beth whined, sipping from her milkshake afterward.
They were currently at a restaurant just a few blocks away from the hospital and she’d shown up immediately Elaine called.
“By the way, when did you return from your lovey lovey honeymoon?”
“Lovey lovey, my foot. An hour ago,” Elaine replied, staring at the chocolate milkshake before her, uninterested. She was so uninterested in the goddamn thing. She was uninterested in anything concerning life.
“An hour ago?” Beth almost spat the milkshake she just took a sip from. “And you’re here? Shouldn’t you be taking a nap or something?”
“Uninterested. How’s the company going.”
Beth made a whining sound, hands capturing Elaine's shaky hands on the table. “You should resume work soon. I’m tired of going to work and not seeing you there. It has been so boringggg.” She laid an emphasis on ‘boring.’ Without you, the company feels like a graveyard. Everyone is just too serious. And your husband?” A smile rode up her lips. “Your husband is a total sweetheart.”
“I doubt so.”
“He made sure that the staff took their work seriously and didn't dare slack off at their jobs. His subordinates are everywhere. Everything has been going smoothly like you didn’t take a break.”
“That’s relieving.”
“Tell me, Elaine. How was your honeymoon? I’m dying to hear the details.”
“Wasn’t that bad? Here, I got this for you.” Unexcitedly, Elaine took hold of the channel shopping bags at her side and handed them over to the stunned Beth.
Beth’s mouth fell open as she accepted the gifts, looking into the bags to see what they were. “Oh my, this is a limited edition piece. I’m so exciteddddd, Elaine, I love you so much.” She dangled her feet happily, screaming in excitement.
“Yeah.”
“He’s a ducking billionaire. Make sure you never leave him. Do whatever he says, oh my.”
“What kind of friend are you? What if he’s abusive, will you still ask me to stay?”
“Whatever, just stay with him. Didn’t you hear the saying, ‘I’d rather cry in a private jet than smile at a convenience store desk?’ Not everyone has a billionaire by their side. Ela? Finally, she noticed her friend’s gloomy look. “What’s wrong? Why are you not happy?”
Elaine massaged her forehead.
“Who would be happy in my situation? I want to see that person and hand him Xavier’s black card for a day.”
“What situation are you in now? I would have said me to your question but no. Whenever you’re in trouble, it’s pretty bad.”
“See?”
Letting go of her hands, Beth took another sip from her milkshake and hummed at the taste. “What is that issue you have that Xavier Romano can’t solve.”
“He’s not God.”
“Right.”
“I have a friend,” Elaine blurted out.
“A friend?” Beth scoffed. “Are you cheating on me now? Let’s hear what happened to your friend?”
“You are to give your honest opinion on this. I have a friend and she’s pregnant right now…”
“She’s pregnant, so what? You shouldn’t put your thoughts on people’s love life, Ela.”
Elaine smacked the table angrily. “Let me speak without interruption.”
By now, they were drawing attention to themselves. Taking a deep breath to calm herself, she continued. She’s pregnant after only sleeping with her husband once. That was before they got married, by the way.”
“And?”
“And she doesn’t know what to do with the pregnancy.”
“Tell her husband of course. They’re married, they will live happily ever after.”
“The thing is, they’re not married like married. Her husband doesn’t love her, she doesn’t love him either and it was just accidental. They both don’t want a child yet.” She was speaking for Xavier but she was sure it was the case. He didn’t want a child.
“If they don’t love each other, why are they married?”
“For benefits, of course, don’t be so dumb.” She sighed. Maybe calling Beth was a mistake after all. She was even more stressed. “Their marriage was for the benefit of both sides. It wasn’t based on love.”
As if just getting all that she was saying, Beth nodded. “Now I understand. That’s pretty tricky. He might blame her for it or worse ask her to abort the baby, you know. Well, I’ll suggest that she tell him and try to convince him. We women have a great way of making our men do what we want. She should seduce him and try to make him see reasons, simple.”
“You think that would work?”
“I’m sure it’s going to work.”
Beth stared at her suspiciously as she remained deep in thought. “Who is this friend of yours, anyway.”
“It…it’s just a friend.”
“Her name?”
“I think it’s Mia.”
“Elaine?” Beth called in a loud voice.
“What?”
“You’re pregnant??” Her voice traveled around the whole restaurant and Elaine had to hide her face with her bag as heads turned in their direction.
“Ahh, keep your voice down,” she whispered to her.
Clearing her throat, Beth asked again, this time in a low voice as Elaine asked.
“You’re really pregnant? Like pregnant?”
“Stop saying it frequently. I’m pissed.”
“Omo.”
“I didn’t plan for it, I swear. I don’t even want it.”
“I’m finding this hard to believe. What are you going to do now?”
“I don’t know, abort it?” She’d thought of the possibility on her way. Quietly abort the baby and continue with her life like nothing happened.
“What? Are you crazy?”
“I can’t have it,” she gritted her teeth. “I and Xavier are not in such a relationship.”
“Still, you should tell him. He doesn’t look like someone who’ll abandon his child or kill it,” Beth argued.
“Trust me, it’s not written on anyone’s forehead.”
“Tell him about his baby, start a romance with him and live happily ever after. Besides, everyone knows how pregnancy tends to make love bloom between couples. It increases the spark.”
Elaine facepalmed herself. Goodness gracious.
