I'll Hunt You For Life
“Even hearing your voice is enough to make me so angry. Your face would do worse,” Elaine lied into the phone. Right! It was a big fat lie. Just like him, she was also dying to see his face even though it was only just a few hours of separation that they’d had. But she needed to play hard to get and make him beg first after daring to send her away like she was a goddamn child who couldn’t protect herself. It was depressing as fuck.
“That fucking hurts, wife. You sure you don’t miss your husband?”
“Not even a bit. Well, I’ve finally decided to have fun here and leave you to do all the work. My win, your loss.”
“And I’m excited at your win. Be a good girl and have enough fun as you can get because when you’re back, you wouldn’t be able to leave the fucking bed to have anymore…”
He was cut off when the call all of a sudden was switched to video call by Elaine and since he had his phone set for video call, it went through immediately. Elaine's eyes fell on the man seated on his office chair, dressed casually. She could only see his upper body which was covered in a thick polo but she knew he had Jean covering his lower body. It was unlike her husband to dress so casually to work.
Pushing her face to the phone as if wanting to disappear into it, she gritted her teeth before asking. “You won’t really tell me what exactly is going on?”
“Doll.”
“I just want to know.” Her voice morphed into one of care and worry. “Is it dangerous for you? See you in trouble? Will you be safe? We’re just starting our marriage so you can’t die yet, you know that, right?”
Her brows furrowed even more when she heard his laughter reverberate through the whole room. His head was thrown backward as he let out a loud laughter. “Definitely, someone is going to die. But not to worry, love. That someone isn’t going to be me, I assure you. You hang in there for a while, okay?”
“If you get even a single scratch on your body, I’ll hunt you for life.”
After she said the words, she closed her hand around her mouth as she yawned, her eyes slowly closing as sleep started to envelop her. She settled the right way on the bed and laid her head on the pillow, her eyes on her husband through the phone.
“You’re tired?”
“En. It was a long journey.”
“Don’t sleep yet. You didn’t have anything to eat.”
“I ate a while ago. I’ll just sleep for a while and when I wake up again, I’ll have my bath and find something else or eat.” She yawned again. “Don’t give me a call when I wake up. I’m still angry at you.”
“I’ll make it up to you. Kisses, alright?”
Unlike what Elaine had planned, she didn’t wake up until the next day. As the light from the window seeped into the room, her eyes fluttered open to meet with the unfamiliar ceiling. She sat up on the bed with a groan and stretched her limbs. “Goodness! I must have been so tired.”
She pushed her hair backward and fanned her face with her palm. With a lazy sigh, she threw the covers off her and stood up from the bed, beginning to make her way to the bathroom.
After a while of scrubbing her body off the previous day’s stress, she stepped out of the bathroom, her eyes falling on Beth who sat on her bed.
“When did you come in?” She asked, fastening the rope of her robe. “I didn’t hear.”
“Just a while ago. Anyway, how was your first night in this pretty bedroom? You must’ve slept like a baby, right? Because I did.”
“Quite well. I can’t complain.”
“You mustn’t complain.”
As Elaine walked to her suitcase, placed it on the floor, and opened it, Beth fished out a paper from her and raised it in the air. “Look, Elaine.”
Elaine turned her head to the side and frowned at the white paper on Beth’s hand. “What is that? What is written in it.”
“I drew out a plan for every day that we’ll be here. Where we’d go, fun places. I wrote them down.”
“Wow, you’re so prepared.” She must’ve underestimated Beth’s excitement for the trip. She looked overly excited about their stay in Paris.
“I am. Look girl, we in Paris and so we have to live in every moment of it, okay? There must be no regret. And you, Elaine, must cooperate.”
“Yes, queen.” She faked a bow and they both burst into laughter. Grabbing a brown dress, she threw the robe off her body and threw the dress on, squealing at how perfectly it fitted her and hugged her curves. It was her first time wearing the dress.
“You look perfect in that dress. Look at that bum.”
“Thank you.”
“Wanna know where I planned for today?”
“It has to start today? I mean, we can go tomorrow, you know.”
“And before you know it, vacation will be over.”
“Fine! Where do we have to go?”
“To the beach. I found a very nice place so you don’t have to worry.”
“Beach? I didn’t come with any beachwear.”
“That’s why you have me as your bestie and personal assistant. I always have things ready.”
Beth pulled out a box beside her, one that Elaine only just realized was there. Beth placed the box on the bed and slowly untied the ribbon, gently opening it to reveal the pairs of bikinis.
At the sight of the different shades and designs of the bikinis, Elaine burst into laughter, staring at the box in disbelief. “You must be kidding me, girl. Who’s going to wear something so slutty, huh?” That’ll flaunt our butt to the whole world, girl.” Her laughter continued. “You’re unbelievable.”
