Meeting Margaret 1
At exactly lunchtime, Elaine rose from her chair, grabbed her bag, and headed out of the office. She walked to Beth’s desk. “I should probably leave now, right? Don’t worry about me. I’ll be back even before you know it.”
Beth slammed a file on the table. “I really think this is a bad idea, Elaine. Your husband is going to be so angry if he finds out that you went ahead to see his sister without his permission. Don’t let your curiosity take over.”
“She sounded like it was really urgent. Fine, I’ll go there and if she says things that make no sense, I’ll leave immediately. Don’t worry about me, okay?” She blew Beth a kiss before swiveling around to walk into the elevator.
“Be careful.”
“Thanks, girl.”
Soon enough, she got to the last floor and strode out of the building, making her way to her car. She got into the car, strapped in her seatbelt, and let the car roll out of the company.
She turned on music, singing along to the sound as she made her way to the location where Margaret had texted her previously. It was a cafe several blocks away from her workplace. Just a few meters away from the cafe, her car came to an abrupt stop at the side of the road. She slowly unhooked her seatbelt and got out of the car, walking around it in search of what went wrong with it.
“What’s with you now?” She placed a hand on her waist and groaned. She was in the middle of nowhere and all her car could do was break down at the worst place. Letting out a frustrated sigh, she opened the hood of the car, coughing loudly at the smoke that got out of it. What was wrong with it? What was she going to do?
She looked around her for help but apart from the cars that sped past her, there was no one else around. And she knew nothing about mending cars or finding out what the hell was wrong. She walked back to the car and fished her phone out of her bag, deciding to call someone for help. But before she could dial Beth’s number and ask for help, a black Rolls Royce pulled up in front of her car and a tall figure stepped out, walking in her direction. She frowned.
Elaine’s eyes glistened as they caught sight of who it was. The man with his hands dipped in his pocket stepped toward her, stopping once he stood before her.
“George,” she exclaimed, excited at the help from the heavens. “It’s you.”
“Of course. How have you been, Elaine?” He rested on her car, crossing his legs in a sexy way.
“I’ve been okay. I’m so sorry I was unable to pick up your call that night. You know, my husband…”
“It’s fine, I understand. Besides, it was a mistake. I mistook your name for another Elaine in my contact list. Forgive me.”
“Of course. I have nothing against that. It’s good to see you again, George.”
“The pleasure is mine. What are you doing here anyway? Did something happen to your car? I was passing when I noticed you at the side of the road.”
She purred out a ball of Air. It was the second time they were meeting and for the second time, he met her when she was in another mess. Truly, he was an angel sent from the heavens. “It’s as you see it. I was driving and all of a sudden, the car stopped. I'm still trying to figure out the reason though.”
“I’ll help.”
He walked to the hood of the car and looked into it, closing his nose from the smoke that came from the car. “A minute.” With that being said, he made his way back to his car and returned with a bottle of water. She folded her hands around her chest and watched as he fixed her car like an expert. Once he was done, he dusted his palm and smiled at her. “All done. You can start it now.”
“Really?”
“See for yourself.”
She raced to her car, sat down, and started the car, a gasp escaping her lips as the car started perfectly like nothing had been wrong with it a few minutes ago. She stepped back down from the car and walked up to him. “This is such a talent, George, or is it not? Because your hands are skilled in this field of work. It started immediately.”
George shrugged, throwing the empty cab of water at the side of the road and Elaine didn’t bother to scold him for littering the city and breaking one of its laws. She was damn too excited about George’s work on her car.
“Talent? It’s a skill that comes from having a car, Elaine.”
“That is not correct. I have a car and I don’t know these things.”
“That’s because you don’t want to learn these basic things. Once you learn, it will be easier to fix your car all by yourself instead of calling a professional that would charge you way more than your expectations.”
“You’re right. My mechanic is beginning to charge too much for a car upkeep. I’ll look for a way and do these things that you suggested.”
Passing him as a grateful look, she looked at the time on her watch. Realizing that she was running late for her meeting with Magaret, she spoke. “Thank you so much for your help. It’s a shame that the second time that we met, you helped me again. I promise I’ll repay this kindness someday. For now, I have to leave. I hope you don’t
Kind.”
“Of course not. It’s a pleasure spending this little time with you.”
“Bye George.”
She swiveled around and walked back into her car, immediately driving away from George, and heading to the Cafe where Margaret was already waiting for her. She knew that their meeting was definitely going to be held when she heard a reminder text from Margaret.
