Let Me See Elaine

Ria didn’t waste another minute before throwing herself out of the truck as she got to Elaine’s company. She held onto the small purse that she’d grabbed on her way out of Iris’s house and began to make her way into the building, her legs shaky from her extremely low confidence at the moment.

She was so unlike herself. She was usually the most confident at the table, the most talked about, and the most popular. But here she was today, dreading the thought of meeting with her sister and apologizing to her for everything, dreading the thought of entering into the company after her betrayal.

After what happened that time, she’d never stepped foot so deep into the company again and goddamn, she regretted ever framing Elaine for bullying and stealing her fiancé. She regretted everything. The employees and everyone in the company were so good to her, they treated her like family and she had her peace of mind intact when she worked with Elaine.

Until she let her jealousy take over her. Her quest to be just like Elaine. Well, she wanted that family back and this time, she would hold onto it with everything in her. As she walked past the employees, she ignored their judging gaze on her and walked past them, intending to walk into the elevator that led to the top floor but she got stopped by a security guard.

“You have been prohibited from this company, Madam Ria.”

She let out a sigh. “It’s okay, Joel. Elaine already gave me entrance. We’ve settled our differences and I'm here for peace. Besides, you can stop calling me Madam Ria. We’re still old acquaintances, right? I’d appreciate it if you just called me Ria.”

“What?” The muscular man stared at her like she’d just grown two heads. Perhaps she did? Because the Ria that he knew would never speak to him so casually. She normally spoke like she was the boss and demanded respect here and there. Hearing her speak to him in such a casual manner came as a shock to him.

“I don’t understand what you’re saying, Miss.”

“I said that my sister and I had already settled our differences.”

“You did?” She even repeated her words twice to him. So unlike her.

“Yes. Can you let me in? You don’t want her to be angry when she finds out that you threw me out.”

Immediately, he stepped out of her way and watched as she disappeared into the elevator that led to the top floor. Just as she got out of sight, the other employees rushed to him and flanked him, questions evident in their eyes.

“That was surprising to y’all too, right?” He asked.

“I’m surprised as hell,” Mira, the first girl, said. “I don’t think that’s Ria. She would never speak in such a manner. That’s an imposter.”

“Did you even see what she wore?” Another added. “I’ve never seen Ria dress so shabbily before. Never. She even has eye bags. Did she even look in the mirror?”

“I think Ria is a changed person now.”

“Or is it because her marriage ended? I think that’s the case.”

“I heard that she recently lost her baby. That might be the cause of the divorce. Well, isn't Karma playing? She thought that she would live a good life after stealing Mrs Romano’s fiancé.”

“She looks so pathetic.”

Suddenly, a male senior employee clapped hands behind the gossipers and they automatically gave way for him in the middle. He cat-walked to them and stood with his hands on his hips, flipping his imaginary hair backward. “Don’t you think that y’all are doing too much? Gossiping at work?”

They rolled their eyes and let out groans of frustration, glaring at the boy like the party pooper that he was.

“Says someone who can’t stop acting like a woman yet denies the gay accusations. Just get out if you don’t want to join the conversation,” another fired.

“What’s your business if I’m gay or not? Take your nose off someone else’s butt, okay?”

“I’d never put my nose in your wide butthole, don’t flatter yourself.”

“That’s your own cup of coffee. I’d love to see your face when I report to Mr Romano that you’re slacking at his wife’s company.”

At the mention of Xavier’s the employees knew that it was time to leave. They quickly separated, making their way back to their desks all the while grumbling and cursing at him for ruining their mood.

Meanwhile, Ria got to Elaine’s office floor. She took fast strides until she almost got to the door just in time for Beth to block her path. “What the hell are you doing here?” Her eyes grew wide as she stared at Ria from her head down to her toes, taking in the appearance of the girl. “You look like shit. Did you come here to beg for money?”

“Stop it. That is very offensive. I’m sorry for the impression I gave in the past but please do not speak about me that way. I have to see Elaine at the moment.”

Beth folded her hands around her chest. “Well, she’s so busy right now and would be unable to talk to you. If you know what’s good for you, just leave, okay? Elaine is already stressed out.”

“Please let me see her. If she doesn’t want me around, I’ll leave and not return. It’s really urgent and I have to see Elaine instantly.”

“You can’t see her, didn’t you hear? She’s busy. Leave already.”

“Beth.”

“Don’t call me. You weren’t there when she suffered all that you put her through but I was there. I watched her cry and wished that she would rather die after your betrayal. You wouldn’t know that, right? After all, you only care about yourself and your goddamn husband.”

But Ria still maintained her spot. Realizing that Beth wasn’t going to give way for her to pass, she shoved her off her way and raced toward Bree’s office. She grabbed the handle and pushed the door open, the sight that was met with almost made her pass out.
