An Heir

They say that the aroma of food could wake the dead- joking of course. That was what happened with Elaine after their night of passion. She didn’t think that the smell of mere food would be enough to wake her up even though she felt so tired. The rich, sweet scent of freshly brewed coffee and baked goods simply enveloped her, caused her eyes to flutter open, oh so slowly. It instantly lifted her foggy morning brain.

She let out a sigh and slowly helped herself sit up on the bed, staring beside her. As expected, her husband had woken up earlier after almost rendering her cripple the previous night. Xavier Romano- the man that he was. When he says something, he does it twice as hard. Elaine’s exhausted body protested with each move that she made, her bones refusing to stretch up as usual.

Elaine’s body wanted to go back to the bed but there was no way on earth she was resisting the delicious aroma that came from outside the room. If she did, there was a chance that she would regret it for long. And so, she tossed aside her covers and got out of bed in all her naked glory. The early morning light shone on her body, the shade causing her to sparkle more in the light.

Even without seeing her body in the mirror, she could tell just how bruised she was and how many hickeys stood on her skin. She grabbed a robe from the couch, threw it on herself, and began to make her way out of the room, heading toward the kitchen.

As she stepped into the living area, a low Taylor Swift song played from the house speaker. She raised a brow and walked into the kitchen, her eyes catching sight of her husband who had his back to her, apron wrapped around his waist. He turned when he heard her step in, his eyes looking her over.

“You’re finally awake,” he pointed out. “Had a good night’s rest?” He pushed away from the stove to her. He snaked his hand around her waist and moved her closer, his lips falling on her cheek. “I’ll take it as a yes.”

Elaine pushed him off her and passed him a glare. “I’m not letting you touch me ever again. I can barely feel my legs.”

“That is a good thing, yeah?”

“What?”

“I was only making sure that we have an heir in no time. I’m sure my seed would do some good work in you after last night.” His eyes skimmed down to her tummy, imagining it swelling with their baby. How he missed those times with their baby and he craved to see more of its

“It doesn’t work that way.”

“It would. Considering how fast it happened the last time, we should expect. We had sex only once then.”

“Whatever. What are you making?”

It was then that he realized the pancake that he had in the fire. “Fuck.”

He moved back to the stove and flipped the pancake before putting it on the small plate of pancakes. “Wow,” she exclaimed. “You were busy working while I was having a beauty sleep.”

“I should feed the wife I exhausted, shouldn’t I? Take a seat.”

“I’m honored. Now that we decided to send the house help away, you should take their role since you’re so good at it.”

He scoffed. “We didn’t send them away permanently. It’s just for a while.”

“Impressive.” As he’d asked, she took her seat in one of the island chairs and leaned backward on it, swiveling the chair around while waiting for him to serve her breakfast.

Soon enough, breakfast was served by Xavier. He placed the plates of pancakes in the middle of the table and then the freshly brewed coffee before her. “Have your fill, princess.”

Just one bite from the pancake was enough to make Elaine realize that she made the best decision of her life by deciding to marry Xavier and she would do anything to spend the rest of her life with it. It was no bad idea at all if she would eat milky pancakes like this in the mornings.

“I love you. I mean, I love your pancakes.”

Once breakfast was done, Elaine and Xavier sprinted out of the kitchen to the bedroom to have their bath. They got into the bathroom together and turned on the shower, letting the water cascade over their naked selves. Their hands roamed over each other's bodies, washing away the sweat and dirt of the previous night.

But before his hands could do anything naughty or try to tease her down there, she slapped them away and forced them both to just have their bath. After all, they had work to attend to.

By the time Xavier dropped Elaine at her company, it was way past nine am. They both made it late for work. She was in the best mood that any wife could get as she stepped into her company and into the elevator, heading toward the top floor where her office was.

The first person that she met with when she got to the floor was Beth. She was pacing around while staring at her phone, her right hand placed on her hips. “What is going on?”

“Elaine.” Beth rushed to her immediately and their eyes met. She let out a deep sigh before continuing. “Where the hell… gosh, I forgot you must have had a longgggg time with your husband that you forgot the office.” She emphasized on the ‘long.’

“What.”

“You ask me? I’ve been trying to call for ages.”

“Sorry, my phone was switched off at night by my husband. Is there a problem?”

“I don’t know if it’s a problem but Mr Fred is here. He has been waiting for a while. He came with someone too.”

“Someone?” She frowned. Fred never came with anyone. He always came especially to discuss business. The man was creative and it was one of the reasons why he had access to her without any appointment.

“A male. You should go attend to them. I can finally rest.”

“Sure.”

She made her way into the office and she caught sight of the men seated at her couch. Fred rose from his seat as she walked into the room and stepped to her, offering his hand for a friendly handshake. “Mrs Romano. It’s a pleasure to meet you again.”

“Same here. Please return to your…” as her eyes fell on the other man seated on the couch, her eyes widened and she gasped. “George?”
