Beth's Place

The days went by in a blur just like always and soon, two days passed, drawing closer to the fashion show day. Elaine woke up from the delicious smell of food dancing around the surrounding. She got out of the bed and cleaned her eyes with her hand, yawning shortly before slipping her foot into the cute flip flop at the side of the bed. She noticed that her husband was out of bed and the room in general.

Perhaps he already left for work. With that in mind, she began to make her way to thr bathroom, dragging her feet slowly. She was tired and didn’t want to move but the aroma coming from downstairs was enough to get her moving immediately. She wanted to do nothing other than to feed the little demon in her stomach.

Her feet froze when she got into the bathroom and saw her reflection in the mirror. “Omy, is that me?” She slapped a hand on her face, examining it and making sure she was the same person staring back at her in the mirror. Her eyes grew wide.

“Why the fuck I look like a ghost?”

Her hair hung around her head like a abandoned nest and her face was puffy, eyes red and tired. She touched her cheek, pulling on the visible flesh that she’d added. She stared at herself in the mirror from up to down.

Elaine touched her stomach throught the satin knee length nightgown that she wore, her head drumming hard at the feel of a bump. Her baby bump was finally starting to show and it came with a new weight. She was beginning to look chubby.

Why wouldn’t she? The baby in her womb ate like his its purpose was for food. All she does everyday was eat and eat until the baby was satisfied. Tying her hair into a loose bun, she took her toothbrush and pressed on a pea size toothpaste on it.

After brushing and washing her face, Elaine stepped out of the bathroom and began making her way to the door of the room.
She climbed down the stairs to the kitchen. Her eyes sparkled in joy at the sight she met with when she stepped into the kitchen.

“Good morning, ma’am,” Grace greeted, dragging out a chair for her.

“Good morning. Is it pancake that I perceive?”

“You’re right, ma’am.”

Elaine grinned. Just what she’d been craving. She stared at the perfect brownish pancake settled carefully on a large plate on the table.

“Good morning, Mr Romano.” She swiveled around when she heard Xavier walk into the kitchen. He had his hand in his suit pocket as he strided into the kitchen.

“I thought you left already,” she confessed.”

“Not without seeing you. How was your night?”

“Not bad.”

Xavier settled on a chair and gestured for her to step forward. “Come here.”

“What?”

He patted his thighs.

“Wh…what are you saying? There are a lot of seats here.”

“None better than my thighs.”

He didn’t give her a chance to protest further as his hand clutched her hand and brought her to sit on his thighs.

“Did you dream about me last night, doll? Because I definitely dreamt about you all throughout the night.”

“I just slept. I dreamt nothing.”

“You sure about that?” He whispered in her ears.

“I’m sure. Let’s just eat, I’m hungry.”

He nodded, taking a slice of pancake and bringing it to her lips. Elaine accepted, moaning at the delicious taste that washed over her mouth. She couldn’t help but squirm in excitement.

“You like it?”

“It’s perfect.” It was a good thing that grace was perfect when it comes to making the meal that they liked. She did it like no other.

“Can I spend the night with Beth later?”

His hands froze midway and she imagined his eyes darkening behind her. Considering that he wants her in his sight twenty four seven, it might be a huge decision on his path to let her spend the night with her girlfriend. She’d been neglecting her only friend ever since she got married and she wasn’t going to let Xavier come in between their friendship. They had a lot to catch up on as friends.

“The whole night?” He sounded like she was going away for an entire year.

“Yes. We have a lot to discuss.” She took a slice of pancake and brought it to his mouth. He consumed it. “The fashion show is in a few days tiem. Beth and I have a lot to talk about.”

“Or you just want to spend the night with her and gossip about the silly things girls talk about, huh?”

“It’s not gossiping. We’ll talk about work.” That was a huge lie. They were going to talk about work for at least an hours and the rest of the night will go into partying hard with themselves and of course gossiping. They had topics that they haven’t covered in a while. “Can I go?”

“Only if you agree to take the security guards with you.”

“To Beth’s home?”

“Of course.”

“She’ll be scared as hell if she sees those shadow security guards with their poker faces. We can do just fine without.” Beth would scream bloody murder if she sees them. She might perhaps think they were in a horror movie if a sort.

“Don’t push it, else you don’t want to go.”

“Fine.”

He brought a slice of pancake to her pouted lips. “What? You don’t want to eat anymore,” he teased. She rolled her eyes and snatched the cake from the fork.

“Maybe two of three,” shs tried to negotiate.

“Not enough.”

“Not enough? How many then. It's not like we're going to a dangerous place. It's Beth’s house. It's safe for me.”

“And who says it's safe for the baby?”

She clamped her mouth shut immediately. Right! She almksy forgot. He was doing all of these because of the baby and not for her.

Goodness! What did she think. He wad only worried about his child’s safety.
