This Is My First
“What is its name?” Elaine asked, patting the neck of the animal.
“Luna,” Xavier asked, positioning her hands on the reins. He adjusted her position on the saddle and showed her how to balance herself. “Remember, you’re in control of the horse but but also listen to her cues.” His breath fanned her ears as he spoke and she suddenly became distracted by his presence, pushing her head back to settle on his neck and she breathed in his scent. The scent that she’d missed all these while.
“Focus, Elaine.” He snapped her out of her thoughts and she immediately pulled her head from his neck and returned her attention to the horse.
“I…I’m focused.”
“Good. Like I said, you’re in control of the horse. Riding a horse is all about trust and balance. You need to trust the horse to carry you and you need to trust yourself to stay alright,” he lectured. “Are you ready?”
Elaine took a deep breath, steeling herself for the horse ride ahead. Although she was excited for her first time ever to ride a horse, she tried to emanate as much confidence as she could. Slowly, she nodded. “I’m ready.”
And so, Xavier applied gentle pressure on the reins, tightened his legs around the horse’s barrel, and willed it to start moving. Slowly, the hose began galloping forward.
“You can command the horse however you want, hmm? You’re a natural.” Xavier exclaimed. “See how she’s listening to you.”
“I am?” Elaine beamed.
Slowly, the horse's pace increased and it began galloping around the field, listening to Elaine’s command as Xavier had taught her.
“Whoh. I feel so free.” Elaine’s laughter reverberated around them as the horse galloped through the field, the breeze fanning her face perfectly, giving her the relief that she’d been craving for for months.
After a whole thirty minutes of riding the horse and almost perfecting the art of riding a horse, they finally called it a day. Xavier dismounted the horse and stretched his hand forward for her to take but before she could grab his palm, he retracted it back to his side.
“What?”
“How about you climb down on your own?”
Elaine’s eyes widened. “You’re not going to help me down? You helped me up.”
He shrugged.
“Xavier.”
“It’s just dismounting a horse. Come on, give it a try.”
“You know that this is my first time. Help me.”
“What can you do without me, huh?” He passed her a grin yet still didn’t make any attempt to help her dismount the horse. Elaine groaned and decided to take matters into her own hands. She angled her leg to one side so that she sat on the side of the horse, facing Xavier who was below her.
“Don’t tell me you’re going to jump down?” He raised a brow.
“I’ll do just that. If you don’t catch me and I end up hurting my legs, get ready to take care of me until I get well.”
“Don’t you…. Elaine.” His eyes almost popped out of their sockets when even before he could finish his warning, she let go of her hold on the horse and jumped down, her body heading in his direction. He quickly embraced her body and held her tight as her body landed on him, the force of her jump causing them both to collide on the floor, her body falling on top of his.
Xavier groaned, his head thrown backward as he held her head to his chest, letting out strings of curses at intervals. “Fuck, doll. Why so chaotic? You alright?”
She nodded. “I told you, didn’t I?”
“You’re crazy. If I hadn’t caught you on time, you wouldn’t spent weeks in the hospital. Don’t fucking try something like that again, do you hear me?”
“I will…”
“Do you hear me?”
She pushed herself away from him and stood up from his body, cleaning her shirt and pants with her hands. She rolled her eyes. “It’s your fault for not listening. You’re not going to stand?”
Xavier stretched his legs upward and in a jump, he stood up from the floor, and like Elaine, he cleaned his polo and pants before returning his attention to her.
“Let’s go. You must be exhausted.”
Once she changed back to her dress, they both walked out of the field and into the car, putting on their seatbelts. “We should come here again another time,” Elaine suggested.
“You’d want that?”
“I loved it here. The horses are pretty too.”
Xavier nodded and began the car, the car quickly driving out of the premises and into fen busy road of the city. “Would you love to feed them next time?”
“I can do that?”
“You can, if you ask.”
“I’d really love to. Thank you for being the best horse riding instructor. I enjoyed riding the horse.”
He cocked his head to the side to stare at her. “More than you enjoy riding me?”
As if to save her from the topic, his stomach suddenly growled loudly, and she passed him a glare. “Find a way to get me food, rather.”
“Is that an order?”
“Who cares? You’ll get me food or not?”
“Yes, queen.”
Swerving the car to the side, he parked in front of a fancy restaurant. “What do you want? I’ll get takeouts.”
“Am I allowed to still get cravings?” Her face fell. The bay was gone already but she still had cravings like she was still pregnant. Right then she knew that it wasn’t the baby making her eat so much after all. It was just her.
“You can get as many cravings as you want.”
A lips stretched into a smile. “I want seafood then. Lot of it.”
“Done! Stay here, I’ll be right back.”
He stepped out of the car and headed toward the inside of the restaurant and in no time, he returned with a brown bag of food which he passed to Elaine whose eyes glistened at the sight.
She tore the food bag open, the aroma immediately filling the air around them. “Thanks, baby.”
Inhaling the aroma of the food for a last time, she kept it aside. “Drive fast. Let’s get home sooner.”
His lips twitched. “Order me all you can now. You won’t get the opportunity when you get under me.”
