You Need To Cool Off

By the time they arrived at the Rock mansion, the swim setting was already done by the servants. They laid relaxing chairs and sunscreens with a few swimming trucks for them and it seemed the men were also done with their exercise as Elaine could see a few of her cousins around, giving orders to the servants.

Having no intention to join the fun with them, she attempted to make her way into the house but before she could take more than a few steps in, two of her cousin-in-law’s hands got to her wrists and dragged her backward.

“Oh dear, where are you going?” Diana asked.

“Where you think you’re going? It’s time for a swim,” Greta added.

Elaine looked between them, the closeness between Greta and Diana. It was known to everyone that amongst the in-laws, they were the closest, best of friends. But betrayal was all her family was capable of. They only know how to betray the people closest to them. Diana was cheating with Greta’s husband yet she still had the confidence to look Greta in the eye and act like nothing was happening behind her back.

Deep in her, she hoped Greta would find out soon and when that happens, she would be by her side, cheering her on to do whatever it takes to bring them down. Betrayals deserve no second chance.

“I was going to change,” she lied.

“No need for that. I told you, I’m in charge of everything this year,” Greta grinned. “I got everything in place. What do you want? One-piece swimsuit? Bikini? I’ve got them all.”

“Ehh? I’m not sure you have my size.”

“Of course I do. I got everyone’s dive. Come on, meet one of the servants. I’m in charge of making sure no one passes this door inside. There’s food too.”

“Diana, Greta. I just want to grab something.”

“I know you, Elaine,” Diana pressed further. “You won’t return.” It wasn’t the first time she was getting away from such gatherings. “You have a hotshot husband, Elaine. You need to show him the power of a woman. With a husband like that, I’ll be walking around naked all the time.”

Elaine almost facepalmed herself. She would have if it wasn’t for her hands in their hold. Considering Diana’s history, she was sure she wasn’t joking.

Greta added,
“Right? Mr Romano is a hotshot. Where did you get such a man from, hmm?”

“You both are married.”

“Give tips to the girls. It won’t hurt just knowing. Where did you find him? At a party? Club? I’m desperate to know,” Diana whined.

“At the church.” She rolled her eyes.

“Really? Should we go to church tomorrow, Greta?”

They finally let go of her hand, discussing their soon visit to the church. She turned away from them, heading toward the pool, nowhere in particular. She has to look for a way to go indoors. From the corner of her eye, she saw Ria rejecting a bikini from one of the servants. It must be fun having such a life. She gets to do whatever she wants without anyone complaining.

She was sure that when Ria's child grew up, he’d also be treated like a prince, the family’s prince. And hers? Goodness, her life was a total mess. She was pregnant and the father of the baby was oblivious.

She took a stroll at the side of the pool, her hands behind her back as she let the cool breeze wash over her, her hair breezing.

“You okay?” Elaine stopped at the familiar voice, turning to see him right behind her with a drink in his hand. Superb, he must be enjoying bringing her to the hellhole. Suddenly, she felt like pulling his hair off.

“You seem like you’re enjoying yourself,” she stated.

“Not when your cousins are all over me. They all want favors. Xavier took a sip from his drink, coming to stand closer to her. “You okay, doll?”

She folded her hand under her chest. “What is it to you?”

“How was your outing, anyway? I heard there was a good massage.”

“It sucked, really.”

“You don’t get along with them.”

“I didn’t want to be there or here. It’s all your fault. You seem like you’re enjoying yourself though. Flexing that out in front of everyone.” Her eyes fell on his bare chest, open to the eyes of everyone. She could see Diana and Greta as they got into the pool, their eyes on Xavier, feasting on his muscles.

“Flexing what?”

He’s going to act ignorant with her now?

“You know what I’m talking about.” She looked away.

He chuckled.

“You know that every part of me belongs to you, doll. Wanna go for a swim?”

“No, thank you.”

She averted her gaze to the pool, eyes on her cousins who were beginning to have fun in the large swimming pool. She was in no mood to play.

“Elaine, come on, change and join us,” Diana yelled. Her eyes flickered to Xavier and in a low tone, she invited. “You too, Xavier.”

“Elaine, why are you so boring? Join us.” Greta added.

“Y’all already tainted the pool. I’ll pass this time. Maybe I’ll just watch.”

“Whatever. Do as you like.”

The women swerved around, resuming their pool party, drinking occasionally and rocking the bodies of their husbands.

“Someone is angry?” Xavier raised a brow. “Who got you pissed?”

“I’m not. I wanted to go in but Greta didn’t let me. It’s tiring out here.”

“You look like you can handle a fight.”

“I can handle a fight right now.”

“Then that means you’re angry.”

“Fine. I am. At everything.”

She took a step back when he stepped forward, invading her personal space.

“What are you doing?”

“If you’re angry, then you need this to cool off.”

He pushed her into the pool, her scream reverberating in the air.

“Xavierrrrr.”
