Failed Plan To Punish Him
“What genre of movie are we watching?” Xavier asked just as they got to the box office, Elaine doing the job of picking a movie for them.
“Didn’t worry, stay back, you’re going to like it.”
He did as she asked, stepping backward a bit and letting her pick their tickets. He ignored the eyes of the ladies on him, eyes fixated on the girl picking out their movie.
From where Elaine stood, her lips twitched at the attention her husband was getting from the ladies. Well, he stood out for real. Tall, muscular, and financially loaded. She couldn’t blame them for swooning over him. Except that she was now feeling regret for dragging him with her. If she had known, she would have come to the movies herself.
A gasp escaped her lips when one of the women took a bold walk toward Xavier. The tall model-shaped lady stood before him offering him a big smile on a platter. She watched as the lady flipped her hair backward as she introduced herself before proceeding to try and give Xavier her number.
The fuck, she was even laughing at every word he said. She knew him, he wasn’t that funny. He was humorless.
Puffing an air of anger, Elaine stared at the romance movie ticket in her hands, her fist tightening. Returning it to the lady, she pointed to the horror movies list, picking out the worst of them all.
“Ma’am, are you sure you want to watch that?”
“Of course.”
Nodding, the lady handed her two tickets, and by the time Elaine turned, the woman with Xavier had left. Lucky her. She glared at him. Did he give her his number? Or even booked a date with her? She wasn’t so sure their marriage was exclusive.
“Let’s go in.”
They grabbed their popcorn and drinks before striding into the cinema.
“So what did you pick?” Xavier asked.
“Horror, gory.”
He raised a brow.
“Horror?”
“Yeah. You’re the almighty Xavier Romano, don’t tell me you’re scared of horror movies.”
He chucked.
“And here I was thinking she was going to pick out the cheesiest romance movie.”
“You said something?”
“I didn’t.”
“Great.”
They took their position at the fifth roll, sitting beside each other, Elaine excited at the punishment she prepared for him.
But she soon realized her mistake, how foolish she was when the movie started, the introduction causing her heart to thump loudly in her chest.
A gasp left her throat when a character in the cut out the head of another character, the blood spilling everywhere, including the screen. She immediately stuffed a mouthful of popcorn in her mouth, feet tapping nervously.
She wasn’t a fan of horror movies herself.
She gripped the chair tightly as another character died, holding back her scream when a ghost suddenly appeared right before the screen, the audience screaming at the sight.
Her eyes looked over to Xavier. What had she expected? The man was stoic. He didn’t even flinch when the characters started a war between themselves, taking out each other's guts and throwing them anywhere deemed fit.
Twenty minutes into the movie she couldn’t sit still. Her blood pressure was rising, she could see herself dreaming about it all, imagining herself as the characters. A bile rose up her throat.
“Can we leave?” She blurted out to the man unshaken beside her. He averted his gaze to her.
“Why?”
“I’m no longer enjoying the movie. I just want to return to the hotel. I’m sorry for dragging you here.”
Slowly, the man shook his head.
“Tut tut tut. Such a shame I’ll have to refuse your request, doll. It is only just now that I began to enjoy the movie.”
“That can’t be true. You don’t even like movies.”
“I happen to like this one. We should probably finish it as I’d love to see the last character die. He can’t be alive while everyone else dies.”
Elaine groaned in annoyance, regret filling her every being. She shouldn’t have changed the ticket. She regretted it bitterly.
“But why are you in a hurry to leave, doll? Didn’t you handpick this movie?”
“Now it’s my fault?” She snapped, her voice raising a bit but not enough to be heard by the other people in the cinema. “If you hadn’t flirted with that two-faced woman, I wouldn’t be watching this.”
“Flirted?” He sounded amused, his gaze on the screen.
“Don’t pretend. You gave her your number.”
“Tell me, did I?”
“You did.”
“No, I did not.”
“It’s all your fault. I asked you to stand back and let me pick the movie not to stand back and flirt with some woman.”
“So you picked a horror movie to punish me?”
“You’re not scared?”
Xavier let out a fit of laughter, his head thrown backward. She really didn’t think that he’d be scared by the fake setting, right?”
“What’s funny?”
“You thought I’d be scared by some silly acting? One where they forgot the basics of killing someone? Then I should tell you that if you actually want someone dead, you won’t swipe their neck from the corner. If you do it from the middle, he’ll be dead in no time and would have no means to retaliate.”
Elaine’s mouth fell open. Now he was talking like a certified serial killer?
“You better don’t let the police hear that. I’ll deny being your wife.”
“I’d love to see how you’ll do it.”
“You don’t go around speaking like a certified killer, Xavier.”
“And if I’m one?”
She let out a puff of frustrated air for the uncountable time in a day. She was short of words to say to him. She fixed her gaze back on the screen.
By the time they finished watching the movie, her head was buried in his chest, his hand patting her hair soothingly.
“The movie is over, doll.”
At his whisper, she slowly broke away from him, face red at her backfired plan. Smoothening her hair with her hands, she immediately stood up from the chair, making her way out of the cinema, too embarrassed to face her husband.
When will her plan against him ever work?
