The Party
“When you’re done, drop the report at my mansion,” Xavier ordered into his phone as he stepped into the kitchen, his other hand dipped into his pocket. “Do you get what I’m saying, Miss Sonia?” He asked as he received no reply from the lady’s path.
“Yes, Sir.” Her voice was low and tiny that he had a hard time hearing.
“I’ll give you a call very soon.”
With that, he ended the call and strode to the refrigerator, opening it and grabbing a bottle of water and a glass. Pouring a decent amount on the glass, he gulped down the content in one go. The party downstairs was exhausting and he already was having a hard time coping with the amount of guests back there. Instead of the afternoon party as earlier planned, Grandmother Romano had insisted on changing the time and having the party in the morning instead.
Just as he closed the lid of the bottle of water, he felt someone step beside him and open the refrigerator door to grab a bottle of water. He turned, his eyes meeting with Margaret. She acted like he didn’t exist before her, opening the cap of the water without help and gulping directly from
It
He shook his head and turned but before he could get out of the kitchen, he stopped. “Remember my warning, Margi.” He thought of reminding her. Perhaps she might have forgotten. “Don’t cause any problems because if you do, I won’t take it lightly.”
“You know what?” Margaret snapped, swiveling around to face him. His brows raised as his eyes raked over her dress. She wore a flowy pink gown that looked almost too heavy for her that he wondered how she could walk in the heavy dress. “I think you’re too full of yourself. You’re not the only one who’s married with a wife in this world. What is she? A queen? It’s all about Elaine, Elaine, Elaine whenever we speak. Say something else, it’s becoming boring.”
“I don’t care whatever shit you think. Don’t cause trouble and we’ll both be fine.”
“We’ll, sorry to disappoint but I’m not interested in being on good terms with you. We’ve never really been on good terms and that’s fine by me. As for your wife, you better pray that one casts an evil eye on her because not even this possessiveness of yours will keep her. Anyway, I think you’re needed at the party, Mr Romano.”
With that, she slammed the glass on the island table, bumped her shoulder with Xavier’s, and stormed out of the kitchen, gathering her dress in her hands as she walked. Xavier let out a frustrated sigh and weaved his hands through his hair. Turning, he made his way out of the kitchen and back into the hall. He narrowed his eyes when his eyes zeroed in on one of the guests who made his way toward him.
The man stopped before him with his hands buried in his pocket. “Mr Romano.” He stretched his hands forward for a handshake. “I’m grateful for the invite.”
Xavier grabbed a drink from one of the waiters, not bothering to reply to the man beside him, and only when his mother approached him did he raise his gaze from the glass.
The woman dragged him to the side and whispered. “Have you seen Elaine? I haven’t seen her this morning.”
“She’ll be down soon. I let her sleep for a while.”
“She’s still sleeping?”
“I guess she was stressed out from yesterday.” He’d decided to let her sleep for a while after he woke up. She looked too stressed these past few days and he couldn’t bring himself to wake her up for a birthday party that he wasn’t interested in attending in the first place.
Just as he ended his words, his eyes fell on the stairs, his mouth falling open in awe at the sight of his wife descending the stairs, a smile on her face as she waved at him. He couldn’t bring himself to tear his gaze away from her as she stepped slowly down the stairs. His eyes were locked on her appearance. Just like every female family member of the Romanos, she wore a long pink gown that flowed all the way to the floor.
The dress had a long cut at the side from the hem to her mid-thighs, exposing her milky thighs as she stepped down.
From the corners of his eyes, he felt everyone's gaze shifted to his wife. His eyes darkened as he saw the lustful gaze of the men on her, their gazes skimming through his wife. Anger washed through him at the moment and he resisted the urge to pull their eyes out for daring to stare at his wife in such a manner.
He shot forward immediately he saw a ball-shaped bastard walk forward to the end of the stairs with his hands stretched forward. Beating the man to it, he stretched his hands forward for Elaine and forced a smile.
With a giggle, she took his palm and smiled shortly at the man. With his eyes on her, he bent his back and kissed the back of her palm before leading her away from the crowd.
Just as they got away from the crowd, she asked. “Why didn’t you wake me, Xavier? You knew the birthday party was going to take place earlier. You made me seem bad.”
“And who says you have to feel bad for waking up late?”
“It’s your grandmother's birthday party.”
“Does it matter? This is not going to be her last birthday alive. And even if it is, it still doesn’t matter. Did you have a good night's rest?”
“I did. Emily brought me this dress. How does it look?” She turned around for him to have a perfect view of her dress. “I fancy it, you know.”
“Emily bought you this?”
“She did. She came knocking this morning and I….”
She frowned when Xavier leaned into her and sniffled the dress, his eyes widening.
