Way To Get Money
A muscle worked in Margaret’s jaw. “Do not dare insult me.”
“All I'm saying is that, if I don't get a hundred thousand before next week, I'm taking your heir out.” A smirk settled on Ria’s lips once she finished her threat. “And if you think that I’m simply just bluffing then you need me to remind you all what I’m capable of. I’m a Rock!”
Her words spiked Margaret’s anger further and she stepped forward into the room, marching toward Ria and Jimmy. Once she got to them, her palm collided with Ria’s cheek, the force of her hit sending Ria backward, her hand immediately holding her cheek while her eyes stared at her mother in law in shock. How could the older woman hit her knowing full well that she was pregnant with the heir of the family. Did she perhaps no longer care about the baby?
Jimmy’s eyes widened and before it could escalate further, he stepped between his mother and wife. “What are you doing, Mother? She’s pregnant.”
“Get out of the way. I need to speak sense into her goddamn head.”
“Mother, she…”
“Get out!”
The roar of Margaret was something that Jimmy couldn't dare overlook. Even though she was his mother, he knew exactly what she was capable of and how the biggest mistake anyone could ever make was disobeying the woman. Passing her a reluctant look, he stepped to the side and watched as his mother again stormed to Ria. She grasped her shoulder and pulled her forward.
Margaret began. “Since you’re going to act like a goddamn child, let me tell you. The Rock family is way beneath us, let me remind you, right? Your family is nothing compared to me and I can get you all out with just a snap of my finger.” The woman let out a chuckle. “I’ll take it that Jimmy didn’t prep you about me before you both got married. I'm the worst person to offend.”
“You both started it. I came to this house as a Rock, not a peasant. How dare you lay a hand on me?” Although Ria’s legs were trembling, she couldn’t give the woman the impression that she won and so she pushed her further away from her and continued. “I see that you no longer care about the baby in my womb. I’ll do whatever I want with it.”
“Don’t you even dare. What kind of mother threatens the life of her own child this way?”
“Me! New, right? Watch and see what I’ll do if I don't get the hundred thousand dollars soon. The baby will be out of my tummy before you know it.” She was tired of the back and forth about money between them all. And she was also tired of living like a slave in her marriage. It wasn’t what she signed up for when she snatched Jimmy from Elaine, it wasn’t what she signed up for when she seduced him and managed to make him hers. Somehow, she was already regretting her decision.
If she could go back in time, she would definitely not get married to him.
Margaret passed Jimmy a glare. “You better speak to the spoiled brat you call your wife. I’m not a patient person.”
“Or you better find a way to get money.” At that, Ria hit her shoulder with Margaret’s and stormed out of the room, grabbing her bag from the table.
She climbed down the stairs to the last floor and began heading toward the main door of the house but before she could get there, she heard the call of her name from behind and when she turned to find out the source, she saw Jimmy running toward her.
“Babe,” he called as they stood face to face. “I’m sorry for what I said. I’m sorry for everything but please don’t harm the baby.” He knew how crazy Ria could get if she wanted. “I’ll find the money.”
“Instead of speaking to me and pleading like a rejected apple, you better start looking for the money now.”
Passing him a last look, she snatched her car key from his pant belt hole and stormed out of the house and into her car. she let out a loud sigh, her hands wrapping around the steering wheel. Her Lamborghini was the only valuable thing that she has in her life right now. It was the only thing that she had that made her stand out in the city. If not for it, her covers would have blown away and she would’ve been revealed to the whole world as broke and in a toxic marriage.
Ria drove the car out of the premises.
After about twenty minutes drive, she stopped in front of a brown painted condo building and stepped out, ignoring the fact that she was getting weird stares from people at her appearance. She knocked on the door of the condo.
“Oh my, Ria. What are you doing here?” The surprise shriek of a girl Ria’s age echoed as the door flung open. “Are you okay? You look like shit. What the fuck?”
“Just open the door, Iris. I’m in no good mood.”
“Right.” The girl pushed the door open widely and ushered Ria in. Ria walked into the living room of the girl’s house like she owned it, sat on a couch and crossed her legs.
Iris walked behind her and sat on the couch beside her.
“Are you sure you’re okay? What the hell happened to your hair? Oh my.”
“I’m okay. I had an exchange of words with my husband and his mother.”
“Again?”
Ria nodded. “Please offer me tea.” Her friend Iris was the only friend that she could run to whenever she had these kinds of problems. Iris was the only one who knew most of her secrets. That was the advantage of having a therapist as a friend. They knew how to keep secrets like their whole life depended on it. Iris was the best in keeping her secrets.
“Your favorite. I’ll make it immediately.”
