Allergy
Her heart skipped a bit at the nickname he made for her.
“I…I’ll give you a call next time.”
“Good girl.”
His words traveled from her ears down to her core, her cheeks reddening. On top of being protective, he was also bossy. Goodness! Xavier Romano was her ideal type, the perfect storm of masculine allure. The kind of man women would harm themselves over just to get him. He was a fucking priceless possession and Elaine wasn’t ready to let go of him yet.
She had every intention of using his power to bend it to her will and her will alone.
“You like the dress?” His deep voice rumbled.
“That’s why I got it. The dress is exactly to my taste.”
“Nice taste then.”
Moving over to her side, he helped her buckle her seatbelt, his face stopping just right above hers before retracting to his side of the car.
“Here.”
Elaine’s wide eyes fell on the black card between Xavier’s fingers, before drifting to meet his gaze. “What is…is this?”
“You don’t know?”
“I do know, I mean why are you giving me this?”
“You’ll use this whenever you go out, okay?”
She shook her head.
“I have my….”
“Who cares if you do,” he interrupted. “You’re my finacée. I don’t get you spending yours when I have this, take it.”
Biting down her smile, Elaine slowly took the black card from him, her hand gripping it tightly as she looked outside the window while he started the car.
Aside from being protective and bossy, the man beside her was also an ATM, unlimited. They weren’t real couples, yet he was already spoiling her to the fullest, a freaking unlimited card. Call her a gold digger or whatever but the more money she has the better. With a leaping heart, she gripped the card tighter, envisioning just how well she would spend it all.
Just then as if to ruin her mood, her stomach rumbled loudly causing her to bite her lips in embarrassment. Once, twice, it rumbled loud, the sound filling the car.
Ahh, you bastard! She cursed, nails digging into her palm, her gaze avoiding Xavier’s.
She heard him chuckle before the car came to a stop.
“Why are we stopping here?”
Looking around, he spoke,
“There’s no good restaurant here. I’ll get you something to munch on before we find somewhere good.”
“I can wait, you don’t have to get me anything.”
“Not after that sound.”
She almost wished that the ground open and take her away from the man. The memory of her stomach rumbling, brought her the most embarrassing embarrassment of recent, if that even made sense.
Just as he opened the car’s door, she grabbed his wrist, making him face her.
“It doesn’t mean anything. I can manage.”
Their gaze locked. “I hate it when my woman starves.”
At that, he got out of the car, closing it after him as he made his way to the other side of the road, his muscles flexing at each step he took. Her eyes trailed him until he got out of sight.
Before she knew it, he was back to sight, crossing the road to the car which he opened and got into, handling her the brown pack of burgers and a chilled drink.
“This place isn’t developed yet.” He started the car. “I don’t want you eating junk food but you can’t starve either. We’ll be out of here soon.”
Elaine stared at the pack of burgers, the scent throwing her modesty out of the window as she immediately brought it out of the pack to her mouth.
“Hmmm,” she moaned. “This is good. I love burgers.”
“I know.”
Her eyes whipped to him. “How?”
“Trust me, you don’t want to know how, Doll.”
She shrugged her shoulders and continued munching on the huge burger and cup drink that he got for her. You sure you don’t want to have a bite?” She asked amid bites.
“I’m good.”
“Well, that’s on you.” No wonder he was fit. She looked him over, a bit of jealousy laced in her eyes.
Xavier passed her a look, his eyes darkening at her abnormal skin. “What the fuck is wrong with your face?”
“What?” She touched her face. “What’s wrong?”
“You're having breakouts all of a sudden, it looks severe.”
Elaine dug her hand into her purse and dug out a mirror. Her breath hitched at the red acne-faced woman who stared back at her. Her face had red tiny swollen spots that had her gasping, the burger falling off her hands. Suddenly, she felt her chest tightening, her hands coming to hit her chest. She couldn’t breathe, the hotness of her chest causing her to beat it the more.
“The fuck. What’s wrong, Doll?” With his eyes half on the road and half on her, he asked.
“It…it’s the burger. I think th…there’s peanuts in..in it,” she managed to speak.
“Peanuts?”
“I’m allergic to peanuts.”
“Fuck, I didn’t know.”
He increased the speed of the car, overtaking the other cars on the road as his other hand fell on her thigh. “You’re going to be good, okay? Just hang in there. We’re almost at a hospital.”
He increased the volume of the air conditioner, driving the car at speed.

“I gave her some allergy reaction drugs. The swell would subside very soon. For now, she should be allowed to rest,” the doctor announced leaving Elaine’s bedside. Trying to keep her eyes open, she listened to the words of the doctor.
“That’s fine then. Give us more drugs in case something like this happens again.” Xavier spoke, his gaze fixated on the short bulky doctor, listening attentively to him.
“Definitely. I’ll leave now, Mr Romano.”
Before the doctor could leave, Elaine stopped him.
“Doctor.”
He turned.
“When will I be discharged?”
“I’ll suggest you be here for a few days, under our watch. Three to four days is enough.”
“What?” She exclaimed.
Xavier nodded at the doctor, ushering him out of the room. Once the man left, he turned toward her. “You’ll be here until they allow you to leave.”
“I…I can’t. Jimmy and Ria’s wedding is in two days.”
She saw his eyes darkened, his fist clenching as he glared at her.
“It’s not what you’re thinking. I’m not going there to stop the wedding or anything. It’s their big day, shouldn’t it be a good time to strike? I can’t miss this for anything.”
“Your health comes first, Doll.” His eyes softened.
“It’s just an allergy reaction. I hardly go to the hospital for this while at the Rock mansion.”
Their gaze locked.
“Now, you’re my woman. Everything is different. You’ll stay here as the doctor suggested.” His words sounded absolute and final. If it were other occasions, she might have agreed.
“I…I won’t.”
Jimmy and Ria’s big day was going to be hers too. She couldn’t wait to unleash the truth and feed on the look on their faces when she showed them the consequences of messing with her.
Letting it slide was no option at all.
