Stay Out Of His Wife’s Zip Code

Xavier got into his car at the parking lot and searched for the box of inhalers that he always carried around with him just in case something similar happened, especially as the attacks had been increasing for the past few days. He clutched it in his hand when he found it before placing it on the passenger seat carefully and starting the car, heading toward the place he guessed she saw. Although the location wasn't complete in her text, he already figured the place out.

Landline beach!

Xavier swiftly dialed Elaine’s number as his car swept past the other cars on the road. The phone only rang for a while and directed him to voicemail. It happened a few more times and groaning in anger, he threw his phone aside, not caring that it landed on the back seat of the car.

He expertly drove through the busy road, narrowly escaping the other cars without encountering an accident.

He let out a sigh of relief when his eyes fell on Elaine’s car by the side of the beach. Without waiting for the car to stop, he threw himself out and raced to her car. But his footsteps flattered and his eyes widened when his eyes fell on the scene that played out before him. He watched with wide eyes as another man opened the door of his wife’s car and bent to grab her hands, intending to pull her out of the car.

And fuck, when he eventually recognized who it was, he felt his insides boiling and in three long strides, he pulled the man by his shirt collar and landed a punch on his jaw, the crack of bones reverberating in the surrounding, mixing in with the sound of the waves.

“The fuck, man,” George’s hand darted forward to touch the side of his lips and brought it to his face, his head snapping to Xavier at the sight of the blood.

He couldn’t resist the tough groan of anger that escaped his lips and the urge to deliver a punch of his in return. “How fucking dare you.”

“You’d know if you dare lay your goddamn filthy fingers on my wife again. I’ll break those bones of yours, boy. I fucking warned you to stay away from her. Seems like you’re signing up to face my wrath.” He’d warned the man to stay out of his wife’s zip code since the first time that he met her with him at the restaurant. He’d asked him never to see his wife again and like he’d been trying to get a reaction off him, he still continued pestering Elaine in such a way that made him pissed as hell.

“Excuse me? You can’t stop her from seeing whoever she wants to.”

“Don’t think I don’t know what you're up to.” He could hide his true nature from everyone but never to him. He knew exactly who the man was and what he was playing at. “Consider this my last warning before I react. I’m only taking my wife’s advice to try and not be violent.”

“The fuck I was only trying to help her.”

As if a bulb just lit up in Xavier’s head, his head snapped to the side, to Elaine’s door and he immediately cursed and ran to the car and opened it. “Fuck, fuck, fuck!” He let out strings of curses as his eyes fell on the pale woman seated behind the wheel. Digging his hands into his pocket, he fished out her inhaler and with shaky hands positioned it to her mouth, praying to the almighty that it wasn’t too late.

“Fuck, doll,” he groaned, his hands pulling her closer to him while he puffed the inhaler into her mouth, patting her back lightly. “You have to be strong for me, okay? I’m fucking sorry I took time to be here. Yes, slowly, take some in. Good girl. You can do this.” His hands roamed around her back as she managed to open her mouth and take in the puffs of inhaler, her eyes closed and her face pale as hell.

“You’re such a good girl. Look how well you room it.”

Finally, she let out a cough and pulled away from the inhaler, indicating that it was enough, her head slamming on the headrest of the car, her breathing still rough and long. It took a while for it to be stabilized and once it did, she slowly opened her eyes to stare at the man.

“Xavier?” She managed, her eyes teary.

“Don’t say anything. Just come with me.” He wrapped his hands around her waist and upper back before lifting her off the car’s seat. He frowned when his eyes caught sight of the now empty spot where George had once stood. Shaking the thought of the man off his head, he carried her to the front passenger seat of his car and placed her gently on it, and helped her put on her seatbelt. Without another word, he made his way around the car and got in behind the wheel.

“How do you feel now?” He asked without spari v her a glance.

“Better. Th…thank you for coming.” Her voice still sounded shaky and her breath was still a little bit unusual due to the attack that she had just a while ago. Staring around her surroundings, she asked. “I thought I saw someone I knew a while ago. Did you see anyone?” It was just a silhouette but she’d surely seen someone open her car’s door and try to get her out. Tall, muscular, and what color of hair? Her sight had been quite blurry.

Was it perhaps just someone passing by? Her head was filled with lots of thoughts. Or Ria? Ria was the only one around at the beach. No, Ria’s just a girl, and definitely not tall.

“There was no one. Just you and I,” he lied.

“Are you sure?” She frowned. “I thought I saw someone.”

All throughout the ride, Xavier said nothing to her, not even when she tried to strike up a conversation between them. He only nodded or shook his head at the questions that required a yes or a no.

Finally, the car rolled into the private garage of their mansion and he swiftly took off his seatbelt, got out of the car, and got to her side. Opening the door, he stretched his hand for her to take and when she did, he pulled her to him and carried her princess-style, heading into the mansion.

“Aren't I too heavy?”

“Shut the fuck up.”

Her lips twitched at his tone and she wrapped her hands around his neck, burying her face into his neck and sniffing in his cologne. He climbed up the stairs with Elaine in his arms and kicked the door of their bedroom open. He stepped deeper into the room and laid her on the bed before turning around to leave.

But before he could take more than a few steps, her hands came around his wrist and stopped him in his tracks. “Are you angry, Xavier?”

“I'm not.”

“You are. You're angry at me. You haven't even looked at me.” She sighed. “Fine, scold me already.”
