Chapter 131 Michelle's Crisis

The moment Michelle saw her husband, she was incredibly excited.

The arrival of the apocalypse made their reunion feel surreal, as if it had been ages since they last met.

However, seeing Caleb beaten black and blue made Michelle's eyebrows shoot up in shock.

Previously, she was the best member of the SWAT team, having earned countless merits and even taken lives. Such a person, even if a woman, wouldn't have a good temper.

When she pressed for details, Caleb was vague and hesitant, feeling too embarrassed to explain, which only made Michelle angrier and not want to talk to him."

But when she saw Caleb, who used to be pampered and come from a well-off family, devouring the instant food she brought back and savoring the cheap bottle of wine she grabbed from a looted supermarket, her heart softened instantly.

She began to understand how difficult it was for her weak husband to live alone in a world where strength was everything, especially since she learned that her father-in-law had turned into a zombie the moment the apocalypse hit, robbing Caleb of his lifelong support.

"Michelle, this stuff is really good. How come I never noticed before?" Caleb, full and satisfied, lay on the bed that already had a sour smell, burping contentedly.

While tidying up the room, Michelle responded absentmindedly, thinking that if Caleb ever tasted the meals she had with her team, he might swallow his tongue. Imagining Caleb's comical reaction, Michelle couldn't help but smile.

Michelle was already very beautiful, causing quite a stir when she joined the SWAT team. Now, as a married woman no longer involved in fighting, she exuded the charm of a mature woman.

Plus, following William's team during the apocalypse, she had no worries about food, clothing, or shelter, looking clean and refreshed, starkly different from other women in the apocalypse.

Suddenly, Caleb felt a sharp pain, crouched down, and cried out.

Michelle quickly went over to ask what was wrong, but she knew deep down that he was probably beaten.

The pain made him lie back on the bed, closing his eyes without saying a word.

Just as Michelle was about to comfort Caleb, the door was suddenly kicked open, and a furious man in neat outdoor gear walked in.

Nathan said angrily, "Caleb, are you fucking ignoring me?"

After saying this, he suddenly noticed Michelle's presence. His gaze swept over her, and when it reached her face, he was instantly stunned by her beauty.

"Nathan!" Caleb jumped up like a spring, ran to the man who had barged in, and said ingratiatingly, "It's just that my wife came to find me, so I forgot. I'll go wash your clothes right now!"

"Where are you going?" Michelle asked, already displeased with the man's brazen gaze, grabbed Caleb, who was about to leave.

During the past few days with William's group, she had learned from their teachings how to identify Evolved persons. So she immediately knew this man had taken the Evolution Elixir and became an Evolved person.

But sometimes, that was just how it was. Although she wasn't an Evolved person yet, she had a bottle of Evolution Elixir in her bag and could become one at any time. Spending all day with Evolved people and killing second-level mutated beings, she didn't have any respect for Evolved people.

She couldn't understand the fear ordinary people at Hope Base had towards Evolved persons because she hadn't seen those who considered themselves superhuman oppressing and killing ordinary people.

The man called Nathan Ross glanced at Michelle, gave a lecherous smile, said nothing, and turned to leave, leaving Caleb bewildered.

Michelle snorted coldly, feeling a bad premonition, and considered whether to find William and get a gun for self-defense.

Watching the Evolved person who always needed his service leave, Caleb lay beside his long-separated wife on the bed, his face filled with terror. He tossed and turned, unable to sleep, worrying about what to do after offending Nathan.

Michelle lay quietly on her side, looking at his swollen-faced, anxious, and timid Caleb. The excitement from their reunion had long faded, leaving her in a daze, unable to think.

In a nearby room, two Evolved persons were lying on a bed, being massaged by two women, while a middle-aged woman with a fawning expression sat nearby.

"Nathan, did you see that useless Caleb's wife? How is she? Isn't she as beautiful as I said?" the middle-aged woman asked.

Nathan didn't even open his eyes, just confirmed with a sound from his nose.

The other Evolved person beside him opened his eyes and looked at Nathan, asking, "Is she really that beautiful?"

This time, Nathan didn't exaggerate. He opened his eyes and said, "She's really pretty, no, I mean, she's extremely beautiful. Top-notch beauty. That guy Caleb, I've heard about his pretty wife before, but I've never seen her. Turns out she's even more beautiful than the rumors."

Hearing his companion say this, Dylan Miller suddenly sat up. The woman massaging him was caught off guard and was thrown to the ground, her head hitting the wall, causing blood to flow instantly. The intense pain made her cry, but she didn't dare make a sound.

As if he didn't see the woman's injury, Dylan smiled and said, "She's that pretty?"

Nathan also got up, waved his hand to let the woman attending to him help the injured woman bandage her wound, and then said, "How would I know? But you can bet she is."

"Let's go!" Dylan stood up, urging, "What are you waiting for? Let's go!"

"Hey, hold on!" Nathan grabbed Dylan. "Why the rush! Let me finish."

Dylan, impatient and dissatisfied, shouted, "Don't be so slow! It's not like you've never done something like this before."

Nathan squinted his eyes, a hint of anger flashing in them, but he managed to hold it back and instead said with a smile, "You, You are too impatient. Let me ask you, why do we have all this now? I used to be a temporary handyman, you were a maintenance worker. How come we're here now, getting massages from those two art school beauties who just left, not daring to make a sound even when injured?"

Dylan paused, knowing Nathan had something to say, and waved his hand to let the middle-aged woman, his relative, leave.

Nathan exclaimed, "Because we are Evolved persons!"

When the room was empty, Nathan lit a cigarette and continued,"We have power stronger than others, can kill zombies, and get Magic Crystals to spin the wheel, that's why why we have our current status. But! Do you think that's enough?"

"Of course not!" Without waiting for Dylan to answer, Nathan gave the answer first, "You know the situation at the base. We're surrounded by zombies and mutant monsters outside. The only way out is through the sewers. But who knows when the zombies might break in? What good is being Evolving people if we can't take on a thousand zombies together? We can't even handle a hundred without getting scratched!"

Dylan sat back down, lit a cigarette, and nodded in agreement. Evolved persons were only several times stronger than ordinary people and couldn't be immune to the zombie virus. One scratch, and they were dead.

"So we need to keep getting stronger!" Nathan emphasized.

Dylan asked, "You're right, but what does this have to do with Caleb's beautiful wife?"

Dylan was puzzled, his impatience growing, wanting to rush over immediately.

Nathan wasn't affected by Dylan's impatience and continued his speech, "We're both one-star Evolving people, so why can Brady and Simon become the leaders of the base while we can't?"

"They have skills, they've even have taken immunity potions, and they've got people with guns under them. They're too powerful." Dylan acknowledged.

"Yes, they have skills, very powerful ones. We are no match for them," Nathan said, closing his eyes. The smoke swirling around him made him seem unreal to Dylan.

Nathan said, analytically, "The base is always in danger. If something goes down, they have the best odds of surviving, don't you think?"

Dylan agreed, "Yeah."

Nathan continued to rationalize, "And they control the Magic Crystals we hunt for. Whenever the base finds something good, they're the first ones to get it. We're left with scraps. Isn't that right?"

Dylan couldn't deny the fact, he agreed, "That's true..."

Nathan mentioned, "On the mountain outside the base, there's this roulette guarded by zombies and monsters. It's got immunity potions and skill cards on it. You've heard about that, right? The base is gearing up to go after it."

Dylan confirmed, "I've heard. Someone saw it with their own eyes and even took a photo with their phone."

Nathan asked, "Simon has an unusual preference for older women, right?"

Dylan agreed, "Right."

Nathan explained in detail, "If we offer this woman to Simon, he will be pleased, right? Because she is so stunning. So, when the base takes over that roulette, considering this woman, even if Simon doesn't give us skill cards, he should at least give us two immunity potions, right? If we are not afraid of the zombie virus, as Evolved persons, we could rule the world! Have you thought about what we will get then?"

The more Dylan listened, the brighter his eyes became. When Nathan finished, he slapped his thigh and stood up, glowing with excitement, his mind filled with visions of invincibility.

Dylan said excitedly, "Fuck, Nathan, you read my mind. Let's do it. Let's go and capture that woman now!"
