Chapter 39 Food and Playthings

The bullet pierced through the glass, carrying a tail of flames, shooting into the dark night sky, the loud gunshot echoing between the buildings.

After the gunshot, an eerie moment of silence fell over the campus.

Then, the unique roar of the zombies suddenly erupted!

The supermarket was only a few hundred feet away, and there, thousands of zombies were gathering.

Although the non-evolved zombies were not fast in their movements, the distance was just a matter of seconds, less than a minute. In other words, the armed personnel in the building had less than a minute to escape!

Not to mention these students who wouldn't even know how to shoot a gun. Even a regular army unit would only be able to fight and retreat when faced with thousands of zombies.

That's how ordinary zombies were, seemingly fragile, but once they formed a group, even a Six-Star Evolver like William from a past life would have to avoid their sharpness.

"Fuck!"

Jason roared, aiming his gun at William, but William had already pulled Candice and retreated into the house. After a series of clattering sounds, the two smashed the window and jumped straight down.

William and Candice's departure marked the beginning of the escape for the survivors on the second floor of the armed department.

The apocalypse had been going on for almost ten hours; these people had seen too many scenes of zombies devouring humans now with the continuous approaching sounds of the zombie horde, the feeling of being in a death trap left them with no room for anything else.

Most people instinctively ran toward the stairs, and everyone knew that if they didn't get out of this building before the zombies arrived, it would be a dead end.

The corridor was narrow, and these people rushing toward the stairs inevitably got stuck together. Jason and his subordinates were caught in the middle originally they wanted to maintain their privilege and leave first, but at this moment, the fear of the zombies had already surpassed their fear, Oliver and the others just gave a student a kick, but were directly pushed aside by others, he grabbed another person wanting to fight, but the previously docile student bit directly into Oliver's arm, looking at him with red eyes, the message in his eyes was clear -don't block the way, or we'll die together.

Jason, Oliver, and the others were frightened, and they realized that if they continued with their previous attitude at this moment, these desperate students might really kill them.

The stairs were too narrow, and there were too many people; they were stuck there and couldn't move much, and the howls and roars were continuous.

Jason tried to push the people in front of him but couldn't budge them at all. He was getting anxious, knowing that if they delayed any longer, they wouldn't be able to get out.

"Oliver, Kyle, Frank! Follow me!"

The three men were sweating profusely from being squeezed when they heard their leader's shout; they immediately followed Jason, heading backward.

This direction had less resistance. As they gave up their position in front, it was immediately taken by others.

"Jump out the window!"

Jason and his subordinates started smashing the windows with their guns. When they saw it was almost done, they didn't care about the remaining glass shards. They climbed up and looked down before jumping.

There were quite a few people who chose to jump out the window with Jason and his group, and they were even faster. For example, the man with a nasal voice almost turned around and ran back as soon as he saw William shooting, escaping from the room he came in.

Then, Natalie seemed to have a knack for escaping. When chaos erupted, she directly stepped on the windowsill and jumped down, not even considering running toward the stairs. It allowed her to escape from the armed department at the first moment, and her escape direction was very clear, toward William's side.

Seeing Jason, Natalie, and others jumping out of the window, many of the students and teachers who were still stuck on the stairs realized what was happening. Those who were being squeezed at the back immediately came to the window and jumped down, a ten-foot drop posed no major obstacle for those in their twenties.

At this point, some zombies who were close had already reached the ground floor of the armed department. An unlucky student who jumped down was pounced on by a zombie that came around from the side; in screams, half of his face was bitten off, as he struggled to stand up and continue to escape, the zombie grabbed his ankle and bit off several of his toes.

The slaughter seemed to begin at that moment; the first few people who ran out of the stairs rushed out of the armed department. These were all strong young men, but as soon as they came out, they encountered two zombies head-on. These two monsters blocked most of the exit. A student tried to take a risk and go around from the side, but as soon as he took a step, and he felt someone push him from behind, losing his balance, he stumbled into the arms of the zombie.

For the zombies, who would pass up on such a feast that was delivered to them? One of them bit into the man's shoulder directly, swallowing a piece of tender flesh with warm blood. The delicious taste made the zombie excitedly howl.

Another zombie, attracted by the smell of blood, pounced on the man's back and began to feast; the young man's screams were piercing; he turned his head and saw his best friend coldly escaping through the gap the zombie had left; his fall created the best conditions for his friend to escape.

Before dying, the man shouted the most vicious curse toward the figure that was getting further away.

Another gunshot rang out, making many people shudder.

The shot was fired by a male student who ran out of the armed department. Seeing the zombies approaching, he panicked and pulled the trigger, but after the gunshot, a female student not far in front of him slowly fell to the ground, her back dyed crimson.

The shot didn't hit the zombie at all but directly hit the female student in front!

The crowd became even more chaotic because of this shot; the teachers and students who were originally running in one direction lost their target under this shot and scattered in all directions.

There were continuous screams and cries, interspersed with the excited roars of the zombies. Each sound meant the disappearance of a life.

"Follow me, follow me, everyone don't run around!"

Lucy was sweating profusely, shouting hoarsely, but at this moment, too few of her students could still hear her. Her shoulder-length hair was wet with sweat, sticking to her smooth forehead and cheek, her eyes filled with despair.

Many familiar faces fell in front of her, struggling, crying, and running away until they lost the light of life, covered in the gloom of death, but she was powerless.

A figure bumped into her; Lucy looked over, somewhat dazed, somewhat familiar; it seemed like the person called Officer Wright in the armed department just now.

"Follow me!"

A roar startled Lucy a bit; only then did she realize that she was being pulled by this female police officer toward a corner where two other people were hiding.

"Is it you?!"

Hiding behind a long bench, Lucy recognized William. After then, she suddenly pounced on him.

"It's all because of you! You bastard, they all died because of you!"

After escaping, William didn't go far with Candice but directly found this stone bench to hide behind. Candice didn't understand why they were hiding so close.

Then she saw Jason and the others running away, saw Natalie running over to this side, discovered the two people, and approached them with joy. She saw the students running away and the accidental killings, the betrayals and betrayals. This made her much less inclined to go out and save people.

Until this female teacher was futilely shouting there, not only did no one listen to her, but she also attracted a large number of zombies. Candice couldn't bear to watch anymore, so she ran over to pull the female teacher away, but who knew this woman would go crazy as soon as she came over?

How could William be pounced on by such a weak woman? He reached out, directly grabbing Lucy's slender and beautiful neck.

William uttered, "Because of me, you can survive! Do you think your cowardly colleagues and students can help you? Without me, you would become their plaything, suicide is your best option, when they can't find food, you will be their dinner!"

William pushed, and Lucy hit the stone chair. His strength wasn't great, but enough to make her lose strength for a few seconds.

He continued, "Of course, because you're beautiful, your turn to be food will be at the end, congratulations."

"You're talking nonsense!" Lucy wanted to pounce over but was pushed back onto the stone chair by Natalie again, wanting to struggle but was held down by Candice.

"He's not wrong, haven't you noticed your colleagues and students, they all ignore you, right?"

Candice looked at Lucy with a hint of sadness, "You must be very smart to be a university teacher, think about it, you should understand."

Lucy was stunned, images of the scene just now flashed in her mind. Those people didn't not hear her shouting, and they were originally coming toward her. But later, they all hurriedly left, they...

The more Lucy thought about it, the paler her face became. She finally understood that the people she wanted to rescue were not unheard of but rather made alternative judgments. She shouted to attract all the zombies so they could escape.

They abandoned her.

Lucy couldn't help it anymore, and she began to cry out in pain.

"Shut up!" William growled lowly, staring intently at a certain spot.

"I'm going there, you can choose for yourselves, whether to follow me or leave." After saying that, William bent over and ran out, leaving others stunned, looking in the direction the man had pointed.
