Chapter 137 The Beginning of a Chaotic Night
Michelle sat on the edge of the bed, looking out into the pitch-black night. The deep darkness mirrored her current mood.
She had never imagined that the person she had gone through so much to find and stay with would make such a request.
'Sleep with someone?' these words echoed in Michelle's mind.
Michelle felt as if everything she had was shattered by those words.
Caleb stood to the side, looking at his wife’s cold expression, feeling a bit regretful.
Although he came from a prominent family, he had always been the passive one in this marriage.
From the moment he first saw Michelle he was captivated by her beauty and grace. He used his family's influence to orchestrate one encounter after another, actively getting to know the people around her and launching wave after wave of advances.
Although his father was initially dissatisfied with her background, her renowned status in the National Guard and her high public profile eventually won him over, and he did not oppose the marriage.
After that, Caleb worked hard to show his best side—his knowledge, appearance, and career were all top-notch among his peers. Gradually, Michelle fell for him, first becoming his girlfriend and later his wife.
Even though she discovered some of his flaws after marriage, such as his excessive reliance on his father and his lack of composure and decisiveness, she still accepted them as the marriage was also her choice.
Caleb, somewhat intimidated by his wife who had taken many lives in her line of duty, mostly complied with her words, so she was content with her role.
What Michelle hadn't expected was that when the apocalypse came, the person who should have been her mutual support was the first to betray her.
Caleb wanted to apologize, but thinking about having the identity of an Evolving person and the Evolution Elixir he longed for, his apology turned into a plea.
"Hey babe, I know I messed up, but you see the situation outside now. If we're not Evolving persons, we'd have nothing to eat, no water to drink. In the end, we'll either starve to death or..." Caleb licked his lips, trying to find a seemingly reasonable excuse, "In the end, we'll still have to... pay something to survive. Since that's the case, why not... Mr. King seems genuine and can make me an Evolving person. I think, I think all this sacrifice is worth it."
Feeling Michelle's icy glare on him, Caleb didn't dare to meet her eyes. He lowered his head slightly, continuing, "I promise, once I become an Evolving person, I'll treat you even better. I won't... won't look down on you. I'll forget what happened today, and we'll live a good life. I'll make you an Evolving person too, and then we..."
"Look down on me?" Caleb's words were cut off by Michelle.
"Look down on me?" Michelle stood up and walked over to Caleb, who was about her height, staring directly at the face she once found handsome but now found utterly repulsive and disgusting. She repeated angrily, "Who are you to look down on me?! Who are you to look down on me, damn it!"
Michelle's voice grew louder, and by the last sentence, she was shouting.
Perhaps only by doing so could she vent her anger and humiliation.
She could tolerate her man being weak and cowardly, she could tolerate him being panicked and indecisive, she could tolerate him being lazy and even incompetent, but she could not tolerate him selling her out for his own gain.
At this moment, she felt like she had been blind. She couldn't understand why she had ever fallen for such a despicable man!
Michelle questioned in disbelief, "You want me to do such disgusting things and still have the nerve to say you won't despise me? How can you even say that?"
Furious, she let out a string of curses. She was not a delicate woman but a female cop who had wielded guns and knives and even taken lives!
There was a violent and bloody side to her character, even though she had been transferred to a desk job after marriage and hadn't killed anyone in a long time. But her background as a former enforcer of the law with a violent agency could not be hidden!
Her fury made Caleb take a few steps back, turning his head away without saying a word.
She cursed at him, "Coward! Useless trash!"
Michelle spat out words that made her feel a bit better, but the more she did, the more she felt wronged, and tears began to fall uncontrollably.
No matter how strong she was, she was still a woman who saw her man as her support.
But her husband's actions had left her heartbroken.
Turning around, Michelle grabbed her backpack and headed for the door. Caleb, panicking, reached out to stop her and asked, "Where are you going?"
Michelle stated angrily, "I'll go anywhere but here. It's better than staying by your side. You make me sick."
Caleb remarked, panicked, "You can't leave!"
Michelle said defiantly, "If I don't leave, are you going to hand me over to your buddy Mr. King? Get lost!"
Michelle twisted Caleb's wrist, easily subduing him. She wanted to hit him hard but hesitated for a second and couldn't bring herself to do it. She just pushed Caleb aside.
She only wanted to leave, to get away from this despicable man, to go anywhere.
But before she could touch the doorknob, the door opened by itself. Standing in the doorway was a 300-pound man, leering at Michelle.
Simon said mockingly, "Caleb, looks like your persuasion skills aren't working too well. I'll have to handle this myself."
Caleb's face turned pale at the sight of the man at the door, and struggled to get a complete word out, "Mr. King."
Michelle immediately understood that this was the man who wanted her. Her anger found a target, and she twisted her body, delivering a sidekick to Simon's thick neck.
If it were an ordinary person, he would be lucky to raise an arm to block the kick. Michelle, after all, was professionally trained and one of the best police officers. Her kick was perfect in speed, timing, and precision.
But the man in front of her was an Evolving person. To an Evolving person, the kick was impressive and graceful, but it lacked power and was a bit slow.
Simon casually reached out and grabbed Michelle's ankle, laughing, and said, "I like women like you!"
Michelle, with her move countered, pressed forward and aimed a punch at Simon's eye socket. Her quick reaction and smooth execution even startled Simon.
But an Evolving person was still an Evolving person. Just as Michelle's punch was about to land on his face, his neck shrank in a bizarre way, his head lowering, and he headbutted forward. Michelle's punch that was meant for his eye socket, collided with Simon's greasy forehead.
A sharp pain made Michelle cry out as her clenched hand started to go numb, losing most of its sensation in an instant.
Simon swung Michelle by her ankle, throwing her against the wall.
"Talking nicely didn't work, so if that's how it is, I'll switch things up today!" Simon's massive body squeezed through the door, staring at Michelle, who was half-lying on the ground, like a delicious steak on a plate.
Seeing this, Caleb suddenly pounced on Michelle, who was on the bed, and shouted to Simon, "Mr. King, come quickly, I've got her pinned down. Don't forget the Evolution Elixir you promised me."
Both Simon and Michelle were stunned, but their reactions were completely different. Simon burst into laughter, tears almost coming out, while Michelle also laughed, but her tears were those of a heart completely broken.
This man had reached a new level of shamelessness.
Michelle suddenly arched her body, throwing Caleb off her completely. This former police officer, who once dominated both the criminal and law enforcement worlds, with bloodshot eyes, tore open her backpack and grabbed a vial of serum.
"Is this what you want? Is this it?!" Michelle roared almost hysterically, "You sold out your own woman for this thing! Open your eyes and see if this is it!"
The sudden change left Simon and Caleb bewildered. When they saw the serum in Michelle's hand, their eyes lit up with different emotions.
Simon was more puzzled. He wondered, 'How did this useless Caleb's wife have an Evolution Elixir? And why didn't Caleb know about it? What were these two up to?'
Caleb, on the other hand, was initially overjoyed, then turned ashen.
He regretted deeply. He suddenly remembered what Michelle had said earlier today about giving him a gift. At the time, he thought it was something else and didn't pay much attention. Now he realized it was the Evolution Elixir.
But he hadn't thought in that direction at all and had instead sold out his wife for it.
Caleb was filled with regret, but he knew it was too late to fix things. His actions had completely blocked any chance of Michelle giving him the Evolution Elixir.
Thinking about how he could have gotten the coveted Evolution Elixir without any cost, now faced such a dire situation, Caleb felt a deep sense of resentment.
He stood there for a moment, then suddenly started shouting at Michelle. His face, already swollen from being hit, was now completely distorted from yelling.
Caleb yelled accusingly, "You wretched woman, why didn't you say you had the Evolution Elixir? Why didn't you say it earlier? You didn't want to give it to me, did you? Then why are you showing it now? Have you ever treated me like your husband? You used to boss me around, and now you're hiding the Evolution Elixir from me. I really misjudged you! You, you, you wretch!"
Michelle gave a bitter smile. Facing this man who twisted the truth, she had nothing more to say other than, "You're truly beyond help."
With that, she aimed the Evolution Elixir at her arm. Though her heart was broken, Michelle's mental fortitude was strong. She knew that if she didn't become an Evolving person immediately, she wouldn't escape being violated today.
Seeing Michelle about to use the Evolution Elixir, Simon wouldn't let her succeed.
When Michelle took out the Evolution Elixir, Simon realized he was incredibly lucky today. Not only could he get a beautiful, charming woman, but also a free Evolution Elixir. Such opportunities didn't come every day.
His massive body moved incredibly fast, almost instantly reaching Michelle's side. His large hand reached for the Evolution Elixir, confident that even if she tried to dodge, he could subdue her in seconds.
At that moment, a thunderous shout came from outside the window.
"Someone is spinning the Level 2 Wheel!"
The words struck Simon like a bolt of lightning from the sky, leaving him stunned.
Someone is spinning the Level 2 Wheel?!
Thoughts of a 2-star Evolution Elixir, a 2-star Evolving person, greater power, strength, danger, and control of the base flooded Simon's mind. He realized something big was happening!
Compared to rushing to the wheel, the situation here was insignificant!
Simon roared and crashed through a nearby window, landing outside and shouting continuously from his usually smiling mouth.
"Gather up! Everyone, head to Level 2 Roulette! All guards, get over there! Whoever is spinning that wheel, catch them, catch them!"
The entire base was instantly awakened by these shouts, and various sounds merged into a massive roar, echoing throughout the base.
William, on the rooftop, heard it too and cursed under his breath, knowing his luck had run out today. But he didn't move, his eyes full of determination. He wanted to use up all his spins.
If he left now, he believed he wouldn't be easily discovered. But he also knew that if he missed this chance, the base's defenses would become impenetrable, and finding another opportunity to spin the wheel would be impossible unless he controlled the base.
Using the Primary Exclusion spell repeatedly, the pointer on the wheel spun again and again. The rhythmic spinning and the light it produced made Simon and Brady, who were rushing over, anxious.
They knew a powerful figure they didn't know had arrived at the base. If this person obtained a 2-star Evolution Elixir, even if they managed to kill them, it would come at a great cost.
The wheel's sound echoed.
William's eyes lit up as he grabbed the reward box's contents—a snow-white stone.
He had finally spun out the Essence Stone.
At this moment, dense footsteps were coming from the stairs leading to the rooftop. A spotlight suddenly turned on from a nearby "wall," shining towards him. William even heard the sound of a machine gun being cocked.
But there was still one last spin left.
"Don't move!" a voice ordered,.
The first person to rush up had already raised his gun behind him, while William placed the final Magic Crystal on the wheel.
The wheel started spinning again.
