Chapter 33 New Gun
Candice immediately breathed a sigh of relief when the big dog came over to help her, turning the situation from precarious to manageable.
Instinctively, her attention shifted slightly toward William.
At that moment, Candice's heart skipped a beat.
The man was wielding a knife and engaging in a fierce battle with the large lizard that had been giving her trouble!
Candice even saw William land a punch on the lizard leader, causing it to bleed from its mouth!
William shook his hand in pain, but a smile crept onto his face.
Initially, as a One-Star Evolver, he thought it would be difficult to harm a Second-Level Blood Tongue Lizard without a white-grade weapon. However, taking advantage of a moment of negligence when the large lizard lunged at him, he landed a punch on its head, causing the second-level lizard to cough up blood!
Normally, there should be a barrier between different evolutionary levels, making it rare for such challenges to occur in the post-apocalyptic world. However, there were exceptions, such as lower-level individuals with powerful or unique professions and skills, like assassins or shadow walkers, who might have a chance to surpass their level and kill higher-level beings. Or individuals specially trained by major organizations who consumed modified evolutionary elixirs, making them inherently powerful and capable of challenging higher levels.
Apart from these cases, the gap in levels represented a gap in strength that couldn't be easily overcome.
For William, a one-time evolver, it was impossible to cause such significant damage to a Second-Level Blood Tongue Lizard with just one punch!
Yet, he managed to make the lizard cough up blood with a single punch!
William felt that something was amiss.
Recalling the scene when he killed another Second-Level Blood Tongue Lizard earlier, even with the help of Pill and a sharp white-grade machete, it seemed too effortless.
Had something happened that he was unaware of?
This thought only briefly crossed William's mind before he focused on the enemy in front of him. However, the doubt lingered in his heart.
Clearly provoked by the punch, the Blood Tongue Lizard let out a low, unsettling growl that sent shivers down the spines of both William and Candice. Even Candice, as an ordinary person, took two steps back, momentarily dazed, almost allowing the Blood Tongue Lizard she was fighting to grab her throat.
William's heart skipped a beat as he realized that the Blood Tongue Lizard had begun to evolve its second innate skill—Ultrasonic Attacks.
This was an extremely annoying and powerful ability. If fully developed, this attack could render William and Candice incapacitated for several seconds, possibly causing internal injuries.
Fortunately, these large lizards had only recently evolved to the second level; their blood tongues were still developing, and the ultrasonic attacks were not fully formed, thus minimizing the impact.
After a roar, the large lizard spat out its long tongue, and William saw a blur of red coming toward him.
If he were an intermediate swordsman, he would have been confident in slicing off the Blood Tongue Lizard's tongue with one strike. However, at that moment, all he could see was a vague red blur, illuminated by the moonlight streaming in through the large windows of the arena.
William had to dodge. In that moment of evasion, he held the knife horizontally in front of his chest, the blade facing outward.
This was an instinctual move based on the experience and instincts of his past career as an intermediate swordsman.
Despite being a mutated creature at the second level, the large lizard lacked intelligence. Its tongue attack was so powerful that it slammed against the blade with a loud thud.
The lizard let out a howl of pain, writhing on the ground in agony. When it rose again, its emerald eyes were filled with extreme anger and rage.
White weapons had a significant impact on second-level evolved beings.
The leader's injury prompted another lizard to abandon the attack on Candice and lunge toward William at an unexpected speed. At this moment, Candice and the Pill were still in place, a distance of over thirty feet away from him.
The sudden change in the situation caught William off guard, with the two Blood Tongue Lizards attacking from both sides, blocking his escape routes. At that moment, whatever countermove he could make would be too late.
Having lived through a decade in the post-apocalyptic world and faced countless life-threatening situations, William forced himself to remain calm and made a bold decision.
He swung his blade toward the leader lizard, a move that would force him to press forward with no retreat.
Indeed, if only the leader lizard had attacked him, the agile lizard would have dodged the blade's sharp edge. However, with another lizard's long tongue flying toward him from the other side, the situation was dire. If he struck down, not only would the leader lizard evade, but William wouldn't dodge the attack from the other side either.
A One-Star Evolver's body couldn't withstand a blood tongue attack. Then, the only result was William being pierced by the blood tongue while the lizards remained unscathed.
Even Candice, who had received training, closed her eyes in agony when she realized William's decision, knowing that the man was doomed.
But the outcome turned out to be as unpredictable as the sudden return of the Blood Tongue Lizard.
The leader lizard swiftly dodged the tail swipe, displaying a hint of mockery in its cold, bloodthirsty eyes as if mocking the human's overestimation of his abilities.
Meanwhile, the other lizard, suspended in mid-air, had its blood tongue inches away from William, seemingly about to pierce his body!
In a desperate situation, William reached for something dark from his waist!
The flash of fire illuminated the dim arena, causing the entire venue to tremble slightly.
In the air, a blood tongue flew, and a Blood Tongue Lizard howled as it crashed to the ground, whose mouth spewing copious amounts of blood.
A gun?
Candice was stunned as she saw what William held in his hand—A gun.
A rather peculiar gun.
Although the dark environment obscured many details of the gun, she was certain that it was unlike any she had ever seen before!
Having experienced the power of the blood tongue, she understood how tough and formidable its tongue was. Thus, she realized the immense power required to break a blood tongue with a single shot from a gun!
Yet, she didn't recognize this gun!
It was a modified or even illegally produced firearm! Possessing such a gun was a crime!
In the life-and-death moment just now, William tapped into his mental reserves, leveraging the skills of a renowned craftsman to create this peculiar gun.
Based on the police revolver he had taken from Candice and reinforced with enhancements from the wheel gun he had obtained, he had crafted this uniquely shaped gun with immense power.
After firing the gun, William was certain of the new weapon's potency.
It was equivalent to—A Desert Eagle!
