Chapter 72 The Favor of Lady Luck

William chased the Monster Baby all the way and finally saw its shadow near the lakeside plaza. At this moment, the creature had already dismounted from the Purple Cloud War Ants and was gnawing on a roasted chicken it had found somewhere.

It was truly at ease. William didn't know what kind of personality the Monster Baby had in his previous life. Since his involvement in the hunt for this thing was all peripheral, he'd never even observed Monster Baby this close.

William's gaze instinctively fell on the Monster Baby's previously injured shoulder, which was now smooth and showed no sign of a wound.

The Monster Baby suddenly turned to look at William. It bared its chicken-covered teeth and began to roar.

However, compared to the Chain Prisoner, this roar was much quieter, like the difference between a loudspeaker and a mosquito.

The Purple Cloud War Ants charged directly upon hearing the roar. It was only then that William realized that this Purple Cloud War Ant was actually an Ant General!

Typically, the Purple Cloud War Ants are first-level monsters, whether they are Blade Ants, Magic Ants, or Needle Ants. However, there are higher-level beings within this group. For example, the Ant General in front of William was a second-level monster.

According to William's knowledge, the Purple Cloud War Ants also had a Queen Ant, which was a third-level being, and the Ant Queen, which was fourth-level or even higher.

In his previous life, no human had ever seen the Queen Ant of the Purple Cloud War Ants. The level of the queen ant was purely speculative.

Unexpectedly, this Monster Baby had managed to control a second-level Ant General.

William's body tensed as his legs secretly gathered strength. When the Ant General was still a dozen feet away, he suddenly dodged to the side.

The next second, a bone needle as thick as a finger flew past the spot where he had just been standing.

"Bone needle ejection!" William said.

One of the Ant General's innate skills!

This was a very concealed long-range skill. Although the bone needle was short, it was powerful enough to penetrate a 0.4-inch-thick iron plate.

The Ant General was clearly stunned that the human had dodged its skill. Its fierce charge had been a feint to cover this sneak attack.

However, the Ant General did not sense the aura of a higher evolutionary life form from William, making it even more agitated.

The sides of its body, wider than those of ordinary Purple Cloud War Ants, suddenly sprouted two transparent wings. It leaped into the air and began gliding, moving several times faster than on the ground.

But it miscalculated again. As William dodged, he transferred the Edge of the Moon from his left hand to his barely movable right hand. He then removed his arm shield with a flick of his left arm and threw it into the air.

Just as the Purple Cloud War Ants took off, it collided with the shield and crashed to the ground as if it had intentionally aimed for the shield.

Although William was only a One-Star Evolver, he had taken improved evolution drugs and eaten the meat of the ape turtle jaw. His body strength was now more than seven times that of an ordinary person, making him far stronger than a typical One-Star Evolver.

This shield throw was no light matter. It twisted and deformed one of the Ant General's wings and broke one of its legs, causing it to roll on the ground in pain, emitting a piercing screech.

In the apocalyptic world, the basic rule was to strike when the enemy was weak. After throwing the shield, William's third move was to slide next to the Purple Cloud War Ants. He transferred the Edge of the Moon back to his left hand and swung with all his might, cutting off all the legs on one side of the Ant General.

A thick, dark green liquid flowed from the severed limbs, and the Ant General's screeches changed pitch.

William dodged again, his fourth move, avoiding a large amount of acid the Ant General spat. He swung the Edge of the Moon again, his fifth move mirroring the previous, cutting off the legs on the other side of the Ant General.

At this point, the Ant General had completely lost its ability to move and was at William's mercy.

Pulling the Edge of the Moon from the now motionless ant general's head, William casually extracted its magic crystal.

The Monster Baby had dropped the half-eaten roast chicken on the ground, staring at William in disbelief.

Suddenly, it began shouting in a language William couldn't understand, seemingly trying to convey something.

William's expression remained unchanged as he walked quickly toward the Monster Baby. He needed to cut off its head and take the golden bag.

In his previous life, this was what people did.

Seeing the murderous William approaching faster and faster, the Monster Baby screamed and ran away. However, with its short legs, it was slower than an elementary school student. After a few steps, it realized running was futile and stopped.

Then, it did something that shocked William. It grabbed the golden bag, reached inside, and pulled out an item, throwing it directly at William.

This startled William, making him think the Monster Baby had some hidden trick he didn't know about in his previous life.

Since the Monster Baby's strength was too weak, the item flew slowly. With his good eyesight, William saw it was a sheepskin scroll. Without dodging anymore, he probed his hand and grabbed the thing after a slight hesitation.

"Basic coagulation and arousal spell!" William's eyes nearly popped out!

The sheepskin scroll was a Skill Scroll! It contained a summoning skill that was very popular in the apocalyptic world!

The Monster Baby had casually thrown a skill!?

Looking at the Monster Baby, who was ready to throw another item, William suddenly felt it should be called the Goddess of Luck because only the Goddess of Luck could make him this happy.

With such good things being thrown at him, he didn't hesitate. Without even reading the instructions, William directly learned the basic coagulation and arousal spells.

His head spun, feeling like he had gained something. William had just mastered his second skill after the Basic Exclusion Spell.

William was smart, so he continued forward. The Monster Baby cooperated and threw another item. William caught it and was overjoyed to find it was a Level Promotion Scroll.

In his previous life, he had paid a high price for this item. Now, it was being thrown at him like trash! It was truly heartbreaking.

"Is there more? I want more!" At this moment, William couldn't stop himself and asked it.

The Monster Baby indeed threw another item. William caught it, and it was a One-Star Evolution Potion. It's not as good as the previous two, but it's still decent.

"More!" William said again.

The Monster Baby obediently threw another item, its eyes flashing with a cunning glint.

William reached out to catch it but instantly felt something was wrong. He dove to the side, and just as he hit the ground, the item thrown by the Monster Baby exploded, creating a deep crater!

Amid the smoke, a glowing green figure stood up from the crater!
