Chapter 242 Deal, Boss

If this middle-aged woman in front of him was really the Creator Edna from his past life, William didn't know how to treat her.

Should he kill her?

After all, to many survivors who had killed countless people, she was the embodiment of absolute evil. She not only forcibly merged humans and mutated beings into terrifying monsters but was also extremely cruel to humans. There was often news of bases being massacred by her.

In fact, among Edna's other nicknames were the Cannibal Edna and the Lunatic Edna, which showed how much she was despised.

But it couldn't be denied that she held an absolute position among the many scientific figures in the apocalypse, even ranking in the top three. William even thought that if it weren't for her terrible reputation, she would be hailed as the savior of mankind, her intellect focused on finding a cure, a solution.

David, the Father of Magic Crystal Weapons, was a master craftsman, a genius in his own right. But Edna… she was something else entirely. A force of nature.

William's finger almost pulled the trigger.

"You want to kill me?" Edna asked, looking at William with great confusion. "I can tell from your expression that you've heard my name before, but I don't recall ever meeting you. And my memory, despite what people may think, is impeccable. So, tell me, why?"

Perhaps because of her long-term contact with the dead, Edna was extremely sensitive to killing intent. As soon as William's killing intent arose, she keenly sensed it.

William was truly stumped by the question. Should he tell her about his past life, about the horrors she would unleash upon the world? About the blood that stained her hands, the lives she would take?

Suddenly, William realized that he had never actually met Edna, who dominated Maplera Country in his past life. Everything he knew about her was hearsay. So, were the things he knew necessarily true?

And even if all the legends about her were true, could that justify killing Edna, who hadn't committed any crime yet in this life?

She was stained the blood of her kind? Everyone in the apocalypse was the same. Even William had killed many of his kind by now!

"Forget it. Do as you please," Edna said, ignoring William. She looked at Jasmine's belly, took out a scalpel from somewhere, and was about to cut it open.

"Are you crazy?" William said hurriedly, pulling her away.

A demonic monster, even just born, was highly dangerous. With Edna's current combat strength as a one-star Evolving person, she might not be able to handle a newborn demonic monster. If she tried to cut out the little demonic monster, it would be suicidal; the demonic monster could pierce through her body in an instant.

"Since you want to kill me, I might as well see what the offspring of these monsters and human females look like before I die! Is it a new species or a genetic invasion, inheriting only the father's genes?" Edna said, trying to break free from William's hand to continue dissecting Jasmine's belly.

William kicked her away and walked up to Jasmine.

He saw the plea in her eyes.

"Kill... it," Jasmine mumbled.

The words were unclear and extremely weak, but William understood.

Looking at the little demonic monster wriggling in Jasmine's belly, William slowly stabbed the Edge of the Moon into it. The unborn little demonic monster twitched violently twice and died.

Jasmine smiled, but in her current state, the smile looked somewhat twisted.

Her body trembled slightly, and Jasmine's life came to its final moment. She murmured words that no one could hear clearly, her face full of relief, and then slowly lowered her head.

"What you did was meaningless and wasted a good specimen and research subject," Edna said, standing up as if she hadn't been kicked down just now. She frowned at William and said, "Your killing technique is clean and efficient, so why are you soft-hearted now?"

William wiped the blood off the Edge of the Moon and calmly said, "You'll understand later that in some special circumstances. Letting a doomed fellow suffer less pain and torment will become a consensus among all survivors."

William paused and added, "Also, I've killed many people, but that doesn't mean I kill for the sake of killing. You need to understand that."

William put away the Edge of the Moon and listened carefully. The roar of cars came from below; it should be the convoy from the manor.

"Do you want to continue your research?" William suddenly asked Edna, who had turned to another pregnant body.

"I can't think of anything in this world that interests me besides research," Edna said as she squatted in front of a female zombie, took out a long dagger from her coat, and directly stabbed it into the side of its belly. In a few quick moves, she dug out a just-formed demonic monster. She put on gloves from somewhere and started poking and prodding it, with thick, foul-smelling liquid dripping continuously from it.

William, watching from the side, felt a chill down his spine.

Edna was truly a freak!

"I can provide you with the necessary conditions, supply the specimens you need, and even provide the potions required for your evolution. How about coming to my base?" William offered.

After thinking for a moment, he decided that killing such an outstanding scientist would be a waste. He could try to guide her to do something beneficial. This way, the Creator Edna might unleash other talents instead of obsessing over creating a new species.

Most importantly, he saw the potential value in her. If used well, the help she could provide might not be less than David's.

"Recruiting a subordinate?" Edna said without looking up. She continued to study the abdominal cavity of the zombie's pregnant body, cutting and slicing with her scalpel.

William had to look away. Even with his experience, he found the scene somewhat unbearable. It wasn't that he was scared; it was just really disgusting.

"You could think of it that way," William said.

"You are adorably straightforward," Edna said, standing up and carefully placing the infant monster's body into a pocket in her coat. While taking off her gloves, she looked at William and smiled. "Actually, it's not impossible, but I really don't see any reason to follow you," she remarked.

William shrugged, waved his hand, and a vial of potion with a noticeably different color appeared in his hand. He handed it directly to Edna.

Edna looked at it for a while and opened the vial to smell it. For the first time, her eyes lit up.

"Deal, boss," she said cheerfully.
